Tropicana Speech

There are millions of bad feelings and objects in the world, like evil wizards and fire breathing dragons. And not liking being short is one of them. Speed gets you out of trouble and leaves terrifying monsters behind. And when there's a chaotic lady with a pan, stealth will lend you the key to escape. Meny people will underestimate the skill of the short. Use this to your advantage. Therefore, being small can be useful.
To begin with, the speed of short people can bewilder enemies. Speed may not help you slay the mighty sea beast, but it will alow you to escape from any horrifying foe. While stranded on an island with a man-eating boar, speed would hand you the necissary survival skills. On field day the sprints are bing. Bang. Boom. In any event speed is awesome.
Also in the package deal of being short is stealth. I know none of us like to hear other people talk on boring subjects, but stealth allows you to listen to other subjects that aren’t meant for the public. Think of the headlines “ 11 Year Old Boy Uncovers Most Wanted Spy!” Before you break into the super spy’s lair you have to get through the guards. Now don’t fret. Sneak through the shadows and the sentries will be a breeze.
Do you get chased by a bully or angry turtle? Stealth combined with  a sprinkle of knowledge and you can turn  a corner or jump through  a window. Poof! There goes the turtle. As can be seen (or not seen), stealth certainly is an admirable trait of short people.
And third, first apperances are everything. It could make you a target or a small object on the side. Never judge an opponent . The largest dragon could lack the confindence to eat you, while a mouse could kill you with a bite. It also helps in sports; stealing the ball from an unexpecting opponent in soccer and stealing the bases in baseball. If teachers or powerful wizard assume you’re a mi? or nuisance, they might aim more focus on another person while you work your mischief. Thus the battle can be won at first glance.

The rest

of Cole's poetry

I’d rather be…

I’d rather be a tree than a rose bush
I’d rather be a cactus than tumbleweed
I’d rather be a tulip than a shrub

I’d rather be a tiger than a lion
I’d rather be a deer than an ostrich
I’d rather be a lizard than a clownfish

I’d rather be broccoli than pizza
I’d rather be brusselsprouts than ice cream
I’d rather be spinach than a marshmallow

I’d rather be a motorcycle than a beetle
I’d rather be a jeep than a minivan
I’d rather be a pickup truck than a limo

I’d rather be soccer than football
I’d rather be chess than checkers
I’d rather be basketball than volleyball

I’d rather be Frodo than Pooh
I’d rather be Skullduggery than jack and Annie
I’d rather be fantasy than nonfiction

I’d rather be the Eiffel Tower than the mall
I’d rather be home than McDonald’s
I’d rather be earth than mars

I’d rather be an author than a substitute teacher
I’d rather be artist than the president
I’d rather be an inventor than a chef

end of poem,
I asked Cole about the ones where he'd rather be brussell sprouts instead of ice cream and broccoli instead of pizza and he said, because I'd be safe from people wanting to eat me; clearly! :)

What if

When I’m bored
I start to think
When it happens
My brain gets a kink

My thoughts are halted
By an old grizzly bear
And worries cover me while I’m there

What if my glasses break next period?
What if lice inhabit my hair?
What if zombies break down the door?
What if we move?

What is there is a black hole?
What if I lose my wallet?
What if terrorists attack?
What if a dinosaur bites my head off?

What if I fall off a cliff?
What if my parents are vampires?
What if our house floats out to sea?

Then the bear trods along
And my brain continues
The same old song

Pets

My cat Spot
Black sleek feline
Loveable family member

Melting into the shadows
Sprawled across half the couch
A white spot under his chin
The size of an egg

He sees me as a
A slave
The royal feeder
One who opens the door

He knows I will always
Stroke his head

Both stick to shadows
Both have short hair but
His is dark and mine is light
Both are terribly lazy

He isn’t afraid of heights
I can’t stand them
Both are intelligent
Both enjoy my blanket

Both are curious
Fast at times
I can accept defeat
He can’t stand to lose

Both like to be the
“thing” in the dark
Not the frightened hero

I have allergies
He sneezes rarely
I get bored easily
But he escapes it with sleep

He likes to stalk birds
I prefer a good book

Never forget what
You have look
For the small
Things in life

Things are never a burden
Only a present to unfold
Respect anything
Old or young
Big or small

Cole has an assignment to write ten poems...here are a couple he's done so far.

