My Wardrobe

I am a distance student. This does not mean that I hang out in my pajamas all day, but...well, nearly. I believe at one time that I could have been called fashionable. I'm pretty sure lately I would be mistaken for a bag lady except for the iphone incessantly playing lectures and the two year old I'm chasing after.
The thing is, I used to enjoy shopping. A lot. But suddenly I find that the adorable sweatshirt that costs $50 is $25 too much for me to justify. And the Banana stuff I want can be procrastinated until I can make my way to the outlets. In general though, I just don't find as much that I consider really desireable. It's like my fashion sense was stolen and I'm only now realizing that it's missing. Either that or the fashions today just aren't as exciting. I do think I've seen some stuff at Anthropologie that I like, but there again the prices just don't seem reasonable. I want Walmart prices (love to hate it) for Lauren style, REI durability, eco-friendly manufacturing, and (I think this is the kicker...) ultimate comfort, all delivered to my door and perfectly flattering without having to even try it on. Yeah.
So I usually end up wearing the pants that are most comfortable (not tight, but don't fall off my non-existent rear/hips), the shirt that is easiest to wash in the next round of laundry, and flip-flops. Throw on a mismatched sweatshirt.
It's not just a wardrobe issue. I wear my glasses because I'm too lazy to put the contacts in every day, and too wimpy to make the decision to just get Lasik already (but it's so FINAL, and leaves a flap...). My mani/pedi looks like I'm a medeival slave. I haven't had a haircut in at least 8 months, and it's so long it's always in a ponytail anyway. I have wrinkles coming on that make me look like I'm nearly 40 now. Sometime soon I'm going to have to make some changes. But I don't think that day is today.

The New Attempt at Blogging

So, I'm clearly not going to be very consistent with this whole blogging thing. Nor am I going to have one of those clearly-organized, themed blogs. This blog is going to simply be the ramblings that I feel like posting, when I feel like posting them, in no particular order. Also, I've decided that it's really impossible (read: I just don't feel like trying within my current time constraints) to catch up on all of the "events" or thoughts I have failed to post over that last year or so. Sorry.
On to today. I woke up deliciously late. I'll admit I feel a twinge of guilt when I wake up and see the hour anytime after 10 am. Especially since overall I do NOT have time for such wasteful behavior. Today it was 10:01 when I ACTUALLY rolled out of bed, but really I'd been awake for at least an hour and a half and was just enjoying being in bed that much. Also, it was recently daylight savings, (so I tell myself it's like it's really 9 am) and we didn't get to bed until around midnight. And of course, I spent some significant time around 3-4 am trying to convince Ethan that his bed is as desireable as ours. In the end, he slept on the couch cushion on the floor next to our bed...again. Back to waking up though...I do sooo love the feeling of stretching out and running my hands over the cool sheets. I love snuggling up with Ethan. So much. And I love that sort of half-awake moment when Josh kisses me goodbye in the mornings (around 7:15 am).
New attempt at blogging, new attempt at my new day...today I intend to have my "mini-devotional," watch lectures, work on that ethics exam, study for the dispensing quiz/exam, email a few more folks about rotations, and at some point exercise. Also, I'm sure we'll be going to the park again, as Ethan has "needs." According to him, he NEEDS a lot of things. He NEEDS to go to the beach today. He NEEDS to go to the library. He NEEDS to play Angry Birds, right NOW. What I like to call his assertiveness is getting out of control.
So, the other day I was sick. Really sick. Except I didn't know it until after I had already had friends and the missionaries over for dinner, so I hope I didn't infect anyone. Rewind a little further back...let's skip back to last Thursday.
So, Josh texts me around 4 pm to let me know that he has a flight at 6 pm, and I need to take him to the airport. Extremely lame, since this is during my LAST SPRING BREAK ever (let's hope anyway, I'd like to pass this semester). So we take him to the airport. We drive home in moderate traffic. I get home around 7 pm, and see that my new iphone is stuck on some random screen and won't even turn on. Suddenly gripped with anxiety at the prospects of being torn apart from my favorite new communication tool, I take Ethan over to the neighbors for a few minutes (So sad they are moving!!) while I run in desperation to the Apple store in the mall (like 2 minutes away). Apple store shows me love, I return with my fixed phone and instructions on how to be slightly more patient next time. As I return to pick up Ethan (seriously 30 minutes later) I find him wandering around their apartment wearing one of Ben's old T-shirts. Nothing else. Also, a suspiciously large spot on the carpet they have JUST taken carpet cleaner to. Apparently my child sat there for a few minutes after I left, and then spewed massive amounts including his entire, still identifiable, lunch from at least 5 hours earlier. Really? I SWEAR he wasn't sick before I dropped him off. I felt SO awful. Thankfully they were super sweet about it, and even invited him back again.
Now to Saturday night. So, I felt fine all day, and then as we're sitting down to dinner, I realized I wasn't all that hungry. That was the start. I started to become a little uncomfortable as we were talking and playing a little Wii later, but again I was able to kind of blow it off as gas pains. I realized I was probably sick as I became increasingly nauseous and ended up on the WC for a while later that night clearing out one end of my digestive tract. But it wasn't until I found myself on the floor in a cold sweat partly wishing I could just pass out, but knowing nobody would find me or take care of Ethan for a few days if I did, that I realized just how uncomfortable this night was looking to be. I kept my iphone close in case I had to call for help, and left the hotel lock on the front door unlocked so Ethan could escape if I died. Apparently that appeased my fears somewhat. Basically every hour, all night long, this was repeated, until I threw up more than I would have thought possible. I'm convinced I entirely cleared my bowels. Pleasant, I know. Thankfully, my illness was nearly as short lived as Ethan's had been, and by Sunday night I was eating again just fine.

