$5

Scored this little shopping cart off a list that I belong to for $5!

Ben likes to just push the basket around! It's like 2 toys in 1!

shake your money maker

Ben loves to turn the clock/radio on in our bedroom and dance. We play musical chairs and musical pillows daily!

Here is a short video of the boys dancing. I have no idea what radio station the radio is on, so don't hold me accountable for their taste in music! (and don't look at how messy our room is!)

Mackenzie's 1st birthday

My cousin's little girl, Mackenzie, turned 1 this past week and we traveled to Charlotte to celebrate with her on Saturday.

She had a Blue's Clues themed party considering it is her favorite show!

Here's the birthday girl and her smash cake... It took her a little while and with a little help from mom and dad, but she finally had her taste of sugar!
Ben and one of Mackenzie's little friends...
Owen and his party hat. you know it's not a party unless you have party hats!
We gave Mackenzie a little kitchen... It tickled me that she was already playing with it!

Could these two look any cuter in their matching outfits?!!!!!

Happy birthday sweet girl!

Curious George Live!

February 16, 2010

One of the many perks of Danny working for the TV station is getting comp tickets to events. We have a harder time getting tickets for things we would like, but we have been VERY lucky to get tickets for shows and events the kids would like.

A few weeks ago, I saw a commercial for Curious George Live and asked Danny if we could get tickets. This was actually his account, so he contacted his rep and she sent him 4 front row tickets. We were dead center and couldn't be any closer unless we sat on the stage.

(At the end of the show they had confetti and streamers that blasted into the air and covered the floor. Owen was excited to get out of his seat and chase them!)

Owen and Ben seemed to really enjoy the show. They both clapped and waved and were on their best behavior! And since the tickets were free, we found a place on the street to park (free), we popped our own popcorn from home (free), we managed to avoid leaving with a $5 balloon or $15 spinning thing, all we spent was a few dollars on a pretzel and drink for Danny and I to share.

These two

are nothing alike!
  • Owen loves to read books, Ben likes to eat books
  • Owen eats fruits and veggies and hates meat, Ben will only eat a few fruits and hardly any veggies, but could eat an entire chicken
  • Owen is easy and is always where you left him, Ben, if left unattended, can be found on top of a table or hanging from a light fixture
  • Owen has brown hair, Ben has blond
  • Owen is more academic, Ben is more athletic
  • Owen loves to cuddle, Ben hardly sits still
  • Owen is more gentle, Ben is more aggressive
  • Owen is more cautious (I might get hurt if I do ____.), Ben is more curious (It'll be fun if I do___. Who cares if I get hurt.)
  • Although both boys are sensitive, I would have to say Owen is a little more so than Ben.
  • So... While Owen has his head in the book and is getting picked on in school, I will be able to count on Ben to stand up for him and take out the bully!
I see similarities in their looks and I think you can tell they are brothers, but I really don't think they look anything alike.
There really are so many more differences, especially if you compare them month by month from birth! It's so much fun to watch and observe them in their element! they definitely keep us on our toes and I can honestly say, NO ONE is an expert on children after just having one or even two; every child is different!

19 months 6 days

Ben went this morning for a much needed hair cut and he had a well check this afternoon.

He's sleeping now (thank goodness), so I'll have to get a picture of him and his new do when he wakes up.

At his well check, he...

weighed- 24 lbs 1.5 oz (25 %)

height- 32 1/2 inches (50%)

head- 49 1/2 cm (75-90%)
I am really surprised about his weight percentage since he seems like a little chunk compared to Owen!
Tomorrow night we're taking them the boys to see Curious George Live. They are going to be so excited! One of Danny's clients gave us tickets for Section B Row A. We think that may be front row, but we're not sure. I might actually be as excited as them!

He said...

Like most kids, Owen LOVES getting mail! Usually for the holidays you can count on the grandparents to send cards and sometimes a little money. The past few days, Owen and Ben have both recieved valentines from mom and Chip and Danny's parents.

When I come in from checking the mail and hand Owen anything for him, he starts singing, "We just got a letter, we just got a letter, we just got a letter, wonder who it's from?"

Now, along with the song, he say's, "Is this for my piggy?"

He likes to count the money. "One, two, three, four, five...FIVE tickets!" And then go feed his piggy.

Lucky little boys!!!

Now, It looks like I'll need to teach him that his mail will not always include food for his piggy

It's about time!

We finally devoted the time and energy to potty training Owen. It was time for him and for us! We have also started looking at preschools and it was necessary for him to be out of diapers before this fall. I really thought it might take us until August, but after we broke out the potty chair we were off to a good start!

We started with naked training, because he treated his underpants as a diaper and would just go in them. After a few days of that, we were able to leave him in underpants and he would let us know if "it was getting closer." I still put a diaper on him for naps and bedtime, but he's waking up dry, which is GREAT!!!! We've even had a few outings with no accidents, yay!!!!! I am a little cautious and will put a diaper over his underpants if he can't go before we leave the house. He has done really well with telling us when we are out if he needs to go and he's ok with the big potty.

Funny thing is, Ben is lifting the lid on the potty chairs and sitting on them. Hopefully this is a sign that he will train much earlier than Owen who is 3 yrs 3months.

Owen placed his little hands together and said...

"I wish for gardens, and snow, and summer, and hot, hot summer days, and babies; babies are cute and snuggly. I wish, I wish for night night. I wish for pillow and sheets. I wish and wish for stars and moons."

Me too Owen, me too! (well, all but the snow part...I wish, I wish it would go away!)

And can I brag a bit? Owen is on day three of potty training success!!!I gave up trying to get him to go on the big potty and the padded seat we bought and broke out a hand-me-down potty chair with no deflector shield. He LOVES it! I just keep it on those foam play mats and hope for no accidents. I need to find a deflector shield for it somewhere!

Thank you!

Just a quick note to say thank you for all your kind comments and e-mails and for all of you who have been thinking about us. I also want to thank so many of you for sharing your stories of having gone through the same thing; I had no idea so many women I know have also miscarried. My doctor told me it would help to talk about it and it really has helped me heal. So, thank you for listening and for sharing!

I am doing a lot better this week. Physically I feel better than I have in a months and emotionally I am crying much less. It really helps that I have two beautiful, smart, funny and healthy little boys and a husband who has been so supportive and who is giving me the time I need to get through this.

Here are a few pictures from the past few days...
