Favorite Quotes by Martin Luther King Jr.

Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think.

Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.

A nation or civilization that continues to produce soft-minded men purchases its own spiritual death on the installment plan.

History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.

I am not interested in power for power's sake, but I'm interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

The time is always right to do what is right.

The means by which we live have outdistanced the ends for which we live. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.

Life's most urgent question is: what are you doing for others?

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Forgiveness: The Ultimate Gift

My dear family, friends, and those who might wander into this blog:

As I wrote my previous blog, I was overwhelmed with how living for today and overcoming the trials and learning experiences in our lives effects us all in our daily lives. I have been pondering on it and realized that one of the biggest ways to come through difficult times is to have faith in our Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ. However, as we live our lives and try to wade through days and moments with all the faith we can muster...I know that we need more as we encounter the not-so-pleasant moments.

I know that I'm not perfect and that I make mistakes daily. I know that I, like many, search after peace that will be a balm to the soul. I know that all find themselves in situations that hurt has come over them and engulfed them in pain, bitterness, or/and hardness of heart. If we let the pain that we receive from others, or even cause them to experience, remain in us; it begins to fester and eat away at our soul. A small grudge here and there can begin to mount into a state of mind and being...until we are filled with loathing for the ones that have hurt us... we literaly let that sin fester in our heart.

I'm not trying to preach to all...I just want to share with you something that helped me lift the heavy weights off of my heart and mind. I felt blessed as I was able to watch this short video of President Faust as he talked about forgiveness. Many of you will remember the conference that he addressed us with this topic. I ask you to please take the 6+ minutes to watch it.

Cry with him.
Ponder his words.
Begin anew.
Forgive as He has forgiven us.
