This DVD-R edition has been mastered from a good to very-good 16mm reduction print. The source print is rough but holds a reasonable greyscale range throughout; highlights hold image detail and shadows are relatively open. Dust, speckling, schmutz, and other print flaws are there. Occasionally, “Grapevine Video” will appear in the lower right-hand corner of intertitles to discourage video pirates. We wish it weren’t necessary.
The film is presented with a virtual theatre organ music score by composed and performed by David Knudtson.
For now, this is our recommended home video edition of the film.
