Tennessee's mellow rapper Isaiah Rashad (last name McClain),
a founding member of Chattanooga's hip-hop collective The House with YGTUT and others,
rose to prominence with the 50-minute EP Cilvia Demo (2014) and the album
The Sun's Tirade (2016).
The latter, quite different from the EP, offers a smooth and
chilled-out
hybrid of soul, jazz, pop and rap.
The single Free Lunch and Rope // Rosegold would fit well on any classic of jazz-rap.
The seven-minute Stuck in the Mud is the emotional center of the album,
but Wats Wrong packs most of the energy (with an exhilarating feature by Kendrick Lamar).
After drug and alcohol rehabilitation, Rashad released the mellower
The House Is Burning (2021), four years in the making,
that contains From The Garden.
