Nice postmark on cover from Canoe, Canada

 

Canoe, British Columbia, is a semi-rural community in British Columbia within the larger City of Salmon Arm. The Secwepemc peoples were known to use the mouth of Canoe Creek as a site to launch dugout canoes for travel around Shuswap Lake. The town at Canoe was established in the late 1800s, as the Canadian Pacific Railway was being completed and British Columbia joined confederation with Canada. The Canoe post office opened in 1909, and Canoe has been marked on official maps since at least 1915.

I received this fine registered Serbian cover in March 2022. There's whole Art 2018 mini sheet on cover and also one charity tax stamp. Serbian post decided to celebrate births of famous writers from Serbia and Russia: 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev, 175th Anniversary of the Birth of Kosta Trifković, 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Maksim Gorky, 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Aleksa Šantić, 125th Anniversary of the Birth of Miloš Crnjanski and 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

30 years since winning European Champions Cup on cover from Serbia

 

BC “Partizan” won the European Champions Cup in 1992, with Aleksandar Đorđević scoring three points in the last second of the game against Juventud from Badalona. This April, three decades after the greatest success of Serbian club basketball, the best coach of Europe, Željko Obradović, returned to the position of coach of BC “Partizan”, who already conquer Europe in his first season on the Partizan bench. In addition to that success in European competitions, BC “Partizan” won the Radivoje Korać Cup three times (1978, 1979 and 1989) and participated in the final four of the Euroleague.

In the sports calendar of all Partizan fans, 16 April 1992 is a very important, if not the most important date - the day when the Basketball Club “Partizan” conquered Europe. Everyone who has black and white in their hearts with the deepest emotions remembers the match against Juventud and the famous three points of Đorđević, thus engraving the name of our club in eternity. The team that then reached the “roof of Europe” was led by coach Željko Obradović. And now, 30 years later, the black and white crew is again led by Obradović - the most trophy-winning coach in Europe and the pride of the Partizan family.

Unusual blank canvas stamps on cover from Switzerland

 

What is Swiss Post trying to tell us with this special stamp – which is undoubtedly the right name for it? The answer to the puzzle is as striking as it is obvious. Canvas is the classic backcloth for paintings and, as such, has come to symbolize art in general. Because it’s blank, it represents art not yet created – perhaps due to a lack of funding. Swiss Post has been promoting and collecting contemporary art since 1924. The collection that it has put together comprises around 400 works and a nationwide portfolio of art in architecture pieces. In 2020, a new art strategy was devised. The new commitment to art is based on three spheres: the art collection, art in architecture and a partnership with art events in the periphery. Swiss Post plays a pioneering role when it comes to corporate art collections and promoting culture in Switzerland – and that’s exactly what the new special stamp set aims to raise awareness of.

Two delayed postcards from Malaysia!

 

I received two postcards from Malaysia sent by random senders from Postcard United. It's astonishing how much time these two cards have traveled thanks to many obstacles caused by COVID-19.

If you look at the dates on these postcards, you can see they've been sent in May and June 2020 - year and a half ago! Also both senders are writing about COVID-19, so these cards truly reflects this awful worldwide pandemic.

Cover from The British Indian Ocean Territory!

 

This cover is one best surprises in my mailbox this year, sent by my dear friend Wolfgang from Austria. BIOT is a British Overseas Territory of the UK situated in the Indian Ocean halfway between Tanzania and Indonesia, with total land area of just 60 square kilometres. The largest and most southerly island is Diego Garcia, 27 km2, the site of a Joint Military Facility of the UK and the USA.

The only inhabitants are British and U.S. military personnel and associated contractors, who collectively number around 3,000. The forced removal of Chagossians from the Chagos Archipelago occurred between 1968 and 1973. Today, the exiled Chagossians are still trying to return, saying that the forced expulsion and dispossession was unlawful, but the UK government has repeatedly denied them the right of return.

Since the 1980s, the Government of Mauritius has sought to regain control over the Chagos Archipelago. A February 2019 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice called for the islands to be given to Mauritius. Since this, the United Nations General Assembly and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea have reached similar decisions. 

The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a UN agency in charge of the world's postal policies, voted to block the use of UK stamps from the remote archipelago. All post from the Chagos Islands must now bear stamps from Mauritius, so i was lucky to receive this cover, cause this maybe not possible anymore in the future. 

 On this cover you can see stamp with beautiful reef manta ray and very clear blue postmark from post office in Diego Garcia, and big black postmark of BIOT post office with BIOT coat of arms.
