The Sgt. Brandon Thomas Memorial Fund Mission Statement
Mission
The Sgt. Brandon Thomas Memorial Fund has been established to provide financial assistance to family members of Utah’s Fallen and Wounded Warriors in the War on Terror, and to veterans' organizations that provide services and assistance to Utah's wounded vets. The award monies are open to the families of all Utah National Guard and Utah resident US servicemen & service women who have died while performing duties related to the defense of the United States of America in the War on Terror between 2001 and the present, and to returning vets wounded during their service between 2001 and the present.
Awards Process
Applicants for assistance must complete and submit the attached application form, along with a current copy of their military ID and a copy of form DD1300. Incomplete packages will not be accepted. Applicants will be selected for an award based on their need and eligibility. Award recommendations and final selection will be at the discretion of the Awards Committee. Applicant anonymity will be preserved during the selection process. Some awards may also be initiated by the Awards Committee based on identifiable needs in the public domain. Annual fund distributions will not exceed 60% of the funds generated for that specific year, with the remaining 40% going into the fund to build the fund base. The fund will be assigned to an interest bearing account. Yearly event deposits and annual interest will allow the the fund to grow in perpetuity, guaranteeing that annual awards may be available to meet future veterans' needs, even in the event that the Annual Sgt. Brandon Thomas Memorial Ride ceases to exist as an event.
