Ode to the frustrating weight loss cycle

Funny moment from my week. But first, here is the background:
My students love the song, "The Cat Came Back". We sing it most often along with a CD of children's songs performed by Fred Penner (he is great, if you haven't heard any of his stuff). The song is about a cat who keeps returning, no matter what they do, such as putting him in a sleigh to the North Pole, a spaceship, and a time machine. The end of the song is a version of "Hit the Road, Jack" which is, of course, "Hit the Road, Cat!"

Every morning, our "helper" gets to choose a song to sing out of our song cup, and this particular day, the helper read the song as "The FAT came back". I began to laugh, along with the students who "got it" and a few who probably laughed just because other people were laughing. I realized that the lyrics, unfortunately, are very appropriate for many of us who have struggled our whole lives to feel "thin" like the world tells us we should be. So here is my version of the chorus of "The Cat Came Back", with only a couple of words substituted, along with my own original verse appropriate to the change.

There once was a woman who had enough of fat.
No carbs or sweets passed her lips and she bought a yoga mat.
She tried and she tried to get that fat away
She joined a gym and Nutrisystem, hundreds of dollars she would pay....
But....

"The FAT came back, the very next day
The FAT came back, she thought he was a goner
But the FAT came back, he just wouldn't stay away!"

Hit the road, FAT, and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more
Hit the road, FAT, and don't you come back no more!

Cruel Nature

OK, so I live in Utah and much as I hate it, you have to expect snow in March, even April.... and sometimes the beginning of May. But come on - a blizzard and 3 inches of snow on May 24???!!! I couldn't believe it as I drove to school in a snowstorm. And wouldn't you know it, I have "traffic duty" this week - standing outside in the stuff for 15 minutes before school with just my light jacket on tops my list of things I would really rather not do during the last week of school.

The Best Moment in my VERY Long Week

I have decided that nothing beats dragging your exhausted body home at 10 pm and opening your front door to excited exclamations from two cute little boys who then run to you in their footie pajamas worn with tennis shoes, throw their arms around you, and give you a kiss. It's nice to be appreciated.
These are the boys, but no, I did not get an actual action shot of the pj's worn with shoes. I'm sure you can imagine.

Why aren't you married yet?

As I was looking for a humorous story to use in my relief society lesson tomorrow, I came across one of "those e-mails" that was being sent around awhile back. I don't know if I'll ever actually use one of these comments, but I would secretly love to. Here are my favorites:

Comebacks to the question "Why aren't you married yet?"
1. Because I love hearing this question.
2. Just lucky, I guess.
3. It gives my mother something to pray for.
4. I don't want to have to support someone else on my paycheck.
5. I'm still hoping for a shot at Miss America.
6. Do you know how expensive it is to buy two tickets to a broadway play?!
7. It didn't seem worth a blood test.
8. I already have enough laundry to do, thank you.
9. Because I think it would take all the spontaneity out of dating.
10. I'd have to forfeit my billion dollar trust fund.
11. I wouldn't want my parents to drop dead from sheer happiness (or surprise).
12. I guess it just goes to prove that you can't trust those voodoo doll rituals.

...And here are some of my own invention:
13. What?! Darn, I knew I forgot to put something on my "List of Life Accomplishments".
14. I'm looking for a single man who could support me financially. Do you know one?
15. Men are intimidated by my ninja skills.
16. I'm waiting for Taylor Lautner to grow up.
17. I'm waiting until my options are narrowed down to the bare minimum to make the choice easier.
18. I heard that "40 is the new 30" so I thought I'd test it out to see if it's true.
19. I haven't found anyone who's gotten along with all my personalities.
20. Because I enjoy going on first dates.
