Christmas Morning

I forgot to share a cute little story. Christmas morning, we didn't set alarms, we figured Maci would wake us around 8 am like she has for months now. Nope, her internal alarm clock was turned off for the holiday I guess! Anyway, Ash was still asleep too. So we went to go get him up together (that is Jeff, Maci and I). Jeff said, "Ashton, Grandma said Santa Claus came last night!" Ashton's response. "Nawwwwoooooo!" His scream was hilarious! He has been pointing out pictures, figurines, etc of Santa every where, but is truly not a fan of the idea of him being a human! It gave us a good laugh!

The picture is from the Ward primary activity.

First Baby Doll

For Christmas, I asked for a baby doll for Maci. My mom found the perfect one, it is mostly soft and little for my little girl. She LOVES it! She spends a lot of time with it, examining it, and dangles her from the foot. I'm excited for this next phase where my little girl plays with dolls!

Christmas Festivities

Christmas Eve and dinner was spent with the Hale family.

Maci playing the piano. She loved it!

Christmas morning. Grandma helping with the stocking.

Ash is a huge fan of Luigi!

Grandma Hale made Maci this cute hat with matching shoes!

Grandma Hale made her children and grandchildren slippers.
We are huge fans, they are soooo warm!

We had a wonderful holiday filled with lots of family and fun. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Tree

This little tree my mom got as her white elephant at work. The kids LOVE it! Especially Maci! She could be screaming and you turn it on and she is happy and dancing!

Christmas Party

Listening to everyone sing Christmas carols

Opening white elephant gifts

Maci was so intrigued by all the pretty packages!

Ashton, Jex and Madison had so much fun together. They ran around just going berserk!

pre dinner conversations

Every year my grandma Tobler would do a 'Adult' Christmas dinner. Before you knew it everyone was an adult! So it turned back into everyone, especially now that families have grown bigger that we don't necessarily get together on Christmas anymore. It's been a fun tradition which always includes a white elephant.

I just love this time of year!

Ashton turns 3!

Ashton turned 3 last Friday! We had a little gathering with family and then cake. It was a lot of fun, and ash got several toys! He's been playing with all of them! He has been tempted since to open presents that are under the tree, but we've kept an eye on him!

The Death of an Alarm Clock

Last night upon going to bed, we discovered the savage murder of our alarm clock. We can't figure out when, but we discovered the cause of the untimely death. It had been brutally sprayed repeatedly by a bottle of Febreeze. We didn't think it smelled bad at all, let alone deserved such a gruesome and slow death. The screen had liquid behind it and was hardly legible, and none of the buttons worked. We unplugged it. It said it was low on back up battery power, and the lights went off. However the final screams of its horrible death weren't heard until this morning, when the alarm sounded. None of the buttons would work, and it was already unplugged, so to end its misery and ours, the only way to get it to stop, was to slam it hard on the floor. (Note we live in the basement, so under the carpet was solid cement) We figured it was quicker that way, however our first attempt at silencing the woeful cries by pulling out the batteries was unsuccessful because they too were sticky and wet with that overwhelming scent of Febreeze. May it rest in peace. It was a wonderful alarm clock, with multiple abilities, sounds and even a compact disc player. Unfortunately the morning period cannot last long, as we need an alarm clock better than a cell phone, so we must purchase one this weekend. It is preceded in death by the VCR, DVD player, ipod shuffle*, and laptop (we have dealt with a lot of digital and technological death this year). Survived by the iMac, new dvd player, camera and television.

*please note that the ipod shuffle is the only one that wasn't murdered by the toddler or baby, it simply met its demise due to old age and lots of love

When Elmo Grows Up!

For Ashton's birthday an uncle and some aunts went in on a birthday gift for Ashton to go to 'When Elmo Grows Up' at the E center on Saturday! He had a blast! He wasn't screaming out loud like other little kids, but he was saying wow and telling us that they were singing songs. He clapped and marched and stomped his feet when they asked us too, and just loved it. Right now I think Abby Caddabby is his favorite. He clicks on her games and videos when he goes to seasamestreet.org. It was a fun experience! Thanks Griffin, Beth, Lisa and Emily!

Maci was watching pretty intently the whole first half she clapped and screamed she was happy. After the intermission, she was more interested in the people behind us. We brought her little snacks, and that kept her quite and happy.

Maci's Teeth

Maci has 6 teeth, and two more that may cut through anytime now!!! She is just so excited to eat steak! She has four on top, which are the four front teeth, and two on teh bottom, which are the two front teeth as well. Ash's came in all over the place, but Maci is going about it in a neat and orderly fashion! As for the others coming in, one is next to the top four on her right side, and the other is on the bottom next to the other two also on the right side. Crazy. Well, she just has a goofy smile with all these teeth, and I hadn't gotten any good pics, so I just sat and took pictures of her while tickling her. So that's the reason for the goofy faces too! I love this little girl!!!

