This year I had two children that attended the prom this year. Laurel was asked by a senior. She's really lucky to go when she is a junior in high school. And of course, Jake went because it was his senior year. He took his girlfriend Sarah. He waited until only 3 days before prom to get a tuxedo; which meant there were not very many left, and they didn't have any time to size him and make sure it was custom fitted. Oh well, the coat wasn't too big on him (just a little).
I made chicken manicotti dinner for Jake and Sarah for their "prom dinner". Afterwards I took photos of them; which was a good thing, because by the time Jake and Sarah got to the dance, the photographer was already packing up. So these photos of them came from my picture taking.
Laurel was busy all day getting herself ready, painting nails, etc. She and her friend Angie went to a beauty salon to get their hair done, then rushed off to Angie's house to get dressed and then the boys came and picked them up. So I didn't get to see Laurel all done up for her first prom. I'm glad they had photos taken. She looks so beautiful with her hair done up in ringlets. What a magical and fun night Jake and Laurel had. They were quite relieved that the dancing at Prom was not inappropriate either, like some high schools. What a fun night it was for us all.
Sarah was invited to a birthday party. This wasn't just any ordinary birthday party. It was a Horseback riding party! All day long, Sarah kept asking me, "Is it time to go yet?" She was so excited. I brought Hannah along with us. The hosts were so nice. They let Hannah ride as well. My girls had so much fun riding the beautiful horses and pony.
So this May we had two very important birthdays. Jake is now officially an adult, according to the government. He's still my little boy, though. He turned the big 18! I can't believe that I have an 18-year old. I still remember when he was little holding my hand and telling me, "Mommy, when I grow up, I'm going to marry you." Since then, he's changed a lot, but still my fun, hilarious AND good-looking son.
But what is even more surprising than having an 18-year old son is I can't believe that I turned the big 40!! What's up with that? I still feel young. Too bad Byron wasn't here to help us both celebrate the big birthdays. So on Jake's birthday, we had to take a photo of us both to remember our big landmarks in the history of the Humble family.
I wake up quite often to seeing wildlife in our yard. Lately, since it's been springtime, the baby fawns and their mother deers have been coming over and grazing on our grass. I woke up early one morning to exercise, when I spotted this cute little fawn and it's mother. I get to see them often. There is another set of family, a mother and two little fawns, that come by occasionally too. Aren't they adorable?
One time the kids called me to the kitchen sliding glass door. It was night time. They said, "Look Mom! There are cute little racoons looking in." Sure enough, on our back patio, there were about 2 or 3 racoons with their little faces pressed up to the sliding glass window. They looked so cute. I knew it was because they smelled dinner cooking. It was too dark to take any photos, but I knew that if I didn't scare them, they would become a problem. So I had to scare them away.
I love my kids. They are so sweet. They worked hard to make Mother's Day special for me, especially since Byron was not here. Laurel bought me flowers, since that is what Byron usually does. She wanted to make sure that I had a bouquet of flowers. Sarah made me some bath salts from her kindergarten class, Hannah made a card and gave me a potted flower she planted by seed. Clayton made my day special by helping me out in the house and giving me a nice card. And Jake wrote me a very touching and beautiful letter. It was a good day. :)
Laurel performed in front of her whole school on talent show night. It was a big turnout. She sang a song and played her guitar. We're so proud of her!
This last May, Sarah turned 6 this year. She was so happy to have her birthday. She told me, "Now make sure you bring cupcakes to my class, okay? And I also want balloons and cake too." She was so worried I'd forget about bringing the cupcakes to her kindergarten class. Of course, mommy didn't forget.
Okay... So I have been really lame these last few months (well, since Christmas) in posting anything new. My life is super busy and we have had a lot going on. For starters, soon after Christmas, we were told that Byron would have to deploy to Iraq. We were given hardly any notice and he was suppose to leave in a month. This news came as a big shock for us, as we were planning on separating from the military this year and didn't think we would have to deploy ever again.
Well, as the month approached, they changed his orders to go to Afghanistan. As the next deployment date came closer, they changed the date he was suppose to leave again! To make a long story short, we were in limbo for a while, but full of anxiety.
So now it has been almost two months, since Byron deployed to Afghanistan. There have been some rough and crazy days without him. One week I had to go to the hospital 4 times ... strep throat, pnemonia, injured finger, x-rays, etc. We are doing great though. Byron is doing well too.
I'm trying to get together all of our photos ready to post soon. So stay tuned ...
I love life, especially my hubby and kids. They are the greatest! We've lived and traveled all over and feel blessed to have so many good friends. We love and miss you all!
My top fave's are playing with my kids, going on excursions with Byron, digital scrapbooking, taking photos, and genealogy.