The first assignment was to be about a letter in the alphabet..

U a hidden valley
U a horseshoe on a horse’s foot
U a dead end
U a depression
U a bottomless pit
U a set of sharp teeth
U a rough horseshoe

Uranus – a cold blue
Underneath – as dark as the deepest cave
Universe – every color imagined

Undying ghosts drift through streets
Unicorns gallop through mist
Undertrodden beast savage alleyways
Useless guards slip into unconciousness
Unnecessary quests undertaken ended

then about seasons..

The Seasons
Winter is a ferocious dog
Frozen teeth driving into every inch of skin
While snow flurries blind your eyes

The snowflakes target you
Your teeth chatter uncontrollably
Your destination camouflaged on the horizon
Sentries on the fort huddle around a miniature fire
Two birds together in a nearby tree
You sense a fox

A pair of bunnies asleep in their cramped hole
The sentries continually bicker about the storm
The birds look at the sky thinking of flight
Bunnies dream of carrots
The fox waiting for the storm to end

Fall, shadows flicker on the wall
A chill in the air combined with the last rays of summer
Animals make the last preparation for winter
Trees transform
Brilliant oranges and yellows
Happy children’s laughter rings through the air

A silent breeze plays through large trunks
The small squirrel ruffles through fallen leaves
For remaining acorns
The last rays shine upon the small village
Children dive into piles of leaves
Until their mothers call them for supper

The fathers in the field working till dark
The mothers in the kitchen cooking dinner
The farm hand feeding pigs
And the pigs gouging themselves

The fathers and mothers
Husbands and wives
All thinking of their successful harvest
The farm hand wondering if he’ll get a warm supper
And the pigs lying down to sleep

Summer Sweat seeping down my brow
An occasion roar of a car
then a deadly silence fills the air
Even In the comforting shade of the porch
I can feel the intense rays of the sun

Everyone is gone
The town is deserted
No one is here
The half empty bottle by my side
I lay there limp
Sprawled across a plastic chair
The shadow of a hawk streaks through the sky
Mosquito seeking blood hover around me
My cat glides among the shadows

The hawk dives onto its prey
Hoards of mosquitoes slowly meet their fate
My cat explores the neighborhood

Spring the soft cry of newborn babes
The flap of butterfly’s wing
The quiet hum of the forest
Blossoming flowers with vibrant colors
A miniature waterfall

Mothers watch their child’s first steps
Butterflies glide through the air
Assortment of colors
Animals find the cool refreshing stream

Mother bluebird bringing her young family lunch
A young fawn and its mother lie camouflaged
cubs playfully roll along their mother close behind
Chicks chirping
Their stomachs empty

This is my favorite. It's not complete and he may make changes
 :)

Brothers and Sisters

We both have freckles
Her hair is long and red while
Mine is short and brown
She is shy while I
Will talk

She likes swimming
I hate the water
I like fantasy and fighting
While she prefers the dollhouse

I like my characters short and stealthy
But hers is tall and graceful
Playing on the computer
Building legos

Learning how to play xbox
Getting frantic every fight
Seeking direction from me
And every battle is a big victory

Comparing miniature buildings
To house little peoples

Setting the table
Who chooses where people sit
Keeping the best cups to ourselves

We are ghosts to each other
Until chores are done
Then it’s game time

That’s when we’re stuck together
Brick and cement

I like the ways she’s quiet
And shy out and about
But bouncing off the walls at home

She like my persistence and
Me never giving up
She likes me trying to get her
To do the right thing

I don’t like how she is so picky
She doesn’t like me not sharing
She doesn’t like how I
Put my feet on her chair at dinner

She’ll move north but we’ll
Constantly be on the phone
We won’t miss any family reunions

Cole's Poem book

Cole had to make a poem book for school, above is his cover sheet the bottom right corner is the funniest to me., "Dear Cole, We like you. From: The World".