Maci's Stats

Maci had her well child check up today, and last Wednesday met with the Gastroenterologist to determine how we should go about her diet. (more in a second)

Her stats are:
19 lbs 49% and 27" 24%

Her growth has slowed (which is to be expected once they get so mobile), her length she grew less than a third of an inch in the last 3 months. Whenever we took Ash for his well child visits, the Dr always asked how tall Jeff is. And today for the first time relating to Maci, "How tall is her father??" She is right where she should be, and is getting smarter every day. She loves standing and walking with her walker. She's a great babbler and gets so 'slap happy' now at night when she's tired. If she puts something in her mouth, and I take it out, she does NOT like this, throws a fit right away. Silly girl.

As far as things with the GI, we're trying to decide if she should be on a gluten free diet or not. Just the side effects of having undiagnosed Celiac disease (while eating gluten) are scary. Well, we have no answer as to what to do. Her primary sent us to the specialist and the GI didn't want to tell us which way to go at all. Left it completely up to us, was no help, and I know I knew more than he did about Celiac at this visit. Going through the medical history, telling him I have it, my mother has it, he later educated me like I had never heard of the disease before. Then he started telling me how hard it is to go on a GF diet and I wouldn't want to inflict that on my daughter, and where I can go to get GF foods if I do. Grrrrr. Never will see this Dr again. So, Jeff and I haven't decided what we're going to do. Maybe do like we did with Ash, and have her GF until one.

Grandma's Lights

Cutest thing ever. All Christmas lights (on the houses, trees, garlands) Ashton says "Wow, Grandma's Lights!" me, "no, they're Chri-st-mas lights, because it's Christmas time." Ash: "No, they're grandma's lights!"

Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't really have the best pictures, but it was a wonderful day. We had a wonderful dinner with all the traditional fixings, and because we had dinner with the Tobler's I had GF gravy, stuffing, rolls and pumpkin pie! They all turned out great! Yummy!
We got Maci some dinner, and she dove into it before Jeff had a chance to feed her! She's been loving the mashed potato left overs and turkey!

Maci is 9months!

Maci turned 9 months on Wednesday! Such a big girl! I don't have her 'stats' because her appointment isn't until December 7th. Maci has 6 teeth, she is kind of starting to clap. Started 'dancing' this week to music (mainly to all the various cell phone ring tones between her parents, aunt and grandparents), she loves to play with whatever Ashton is playing with, Ash can make her laugh easier than anyone else. She smiles all the time. She is fast! She crawls quickly, and those hands are fast too! She lost interest for a couple of weeks in baby food, but is eating it again, but loves turkey, Trix, bananas, mashed potatoes, applesauce, graham crackers and much more. She is a sweetheart. We love her so much!

Lately

Can't find the battery charger for the camera, so still don't have my video proof of Maci walking and climbing the stairs.

Well most everyone knows, unless your not on Facebook, but my Dad auditioned this past summer and fall for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and MADE IT!!!! He joins the 'training' choir in January for 16 weeks and then starts singing with the choir in May! We're all so proud and excited! He will be in the Bass section and will only be apart of the choir for 5 years (you can only be in the choir through age 60).

Upon the continued Grief with my brother Rob and his wife Jill and their loss, we have found joy in my older brother Kenny and his wife Natalie are expecting in July/August! This will be their 4th child, but with a solid 3 year gap between their last baby.

And last but not least, JEFF GOT A JOB! Wahoo! He started this past Monday. He is working at Future Vision Technology. He works on scanning medical documents. It will be steady, he wasn't hired through a temp agency and they like their employees to stick around for a long time. We excited about this. He continues to plan to paint in the evenings and Saturdays to further his Art career.

Movie Reviews

Todays Features: Star Trek, New Moon

Star Trek was just as great as everyone said. You didn't have to know tons about it to understand it or like it. This is what I new before hand, the characters James Kirk, Spock and they were played way back when by William Shatner and Leonard Nemoy, I knew they could teleport, and the name of the ship- Enterprise (if you came up and asked me what the name was, i wouldn't be sure, but if you gave me a multiple choice I would have gotten it). Anywho, the action was fun, the conflict between Kirk and Spock, Everyone highly recommends it, and so do I.

New Moon-SPOILER ALERT--(of course, but not so much)
I was very pleased first off. From what you see from the commercials and such, it looked like the story was going to be different. For example, the clip where Bella is running and says 'Jacob don't" from the commercials you got that it was going to be Laurant that she was talking about, and it wasn't. I thought it stayed very close to the book, and New Moon isn't my favorite anyway, so it was just right. I want to sit and read Eclipse tonight!

