i'm the LUCKIEST girl in the whole wide world.

YES!!! i said it. i am!!

why?

because...
1. i'm loved by God and i get to love him because he first loved me. so awesome.
2. my family loves me, so so much! i love laughing, talking, praying, discussing about life, talking about theology, eating, and worshipping with my family. my dad is funny, my mom is gentle, and my brother is goofy. can't get any better than this.
3. since i was a little girl, i felt like no one could really understand me. but looking back, the Lord has been the constant support throughout my whole life, and gradually, as i learn to rely solely on him, he graciously provided like-minded friends around me. i love that.
4. my three best friends/sister in Christ are going to be in taiwan this summer. with me and my family!! can't get any better than this. michelle and beth are coming early june, and julia is stopping by middle of june. WHOO HOO.
5. i'm in medical school. wow. what a humbling thought. learning about the different diseases and process of how our body works makes me in awe, everyday, of how beautiful and uniquely we were created, solely for his glory and our good.
6. i get to sing and sing some more and sing again everyday. thank you Lord for voices. and music.
7. i am drinking free starbucks coffee right now. as i type this post. and it's good.

sadly, i don't feel like i'm the luckiest girl in the whole wide world everyday, because my eyes are fixing on things that will come and go and my heart believes in the roller coster emotions that goes on everyday.

but when i sit down and ponder, and be real honest with myself, i can't deny or lie to myself anymore. i am indeed the LUCKIEST (and very very blessed) girl and i love my life. and i am thankful and grateful. thank you Lord. so much.

just be you. and you will soon find out how you are also the luckiest person in the whole wide world.
now back to studying. life is a mystery - discover it.
i love you all. goodbye for now. be thankful. and i dare you to be YOU!

it's been WAY too long....

since i last updated my blog. mhmm. that's right.

can you believe it? in just a couple of weeks, i will officially finish my first year of medical school. WHOO HOO. praise the Lord. i can't believe it, but i better believe it and start studying for those finals:)

hello blog. and blog readers.

so much has happened in the past months and i don't know how to catch up in writing all about it. so, i will just write about some current things in my life. we are currently in neuroscience block, which means we get to learn ALL about the brain. every little bump and grove and more bumps and more grooves...they all have a name and a function and we don't even know ALL about them yet. isn't that amazing? i've been so fascinated and blown away by how amazing we are designed. true that! and i am extremely thankful that God has made me the way I am: a simple girl with a heart to serve and an interest to learn about the human body...and my brain is wired in a way that i truly love and appreciate what i am learning, even if it takes me hours and hours to do that. i love it.

one thing that i've been learning and meditating is love. yep. four letter word love. so short yet SO powerful. and i still don't get it sometimes. i want to love and be loved. i was reading these verses the other day:
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. it is not proud. it is not rude. it is not self-seeking. love doesn't delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. it always trusts, always protects, always hopes. love never fails."
hmm...using these verses as benchmark, i failed the test for love. i am not always patient. or kind. definetely been envy of others. kind of prideful sometimes. yep..been rude. mhmm...self-seeking. ok..i'll stop there. but then this verse comes up.
"We love because God first loved us."
which brings up another question: have i experience the love of God today? he promised us that his love is EVERlasting and UNconditional. wow...i want that. love that is everlasting and unconditional....how would my life look like if i truly experience this kind of love? would the way i love others change? would my idea of marriage be different? would be thoughts about mission change? i'm still wrestling with it...but it's been so good to learn to be in his love and be intentional in how i love others around me.

summer is coming up. and i am really excited. i will be spending a month in taiwan with my wonderful parents! yay. i can't wait to be their little girl for the summer. my two best friends from college, beth and michelle, will be joining me for 2 weeks in taiwan. and that is going to be awesome. i can't believe they are going to get to experience my life on the other side of the world with me. after the month in taiwan, i will be back to Texas for a month of medical mission trip. you can read more about it at http://sites.google.com/site/estheronmission/

until then, i am here. mhmm. right here.

i love you all. goodbye for now. oh how i missed you!!

my heart is glad

i've been so so blessed lately by the community of Christ-- a simple phone call, a coffee date, a pumpkin--all screams the fact that WE NEED COMMUNITY and we can't do it on our own. praise Him:D

being in med school has been a bittersweet journey. though i don't want to admit it, i must say that i have been drifted and distracted by school work more than i would want to admit. i wake up, going to sleep, eat, breathe one thing: school.

but that is not how it should be.

