me without jenna

My friend Jenna left for Europe on Sunday. She hopped across the ocean to do business with the Brits and the Germans. Yeah, she's cool like that. Check out her company's site: pangea organics.

Buy the product and experience the joy of watching your soap box grow into a basil plant. (Seriously.)

This is what I look like when I think about Jenna being oh so far away:

songs i loved in 2007

Last month, I created my annual "favorites of the year" mix.

Here's what was on it (click on the title to hear these songs on iTunes):

Better Than Love -- Griffin House
Cinder and Smoke -- Iron & Wine
Satisfied Mind -- Jeff Buckley
Wake Me Up -- Norah Jones
River Song -- Reed Foehl
3 A.M. -- Gregory Alan Isakov
Look at Miss Ohio -- Gillian Welch
Your Rocky Spine -- Great Lake Swimmers
Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -- Chris Thile (White Stripes cover)
My Doorbell -- The White Stripes
Cocaine Habit -- Old Crow Medicine Show
Getting Ready -- Patty Griffin
These Girls -- Ryan Adams
San Jose -- Joe Purdy
Born -- Over the Rhine
The Dark -- Ben Kyle (of Romantica) & Ryan Adams
Swept Away (Sentimental Version) -- The Avett Brothers
Gold -- from the Once soundtrack

** Please note that these are simply songs that I loved in 2007; they were not necessarily recorded in 2007 . . . but most of them were. :)

Also, while we're on the topic of my favorite songs/artists . . .

I found this photo strip tonight. Pictured here is my good friend, Gregory Alan Isakov (see above) and me. I should mention that I believe I may have been slightly intoxicated in these photos. I don't usually look like this -- at least, I hope not. But I do think this is hilarious.

hello, 2008

So far, the new year has been fantastic, despite spending most of it coughing and sniffling.

I welcomed the new year with a few old friends and a lot of new ones at a random party just outside of Boulder. About 80% of the people in attendance were from the great state of Ohio, so though I didn't know them, I felt a special kinship with them, as they randomly shouted "O-H-I-O" in unison throughout the night.

New Year's Day was spent lying around, eating pork chops and sauerkraut (for good luck) and watching football.

This weekend I attempted to recover from my cold by relaxing and hanging out with some friends.

And today was surprisingly productive. I finally took down the Christmas decorations, said goodbye to our sad little tree, and attempted to make chili. In honor of Ohio (particularly Cincy), I added cinnamon and chocolate, and in honor of my friend Rusty who thinks everything should have beer in it, I added approximately 8 ounces of New Belgium's 1554 -- the "englightened black ale." And, of course, I made a gigantic batch of buckeyes for tomorrow night's big game. Go bucks!

I'm still trying to determine my goals for 2008, but I think it will involve saving more money and figuring out what it is that I would actually like to do with my life.

We'll see! Looking forward to finding out where 2008 will take me!
