A Change of Perception...

Over the past few months I have seen a dramatic change in my perception of escalators...yes escalators :) Let me explain.

When I was a little kid I used to be terrified of getting on the escalators; I didn't think that I would be able to step on fast enough and I was afraid that I would fall all the way down. I remember being relieved to be standing on the step holding on tight to the rail.
As I got older escalators became less and less scary and soon were something I didn't even think of doing. Now I ride at least 8 escalators a day going in and out of the metro station. However, escalators are no longer a thing that you leisurely ride down or up to the next level, and here is where my biggest perception change has occurred.

Rush hour in Washington DC is just that...rush hour; millions of people going to and fro some hurrying along while others slowly move about as if there is no care in the world. As you can imagine it gets pretty frustrating when those "sauntering" individuals block the escalator and you miss your metro train. So it is common practice that if you are going to stand on the escalator you better be on the right side or you are going to either get a nasty comment or get shoved aside.
Sadly, I have become one of those impatient people that get extremely irritated when people stand on the left side (they are usually tourists, no one else would dare do such a thing) haha and I have also started to perceive those that do stand on the escalators (the right side) to be either lazy or over-weight. I am not proud of this new perception, but I thought it was extremely interesting how my perception has changed over time. I probably need to be like those people that enjoy the ride up and down the escalators, who slow down and take in the world around them.

Morgan and I were at the mall the other day and when we got to the escalator I immediately started running down it, however the same unspoken standard of standing to the left doesn't apply in the mall but I got irritated anyway that eveyone was standing on the left side. Morgan gentley reminded me that the escalators in the rest of the world were meant to stand on. :)
So my goal is to not judge those people that are standing on the escalator no matter the length of it, who knows they may have knee problems, they may have a bad headache or they may simply be enjoying the ride up the escalator before they enter the busy world.

**please note any of you coming to DC for a visit, please remember to stand to the right :)

The Beach...again

This weekend we went to Pony Beach again! This time we brought 3 other couples and made it a party!! The weather was beautiful with a nice breeze and large waves for good boogie boarding. We set up "camp" and play all day. Here are some pictures of the day-

I can't believe how good this picture turned out. This is Morgan riding a wave in; if you look closely the water is incredibly detailed!

My very attractive husband posing for an awesome beach shot :)

Some of us made this turtle out of sand; this is crazy Rory trying to pose like a turtle- you just need a big shell on your back Ror and you will look just like a turtle!

There were tons of jelly fish washing up onto shore. At first we were really nervous about them then we saw some little kids gathering them up and throwing them around and figured they weren't hurting them :) I think they were dead because all of their tentacles were gone.

We brought some beach games and they were a big hit as you can tell by Morgan in the picture below :)

We played lots of volleyball...

...and had lots of fun on the beach!

At the end of the day we went to the Assateaque Island Lighthouse.

We are so grateful to have some awesome friends here. It makes life away from family much more bearable and fun!
Thanks Jacksons, Jensens, and Blinns for coming to the beach with us!!

Pluralization

This topic recently came up in a conversation with our friends- how would Cox be pluralized?

I usually put "The Cox's" on my main picture on the blog and Morgan said I couldn't put an apostrophe because there was no ownership in "The Cox's". If you put Coxes, that just looks funny or Coxs' doesn't work either. Our friends finally said the best way to write it would be 'The Coxen'.

So we would like to solicit your help in this matter; respond to this post and let us know how you think our name should be pluralized :)

1. Cox's
2. Coxs'
3. Coxes
4. Coxen

Pony Beach

Last weekend we went to Pony Beach with the Jacksons. Chincoteague Island (Pony Beach) is a state park on the eastern coast of Maryland. They really have wild ponies run along the beach! It was a beautiful day with the wind coming off of the ocean and we hung out on the beach all day reading, talking and boogie boarding. The waves were great and the water was nice and cool.

Hanging out on the beach- Morgan eating a starburst :)

Because we were too cheap to buy a nice beach umbrella, we took our regular umbrellas and duck taped them to broom handles. The people sitting next to us were laughing out loud! Yes, you may see us someday on a "best redneck beach umbrella" picture- Hey it worked though!

Morgan being super cool with his hat backwards! He looked like a teenage boy :)

Mandi and I boogie boarding! Although the waves aren't very big, its still a lot of fun; this was our first time trying it out and both Morgan and I loved it!

We plan on going to Pony Beach again in a couple of weeks and this time we are going to camp on the beach! I am SOO excited! Stay tuned for that exciting post...