Here are some of the poems he wrote *spelling corrections made*.

Humans

Intelligent, dangerous

Destroying, polluting, bullying

Kind and really handsome

Mammal

*************************
(love the picture for this one, but it didn't scan well)

Peaceful rivers are

The sound echos off mountains

Fish leap out at you

**************************

(all the empty space on the page is penciled in for this one)

Black is my friend

Black is the cousin of night

Black is the color that decorates my painting

Balck is the color of my cloak

Black smells like secrets waiting to be told

Black tastes like chocolate waiting to be eaten

Black sounds like a mute button

Black looks like a dark small corner

Black feels like soft silk

Black makes me invisible

Black is the cat waiting to pounce

**********************************

Winter is gray

It tastes cold and hard

It sounds like a leaf blowing in the wind

It smells like smoke from a warm fire

It looks like a glistening world of ice

It makes me feel cold and free.

**********************************

I'm full

of things you

use. You can't

live without me.

Please don't

pollute me.

************************************

(with a red creature on the left page)

This creature is a Kracken

He lives on the coast of Cash

near the carribean castle

He eats crazy cats, the Kellian

and croaking Kung fu men

The Kracken likes coconut trees

cakes and cranky krates

The Kracken crashed Cole's cool camero

He kicked my cocoa cactus

off the cliff

Cole will title this later :) 1/26/11

These have been grammatically corrected by his editor, as much as his editor can grammatically correct.

One foggy afternoon at the elementary school I noticed the door that's always locked is ajar! "Oh no" I thought to myself. "I must close the door before anything escapes!"

All of the teachers were in a meeting! I searched frantically to find an adult. I aprinted into the cafeteria, dashed into the kitchen. I stumbled upon Mr. Willy. Out of breath, I quickly explained the problem. We ran from the cafeteria to the door. We were suprised to see a 25 foot python slithering it's way to freedom. "Great", I said "just great".

Suddenly, the slimy reptile spied us. It slowly slithered towards us, crushing anything in it's path. Two unlucky students who happened to be walking near the scene took the python's eyes off of us for a moment. Me and Mr. Willy knew it was our chance. We ran like madmen to the nearest door which just happened to be the office. We sprinted behind the desk. Just moments later the python slithers in. It seemed a littl fatter. "Poor kids", I thought.

While the python was searching the cabinets I shouted "Now" and me and Mr. Willy leaped over the desk into the doorway. We rushed into the cafeteria with the python at our heels. It demolished the door as if it was paper. "We're doomed" me and Mr. Willy shouted in unison.

We zig-zagged out of the cafeteria and hid behind the corner. The unlukcy Mrs. Ricahrdson's class, who was on the playground, was devoured by the huge reptile. All except David who went screaming like a little toddler across the playground and was never the same again. It bulldozed through the hallway and everyone who was pounced (?) in it's path joined Mrs. Richardson's class. It charged the gates and overthrew the dumpster. It was last seen heading down in the keys on a boat going to Africa.

"Whew, that was close." I murmered. I sprinted to the door. I held the key tightly. I slowly crept forward afraid something was about to jump out and gobble me up, but nothing did. As fast as lightning I slammed the door shut, shoved the key in the hole and turned it. Now nobody dares open the door, afraid of what will happen.

My future millionaire lifestyle

will be provided by my son's future NY bestselling books. I am aware that this is total mama talk, but I'm okay with that and I may think they're better than they actually are, but I doubt it. :). So even if it's just the grandmas of the young lad. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have .
