Nothing lasts forever

Lens-Artists Challenge #420: You pick it- Wabi Sabi

Wabi-Sabi centres on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. To embrace Wabi Sabi requires the ability to reflect on the fact that change is the only constant, nothing lasts forever, and perfection is unattainable.
Looking at the impermanence, imperfection and incompletion and the beauty it can bring

Although Wabi-sabi can be hard to define, we can translate its simplified meaning to rustic simplicity or understated elegance with a focus on a less-is-more mentality, while taking pleasure in the imperfect.

In Zen philosophy, there are seven aesthetic principles in achieving Wabi-sabi:

Kanso — simplicity

Fukinsei — asymmetry or irregularity

Shibumi — beauty in the understated

Shizen — naturalness without pretension

Yugen — subtle grace

Datsuzoku — freeness

Seijaku — tranquility

Last on the Card – October 2026

Last Photo for October 2026

Your last photo doesn’t have to be on the very last day of the month if you didn’t take any photos on that day. Maybe it was earlier in the month when the last photo was taken.

So let’s see what you have for October

The rules are simple:
1. Post the last photo on your SD card or last photo on your phone for the 31st or whenever your last photo was taken.
2. No editing – who cares if it is out of focus, not framed as you would like or the subject matter didn’t cooperate.
3. You don’t have to have any explanations, just the photo will do
4. Create a Pingback to this post or link in the comments
5. Use the tags The Last Photo and #LastOnTheCard

Here’s mine. Last months photos were from my place. The rain meant not many photos taken and of course it’s spring