Days and Clouds Movie Review

Upon reading the back of the DVD the description was not very enticing. I wasn't wanting to see a movie about a couple under going financial difficulty and that break up.
"Well-to-do, sophisticated couple Elsa and Michele have a 20 year-old daughter and enough money for Elsa to leave her job and fulfill an old dream of studying art history. After she graduates, however, their lives change. Michele confesses he hasn't worked in tow moths, having been fired by the company he founded years ago. Elsa overcomes her initial shock by pouring extra energy into facing the crisis, while Michele, exhausted by an unsuccessful job hunt, lets himself go, alternating between vivacity and apathy. The growing distance between them eventually leads to a break-up. Only when they part will they realize that they risk losing their most precious possession: the love the binds them."

Great, let's watch a couple struggle the whole movie and break up. It took me time to get into it knowing that a break-up was going to happen. However it was a fabulous film! The break up was actually for only 24 hours, so not even a real break up in my opinion. So that was good, but it was very well written, the acting was amazing, and it truly gave hope. It was very captivating and I highly recommend it! And yes, it is an Italian film, but don't let reading subtitles scare you away. It is very well worth it! It was nominated for 15 'David Di Donatello Awards" (Italian Academy Awards). This movie was Jeff's choice, he thoroughly enjoyed it too, good pick hun!

Sunny

A name we seriously considered for Maci, was Sunny, as in Sunny Baudelaire. Makes me wonder if we really should have gone with it.
She is still teething, has cut 3 out of 4 on top and the last few days have been exasperated with her constant change of mood and lingering grumpiness.

Maci bites every thing and I'm sure she'll be an expert chef by the times she can talk. She is quite talented with her culinary creations. ;-)

Sorry I've slacked with the videos I keep promising that proves she walks with the walker and that she climbs stairs. Just been a bit busy.

Uh Oh!

Watching 'Little People' her stance just got wider and wider as time passed. It was pretty funny!

This picture Ash took of Maci. He loves taking pictures. I only let him do it supervised. We've only had this camera a year and I don't want it busted up!

Maci figured out how to climb stairs today! Went and pulled the baby gate out of storage. It's an old one w/o one of those cool swing doors. Oh well. She always loves walking with the baby walker. I'll get a video one of these days. Her top four teeth have cut through, two of them are farther out than the others, and it seems that the other two still hurt. Fun.

Movies

I don't really get to talk to a lot of people about movies, and figured I should post my reviews on my blog, so here it goes!

These we saw last week.

1.Doubt
I honestly had my 'doubts' about seeing this movie, knowing what it was about, it could have been very dirty. It was done tastefully and very smart. It really was an amazing performances by it's 3 top characters, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Again I was very pleased that they never went into details, it didn't have horrible scenes either. Very well done, two thumbs up!
2. Transformers 2
I liked the first film a lot and quite disappointed with the sequel. Way too much dialogue from the bots. We couldn't even finish it. I usually hate not knowing what happens, but I was completely satisfied to turn it off and to never know.
3. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
French Film
I enjoy Foreign Films but don't know anyone that does, so it's usually a shot in the dark for us. This had Audrey Tautou (Amelie, Da Vinci Code). It was great fun! Had a fun plot with a great twist! I can't say much more w/o out giving away the whole plot. But it's about Angelique's relationship with a cardiologist who is married.

We rented Days and Clouds this week, it's an Italian film. I'll let you know once we finish it!

Happy Halloween!

These were our pumpkins, I guess I could say are, because they're still outside on the porch. We carved them Friday night and took them to our Trunk or Treat. We won awards for the scariest and the most creative for Burt and Ernie! Go us!

Jeff toasting pumpkin seeds.
Laura carving the pumpkin and playing with it's guts!
Ash wearing his tie-dye shirt we attempted earlier in the month, he loved it though!

Ash dressed up as Woody! He didn't want to put it all on, but the we showed him what he looked like in the mirror and he loved it!

Slow Down Maci

Maci is growing up too fast!!! She is currently cutting 4 teeth! (so soon to be a total of 6 teeth!) They're the top four in the front. She is crawling quite quickly and I'm sure she'll be faster by the end of the week. She loves to stand up, and will stand up and hold on to the sofa and walk the length of it. She can go sideways and forward! She turned 8 months a week ago Sunday!!! She just wants to grow up! My mom told her today, "Slow down Maci, you only get to be a Baby once!"

Rob and Jill

Rob is my younger brother and an amazing guy. His cute wife is Jill. I'm so lucky he married such a great girl. She is so sweet, tender, loving and helpful. They've been married just over two years now. Jill gave birth to a still born on Friday, October 30th. She was 30 weeks along. It has been a tremendously rough time. It's hard to see so much grief. But in all the sadness we can't forget how lucky we are as members of the church to have the knowledge and blessings of eternal families. To know of the premortal life and to know what happens after death. To know about the plan of salvation, and to simply know of Heavenly Father's unconditional love. Rob and Jill are so strong and will be able to endure this. We (speaking for all my family) have been blessed by so many wonderful friends and family and their out pooring of love and willingness to help.
