Last Night in Scotland

Goodbye Scotland, we will miss your bonny land and welcoming people. I can hardly believe we are heading back across the pond for a final time and heading back to Houston, Texas tomorrow. It has been a great experience living in Aberdeen, Scotland for four and a half years. Our boys have lived the majority of their lives here, and it will always remain a special place to us all. I have loved the expat experience. I feel blessed to have had this experience and been able to stay at home with my two boys during their early years.

I’m not sure what the future holds, but I am so excited to find out what God has planned for us. It will be like Christmas getting off the plane to see our parents, visit our new house, and have a big SUV waiting for us. The past few weeks have flown by in such a blur. I can hardly remember our going away party two weekends ago. We have crammed in so much in our last two weeks. There have been so many school activities, field trips, sports days, and we made a trip to the West coast. I am so thankful to have Stephen, so calm and helpful, during this stressful time. He handled everything with the house, cars, and the move. I felt a bit stressed with Stephen traveling, the packing, kids, and just all the last minute stuff. So much stuff! I am looking at our eight suitcases in our hotel room now. I can’t wait to get settled in and somewhat organized.

I will miss this simple way of life and the memories of our boys growing up. I enjoyed all those rainy days in with the boys. I feel like we have grown so much as a family in Scotland. We didn’t have our immediate family to lean on, but we found great friends and neighbors. The community became our family. The beauty of the countryside and a little sun would easily lift our spirits. I will even miss the cold when I am in the heat of Houston.

So many memories, but I am also ready for the next chapter. I am excited for whatever the future brings!!!! I see sunshine in the forecast.

Beautiful Walks, Packing, Farewell Lunches and Picnics

Things are coming together!  The movers came and packed us up this week.  The new hardwood floors in our new house were completed.  We have finally been blessed with beautiful sunny and hot weather to prepare ourselves for our future in Houston.  Stephen is selling his car as we speak.  It is bittersweet having nice weather, great lunches with friends, golf lessons, workouts, and a wonderful school to leave behind.  It has been a great experience and I am looking forward to enjoying our last three weeks before we start a new chapter in our lives back in Houston.  I will definitely miss the expat way of life.  I love living in this wonderful bubble where there isn't too much to worry about besides figuring out what to do on a cold day.

Sunday, May 20th, we decided we needed to get out of the house on such a beautiful sunny day.  We drove around and found the Forvie National Nature Reserve.  We took a four mile walk with wonderful views.  It was so peaceful to be in nature and hike around the rivers, sand dunes, and North Sea.  What a refreshing break before the packers arrived the next day.

The boys enjoying a walk by the North Sea.
 The Forvie ruins.

Monday, May 21st, and Tuesday, May 22nd, the packers get all our stuff ready for the container.

Bye bye toys and accessories!  We filled the entire twenty foot container with all our stuff.

The boys will miss the nice play park behind our house.

The back of our house.

The best part about packing up is playing with the boxes.  I think the boys prefer boxes over toys.

A fabulous Friday fun lunch at the Marcliffe with ISA moms.  It seemed like a record high with a temperature of almost 80 degrees Fahrenheit in Aberdeen.  Lunch outside with sunny nice weather was a treat!

The ISA farewell picnic.  Brantley's friend, Nathan, is moving to Houston too.

The boys will miss their school.  The International School has been fantastic.  I have really seen both the boys grow and mature at this school.

Happy Mother's Day

We want to thank our Moms for being wonderful loving Moms, Grandmas, and Nanas!

We are blessed to have you in our lives.  As I'm learning, it is not always easy being a mom.  We  appreciate your continued love, support, and encouragement.  Stephen and I are so proud and thankful for you both!  We are looking forward to having a proper Mother's Day celebration when we arrive back home in Houston.

Our babies are growing up so fast, and we can't wait to spend more time with you!

As a Mom, it isn't always easy making everyone happy.  One is happy and one is sad.
One is silly and one is perplexed.
It's a Mom's job to correct and encourage.
And that is for a simple not so picture perfect photo.  It's amazing we actually made it to church on time for this Mother's Day.

All I have to say is that Mum's Rule and so do Grandma's and Nana's!

We love you very very much!

Love,
Christi, Stephen, Brantley & Brady
