About the
SECAM Standard
Television Format

The SECAM format is the standard-definition television format for
a small number of countries, including France (where the system was
developed), greater Russia, and some countries in Africa. The SECAM
video format definition is 25 interlaced frames per second, 625
resolution lines per video frame.
Home video products for use in France and Russia should be in the
SECAM format to properly display both picture and sound. However,
home video products manufactured in the NTSC and PAL television
formats may image properly on SECAM television systems, as those
disc players often have built-in cross-format compatibility.
SECAM standard-definition television format was phased out from
broadcast and home video usage circa 2011-2019 in favor of the PAL
format. As with other standard television formats, SECAM has been
phased out for the generally universal AVCHD high-definition format.
