This DVD-R edition has likely mastered from a fair to good 16mm reduction print, with a significant amount of dust, speckling, schmutz, vertical scratches, exposure fluctuations, and other print flaws. While the print is not ideal, the viewing experience is OK with only occasional print distractions. There has to be better surviving print material on this title and the film is certainly good enough to be successfully released on Blu-ray Disc.
The film is accompanied by a virtual theatre pipe organ music score composed and performed by David Knudtson. We certainly appreciate Knudtson’s work on this and other Grapevine releases — if only to save us from those awful vintage music compilation soundtracks that are on older Grapevine titles.
For now, this is our recommmended home video edition of the film.
