Kid isms/update

After looking at the candy, Jacob said, "Bradlee, I have red hoots too!" We call them red hots! Sarah figured out the whole trick or treating thing pretty quick - "I want trick or treat!" Jacob is teaching himself about 6 hymns right now, just by ear. Yes, we're getting him lessons. He wrote a book at school ( they write little books every day) called Space. It went something like this, "The planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto. My daddy is building something to go to Mars." He tried to convince us to ask the Bishop to have him (Jacob) talk in church. Jacob was disappointed that that isn't the way it works - the Bishop asks you! Jacob is constantly organizing football games in our backyard and basketball games in the basement with neighborhood kids. They play tackle football - it's hilarious.
One pair of pjs all day is no longer enough for Bradlee. He frequently goes to bed with 3 or 4 pairs of pajama pants on. He says, "If you wear 6 or 7 pairs of underwear, then you're a superhero!" After I caught him mixing lotion and baby wash and smearing it all over the bathroom wall, I asked him why he did it. He said, "I like to do what you don't say." At least he's honest. Bradlee has found at least 3 caterpillars this year, and his preschool was collecting them so we took them there. The last one he found, he said, "Don't tell Ms. Martin (his teacher) I found this! I'm gonna keep it!" He loves pet bugs. Guess he gets that interesting character trait from his Gma Sonna. Bradlee loves preschool while he's there, but he absolutely hates getting there. He fights us and complains all the way there. He and Brandon were at the door to go into preschool and Bradlee said, " I don't want to go in - it's too fun in there." It's hard to argue with that! He also "nursed" his stuffed animal for about 15 minutes the other day.
Sarah loves to climb in Samuel's crib now. Great. She says very good prayers and insists on praying for Pres. Monson by name. She went potty in the potty once last week, but we're not necessarily training her yet. She just talks all the time, has her own strong opinions about things, and loves her baby brother so much. She'll come over and wipe his face when he pukes. She's a great big sister.
Brandon got called to the High Council last Sunday. It might end up being less time than the Stake Young Men's, but it will all be compacted on Sunday, so that's a good thing. He loves his job and really enjoys the great people he works with. I am totally changing. I once was very anal about my housework, but now the dishes don't get done until 2pm the next day and the laundry rarely gets all folded and put away before I have to start washing again. You know, I'd just rather hold my sweet baby and play outside with my kids with my newfound energy and health. We're happy and very blessed and glad to give back in the ways we can.

our living room

Here's some before and after shots of the living room. We're getting closer with the bathroom, then move on to overhead lights. Our woodstove insert into the fireplace arrives on the 11th. I stacked 1/2 a cord of wood with a little help from Jacob. Sure feels good to have my body back!

Kids

They love each other (a lot of the time!).

Some Samuel

Samuel is the sweetest baby ever. It's not just that he hardly cries, he hardly makes any noise at all. He will coo at Brandon, but that's about it. He is such a good boy - sleeping through the night, lets Sarah wash his hair with wet wipes, etc. We really treat him like a first baby in alot of ways. And here's proof of his beautiful blue eyes!

Halloween

We were Little Red Riding Hood characters, plus a pumpkin and the Cat in the Hat.

Grandpa Tave and Grandma Barb

We enjoyed Dad and Barb's visit. The kids especially liked reading with their grandparents (Where the Wild Things Are was a big hit, as it always has been!). Sorry abou the red eye! Sarah especially will be your best friend if you read to her. If you sit down, she assumes it's because you want to read to her, so she brings you a book, backs up to you and demands, "Read you!" until you give in!

Samuel's blessing

Brandon blessed Samuel earlier this month. It was a beautiful blessing involving loving his current and future family and preaching the gospel in distant lands and having a love for the scriptures. Sounds like he will grow up to be just like his wonderful dad!

Busy kids!

These kids are all over the place! Jacob is on a climbing wall at a birthday party.

First day of school!

Bradlee started preschool and Jacob started first grade. The bus comes right to our door! Jacob likes writing books about his life at school. He ran almost 2 miles in PE the other day! Bradlee is enjoying meeting new friends in his class.

Finally, some Samuel pictures!

Introducing Samuel Loren Smith!

Samuel Loren Smith was born on Monday, July 27th at 8:02am (about 20 minutes after we arrived at the hospital!). He weighed a whopping 9 lbs. 4 oz and was 21 inches long. He looks like baby Bradlee. I'm hopeful his eyes will stay blue! The kids fight over holding him and Bradlee and Sarah both like to take his pacifier ("button" according to Sarah) out and put it back in repeatedly. Sarah loves to give Samuel hugs and kisses and thinks it's fun to try to ride him during his tummy time. Bradlee just loves him and had a hard time letting others hold him in the hospital. Now, if you just tell Bradlee that Samuel has pooped or puked, he'll hand him over right away! Bradlee shook Samuel's hand when he met him the first time. Jacob is a great helper with Samuel and around the house when he's in the mood. Samuel is just a big dude. He was 10lbs. 1 0z. at 2 1/2 weeks, which is incidentally when he ROLLED OVER the first time! He's rolled over THREE TIMES! He's not just big, he's buff! He is a sweet baby and we love him a whole lot!