Bi-Annual Update

Ha Ha, so I knew when I decided to start a blog that I'd probably be inconsistent and write infrequently, but I actually almost forgot that I started a blog. We are super busy; this semester is packed with busy work for me, and work-ups are keeping Josh busy and gone most of the time. I have several exams, for which I am currently procrastinating my studies, thus this new post. Ethan is busy exploring and learning. He learned how to climb up on the railing of our patio, and then learned how to unlock the door to go out, so as always I have to watch him like...the super protective mother I am. Today the plan is pharmacology. And probably a walk up to the mall...Ben and Jerry's is giving out free ice cream cones today. So, for anyone near a Vons...the daffodil stems that they sell for 1.50 a bunch are absolutely lovely. They look basically like dead stems at the store, then you bring them home and ta-da! they bloom into deliciously fragrant, cheerful daffodils overnight. Also, I recommend the new sweet lemon fragrance from the Body Shop for anyone looking to try a light, refreshing scent this spring. The picture above is from St. Patrick's Day...I just couldn't resist the cute little green outfit for Ethan. Apparently I've been on a slight shopping binge? Call it retail therapy. Happy Spring!!

This morning we went to the beach for surf group. I didn't get to surf, because just as I was about to go out (the second hour) Ethan started rubbing his sandy eyes with his sandy little hands, and since it was already about naptime this was somewhat disastrous. He LOVES sand, but unfortunately still thinks of it as somewhat of a culinary delight in addition to being play material. We also love the the other cool stuff you can find at the beach, like this kelp piece, above. We got to play in the sand for a while though. Apparently decent surfing today, and not sunny. It's wonderful at the beach without the sun, actually. The sand doesn't burn your feet or legs, less worry about sunburn, fewer people. Sand isn't the only thing Ethan tries to eat these days. Seriously, it's just wrong the things he will put into his mouth (and swallow if I can't get it out fast enough).

The Start

So, I'm thinking that I will try to keep a blog. Just in case there is really anyone who would like to know more of our silly daily stories and get more regular updates from me than you are likely to receive otherwise. I'll try to post pictures and updates regularly, but I make no promises of dilligence, express or otherwise. Check in as often as you'd like or as little.