i am only two months into this journey called med school, and i already feel burned out, well, not quite yet. i am so thankful that before i was completely exhausted and burned out, the Lord graciously provided extended time with him to read his word, to repent and confess my inadequacy and insecurities, and to be reminded of who i am in him. and second to love him wholeheartedly, i am called to love others around us like he loves us. and i want to do that.

i am also amazed and in awe of the power of the cross. the cross is so powerful: it is more than a religious symbol, or something to hang on the wall or wear it as a necklace, or a fun tattoo- it is how the Father demonstrated his love for us, how the Son showed his obedience and submission to the Father, how we can be reconciled to the Father, and how we can NOW experience his freedom, joy, and love everyday. i find myself trying to "medicate" myself with things of this world-- but, honestly, there isn't any fulfillment in life outside of Christ. and i am thankful for that.

goodbye for now. sit in the Father's presence. i love you all.

thoughts...

"The gospel is the one great permanent circumstance in which I live and move; and every hardship in my life is allowed by God only because it serves His gospel purposes in me. When I view my circumstances in this light, I realize that the gospel is not just one piece of good news that fits into my life somewhere among all the bad." - Milton Vincent, A Gospel Primer

'nuff said.

goodbye for now. i love you all.

what's been going on?

so..it's been almost two months since i started medical school. can you BELIEVE it?!?!?! it's has been a challenging and exciting journey all at the same time. couple things about my life the past two months:

1. studying + more studying + more studying

2. i love making charts while studying--God has created everything in such a unique way that, though i spend almost 5-6 hours each day studying, there are still more to discover!

3. i'm very humbled, everyday, by the fact that i am in medical school. i kept asking my self: how did i make it though undergrad? i remember the nights where i just cram for exams the night before and still made good grades...not the case in med school. it's definitely a marathon where you jog, train, and learn everyday---for a purpose greater than just getting good grades, but it's so that i may glorify God in becoming an excellent physician who serve my patients with my all.

4. little things in life matter--they bring a smile to my face. here's a picture of a sunset that i saw after class one day:D

5. with blue scrubs, a "medical student" ID, and some training--i gave shots to kids at a health circus. yes...i shot them with goodies:D

there's no doubt in my mind that we are truly "fearfully and wonderfully made". He indeed knitted (a great word choice by the psalmist) us together in our mother's womb. each cell, each muscle fibers, each bone he put in place, each blood vessels and nerve---all screams of how wonderful he is!!

I was sick about 3 weeks into the semester...and let me tell ya--being sick and having lots of school work piling up is not fun. however, it was a beautiful testimony of how the Lord's strength is indeed perfect when we are weak. thank God for loving family and friends who are also faithful prayer warriors.

i've also realized, when we are under the influence of great pressure, we see more and more how "fleshly" we are. i am even shocked by my own comments towards others sometimes. AHH...may we be on guard always on how to live a godly life among the nonbelievers, even during stressful times.

goodbye for now. i love you all. persevere and fix your eyes on Jesus.

that's right... in your face...

i am now officially in my 4th week of medical school...yay:D and, let's be honest, it hasn't been easy.

i thought it would be like this :
my passion to be a doctor + undergrads good grades + acceptance into med school = be a doctor

what i forgot was the part about getting through med school:P

anyho, it's been four amazing weeks getting to know some pretty awesome people in my class. on top of that, i get to study ALL the time. though studying all the time doesn't sound fun, i do have to admit that getting to spend hours and hours learning about how remarkable the human body is so rewarding. we are all one of a kind:)

but i came to the realization today, before my first test, that it is not I the one who is "so qualify" to be in med school--rather, i am competent because He makes me competent in him. no way do i want to boast about what i can do, because i can't do anything. it is not I, it is all Him. the mere fact that i am in med school is a wonderful testimony of His abundant love. i didn't even choose this med school--it was the perfect gift.

my head can sometime think: yeah, i am pretty good, i can do this, etc. but, what it all boils down to, i am not all that. however, i am complete because of Him.

goodbye for now. i love you all. truth rocks!

i am physically in Texas...

...but my heart is still in Asia.

AHH, Lord, please, cause my heart to be still and be quiet in you, and be completely here, where you have for me right now in this season. may my eyes be fix on you and the plan, the perfect plan, which you have for my life. guard my heart that i may fully be here. i want to be where you want me to be,

and it's here, in Texas.

Amen.

goodbye for now. I love you all. be all there, wherever you are.
