In the next 30 days

In the next thirty days...my first baby will turn three. Three?!? And my new baby will be eight months old. 8 months?!?

How did this happen? I can't believe the rate at which time is passing.

Life with my kids just keeps getting better and better.

Corth Carolina

We took a vacation to Carolina Beach, North Carolina. It was awesome. We rented a condo for a week that was right on the beach. The goal was to take it easy and enjoy being together as a family. I'm happy to report it was a success!

Here are some pictures of the trip.

We started off bright and early. A big thanks to Doug for taking us to the airport at 5:30am!

Our flight from Detroit to Raleigh was delayed due to mechanical problems, so they put the whole flight on a different plane.

Carter got to ride on a plane, train and bus all in the same day. He was pretty excited!

He couldn't wait to get to the beach...but couldn't keep his eyes open with the flash. (This was the best picture I got)

The view from our condo. Happy Mother's Day to me! We saw dolphins playing in the water. It was so cool!

We went out to dinner at this little Thai place on Monday. Best fried rice ever. An anonymous person paid for our meal. That's never happened to me before. I couldn't believe it.

Tuesday we went to the aquarium and Carter loved it! We got to get really close to an infant sea turtle and I got to touch a shark!

We went to the beach almost everyday. Katelyn would sit on a towel and Carter would play in the sand. Shawn and I took turns playing in the water. I didn't take too many picture at the beach because I didn't want my phone to get sandy.

This was the sunset from the other balcony looking over the river side.

Love these two kids so much!

We went to Kure Beach Pier. This pelican was so close I could have touched it. We got to watch people fish off the pier. The guy next to us caught a little shark and showed it to Carter before he threw it back.

We went to eat at this tasty Italian place called Freddy's. It was some of the best food I've had in a long time. Too bad our kids were being awful and we didn't get to enjoy it.

Friday was our last day so we spent the day at the beach and then went to the boardwalk. Everyone said to get Britts Donuts. They were soooo good. I think I had seven that night.

We let Carter pick a ride...he chose the carousel, and then he picked the sleigh. He definitely likes things nice and easy.

We have him a dollar to spend in the arcade and he spent it all on this one car racing game. I was pressing the gas pedal while he steered. It was hilarious. He had so much fun he started to cry when I made him leave the arcade.

And just like that we were home. It was fun and relaxing and we survived flying and going on vacation with two kids. I'm so glad we went.

Every couple of days Carter asks if we can go back to "corth carolina". I think that means he had a good time :)

Something I've been reading online...

I read a few blogs...standard girly blogs. Mommy blogs. People I relate to and care about. Heh. However lately I have been reading this blog...

http://www.davidhilfiker.blogspot.com/?m=1

He is a doctor diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He has chosen to document the journey from the inside out. To help bring awareness and understanding to the disease. It is crazy fascinating to me. He is still in the early stages, so you can't really tell there is anything wrong (besides  stories he mentions). I think it will be interesting to see how it progresses. Even if it takes years...

Something someone told you about yourself that you'll never forget.

It was my freshman year of college. I was sitting on the floor of my apartment. My good friend Travis was over. I was in sweat pants, and I was pretty sure I looked awful. Then out of the blue Travis said that I looked cute and I'm sure I argued that I didn't. And then he said what I'll never forget...

"When you think you look cute, you don't."

(He continued something like this...) When you don't think you look cute that's when you are the cutest.

It made absolutely no sense to me. How was I supposed to know when I was actually looking cute? If I thought I looked ugly I was actually cute-- or if I thought I looked cute I didn't look it to others?

I think that's when I stopped caring. I didn't care a whole lot before, but after that comment...I just was who I was.

Years later I still find this to be true (even if it still doesn't make sense to me)...when I'm not trying, that's when I look the best.

Political Rant

I originally wrote this on 2/29/12...and never published it. It fits today's challenge, and I'm not feeling fiery about anything else. So here you go...

I don't usually get involved in political debates. I just don't care that much. I'm not up to date on all the goings on. And I don't take sides. I don't think either party really knows what they want. I'm all for a "let the best person win" mentality. Anyway. That being said, Man, the Facebook political comments drive me nuts sometimes! Like right now that stupid picture at the gas pump, about gas prices being high. All of these people are complaining about gas being high. And how they think Obama should change it. Really?? Coming from republicans who are supposedly against government involvement? Honestly, I think of at least half a dozen things I think are more important than the price of gas that I would prefer our government be focusing on and fixing. Seriously, if you are really that bothered about how much gas costs-stop driving your car!

I like the comforts of having my car way more than I care about paying for gas. So I will continue to drive my car. And I accept that oil is a limited resource so the cost is probably going to go up. And I can deal with it, without crying about it.

Sorry. I just had to vent that...some where. People have unrealistic political/government expectations.

Ten things that make me really happy

In no particular order...

1. Seeing my little lady smile
2. Snuggling with my "big" boy
3. Getting one on one time with Shawn
4. Waking up and seeing the ocean
5. SLEEP
6. The anonymous person who paid for our meal last night at the restaurant. Whoever you are--Thank you!
7. Practicing yoga
8. Donuts
9. Laying outside soaking up the warm sunshine
10. The gospel of Jesus Christ

Day 13, Monday: Issue a public apology.

I'm sorry. I really don't feel like doing this one.
