Los Angeles' singer and actress
Willow Smith, the daughter of a famous Hollywood actor,
rose to prominence with the singles
Whip My Hair (2010), released when she was just ten years old, and
21st Century Girl (2011), becoming possibly Generation Z's first pop star.
She was 15 when she released her first album,
Ardipithecus (2015), containing the hit Wait a Minute as well
as Marceline,
followed by
The 1st (2017) and the slightly more artistic
mini-album Willow (2019), devoted to
ethereal soul ballads.
The single Meet Me at Our Spot (2020) was a duet with Tyler Cole credited to The Anxiety, and heralded her conversion to rock music.
Lately I Feel Everything (2021), coproduced with Tyler Cole, turned to punk-pop with the new hit Transparent Soul and a collaboration with Avril Lavigne, Grow, both backed by Travis Barker of Blink 182.
But most of the album is below mediocre.
She tries hard to impersonate the screaming punkette on
Coping Mechanism (2022), but her heart (and family background) is just not in the desperate existential depression of punk-rock, and the result is
half-based shouted songs like Maybe its my Fault.
