This DVD-R edition, alternately presented as The Spring of Yugoslavia, has been mastered from an older analog video transfer of a fair 16mm reduction print. The resulting picture is distractingly blurry. Dust, speckling, emulsion scuffing, and other print flaws are present, along with more than a few videotape glitches. The poorly translated English subtitles are an unintended hoot and are nearly worthless to help viewers follow the story. Curiously, the disc’s main menu music has been lifted from the soundtrack of It’s a Wonderful Life (1946).
The film is presented silent, with no musical accompaniment at all.
For now, this is our recommended home video edition of the film. North American collectors will need a region-free PAL DVD player capable of outputting an NTSC-compatible signal to view this edition.
