Fun in the Kitchen

We had a fantastic visit last week with Drew's mom, and just realized that somehow we managed not to take a single picture. Such is life when you're busy! She cooked up a storm and we miss her already. Cadence was looking at a picture on the blog of him and his Nana from the summer and said, "Nana."

Here are a few pictures that Drew has taken over the past bit now that I'm back to work & things are getting back to normal.

Pots & pans.

Practising spoon eating today at lunch: putting the macaroni onto the spoon...

And then getting it into his mouth. Hoorah!

Playing with magnets at the fridge.

Reading bedtime stories with me a few nights ago.

He's now walking around with the blue hippo and yesterday we tried out the sitting part. He knew enough to move his feet a bit but didn't go far. Much more fun walking. Works for me!

Is he kissing the oven, or kissing himself??

Our last vacation!

Our last week of vacation for the summer was at a camp nearby with friends; it was a great chance to relax and enjoy Cadence, and for others to enjoy him too.

I think they both want the ball...who will get it first?

Friends sitting by the lake, just enjoying. The best thing about a vacation like that was that the kids would take care of the baby so we could, well, sit. For a while at least.

We found a second ball--so Cadence and Tofu could each have one. Here we were actually helping Drew practice his swing at the ball diamond. Tofu was playing outfield.

Our good friend Pauline with Cadence, giving Drew and I a chance to sit & eat dinner with the adults before I whisked him off to bed (Cadence, that is) :)

Drew and Cadence having a nice afternoon snack.

FredFest!!

An entire year has now gone by since the big move, and life is good. We commemorated the anniversary by attending the annual Freds Northern Picnic. Meredith came up to join us, which was fantastic--Cadence adores his Auntie Mer. It was Cadence's first time in a tent, and while the first night was successful we packed it in around 10pm on Saturday. He was wrangy (I think it's more to do with the transition from two naps to one that led to an over-tired yet awake baby more than it was the tent), and there was an abundance of yahoos camping nearby that would have kept us up anyways. Turned out to be a night of thunderstorms anyways, so it all worked out for the best.

Drew and Cadence sitting back & watching some of the Sunday afternoon music. This was really (how did this happen?) the only band that we actually sat & listened to, despite being there the whole weekend. Life with a wee one. :)

Fun times with Auntie Mer. Did I mention that he adores her?

Also fun times with the watermelon, which he adores almost (but not quite) as much as his Auntie Mer.

My mom & Mike came by on Saturday afternoon for a visit; of course we took a family picture at the campsite.

And Meredith delivered the rocking horse that Nana bought for Cadence. He's a bit small for it, but doesn't let that stop him--big smiles all round.

And yes, there's Amanda behind the drums (Drew's drums, actually!) waiting for our set to get started. My first music festival!

Summer summer summer!

Summer continues and the weather's been fantastic. Not much new going on...As I write this I'm watcching a very mad/disappointed hummingbird at our empty feeder outside...I took it down because I learned that they can be quite bad for transmitting disease between hummingbirds and it's better to plant flowers that provide nectar to them instead, but the feeder's sitting empty on the bench and the bird is just buzzing around, trying again and again to get something out of nothing. Poor thing.

Anyway--keeping busy, working away, etc. Next weekend is the music festival which we're looking forward to, and if it's nice we'll camp out. The following week will be the last of our vacation as we spend some time with friends at a nearby camp. In the meantime, here are some recent pictures of Cadence.

Last week my stepsiter Corrine came up for a week's visit...we only saw them briefly one evening for dinner. Here is Cadence with his cousins Pete & Emma as they all pose for some pictures.

Figured out how to open the china cabinet door. Hm.

I keep on planting him at the piano, hoping that it'll just imprint itself on him. We've definitely put together some pretty good duets, and they get better every day.
