Christmas 2011

Holidays are always so much more fun with Gage!! This Christmas he really started to understand the idea of Santa Claus and was happy to see him at preschool three times! He was happy to ask him for a dinosaur and knew that you had to be good to get what you wanted for Christmas. He also enjoyed singing the many Christmas songs he heard in the car and sang at school--Holly Jolly Christmas, Rudolph, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Frosty, etc. He sang them everywhere he went, all day long! It was wonderful to hear him sing, open presents, and enjoy everything about the holiday!

In the head of a 4 year old...

I just can't get enough of the things Gage says! He is such a thinker, and has such a great personality and sense of humor!!

"Mom, open your mouth so I can cough on my baby sister!"

"Mom, after my baby sister comes out, then you can run again."

"Mom, do you see that puppy in the car? It's so cute! I want three puppies, so I can have one like that one...but not that one because I don't want to take their puppy. I think we need to go to the puppy store to get one."

"I don't want to write a letter to Santa, I want to write one to Grandpa!"

Preschool Halloween

Gage loves every part of preschool and comes home with all kinds of stories and tells me all about what he did and learned in preschool that day. He also loves to sing the songs he learns, so even though he doesn't like singing for a big crowd, he does sing these songs all the time at home!!

Random Thoughts

Gage's mind is constantly at work and the wheels are turning around so fast, I'm not sure how he doesn't get burned out! He will be sitting in the car or sitting watching tv, and he will come up with the most random things to say, that I can't help but laugh!!

When I pick him up from school, I ask him what book he read that day. Well, the first day of school, he quickly told me about the book being about a chicken with the sky falling. But every day since then, he'll say, "I don't remember, tell me." I tell him that I don't know, I wasn't there, that's why I asked him. Then he'll change the subject most of the time, but the other day he kept saying I should tell him the book, and I started to guess what it may be about. And he says, "No, silly. It was about a bunny and a fox!" I asked him if it was funny, and he says, "NO! The bunny had to get away from the fox and it did!!"

When he is in the bathtub, he sings songs often, but most of the time he is busy playing with his superheros and having them take over the bad guy. "You get in there and don't come back out!" "Wait, I don't want to be in here, I'll be nice!" "Ok, but you need to be good now!"
And while he was playing one day in the tub, he randomly came out with, "Mom, Daddy needs to come home so we can go to your doctor. You, me, and daddy need to go to your doctor so you don't get sick."

My favorite so far...We were sitting on the couch, watching tv, and he just comes out and says, "You and daddy need to stop snoring, it's too loud!!" I told him that I don't snore, and he says, "Well, Daddy does and it's too loud and he needs to stop!" I told him he could tell him that when he gets home. He said that he'll tell him when the sun comes up and he wakes him up!

Oh, that boy makes me laugh!!

I lucked out!!

I had my ultrasound on Friday, Sept 2. I was so nervous to go because I was so hoping for a girl, but had a feeling it may be a boy. I would love the baby either way, don't get me wrong, but I always dreamed of having 1 boy and 1 girl...and I imagined it being the boy first so he could play the "big brother" role.
Well, the ultrasound tech was looking and poking around, and saying that I may have broken her streak for the last two weeks!! I asked what that streak was, and she said they were all boys. I almost screamed! I'm asked her if she was saying it's a girl?! The baby wasn't wanting to outwardly show, unlike Gage who was dancing all around in my tummy showing the world what he had!! But she got a pretty good shot that made it appear that nothing was really there!!
The tech tried to get a few more shots, but this little one was quite shy and crossing her legs and putting her hand down in front of her. But she felt confident that it was a girl, and I feel confident about it, too!! So heaven help me when everything is planned down to a "t" if it turns out otherwise.
But everything else went well and she is measuring well and is very healthy in every organ. The tech also got a great foot shot and her big toe is sticking out a little from the other ones, which is exactly like Gage's! I think I enjoyed that almost more than finding out it's a girl. A monkey foot just like her big brother!!
We are very excited and feel very lucky and blessed to have gotten the chance to have this baby come into our lives, and lucky to have a boy and a girl in our family. Gage is very excited to become a big brother, especially to a sister! I can't wait to see all he has to teach her and how cute they will be playing together. I hope her first word is "Gage" because he will be the perfect big brother!!

First Day of School

Every time I say or hear the phrase, "First Day of School," I think of Finding Nemo. Gage was just as excited as Nemo was because he was asking every day for weeks if he was going to "Ms. Lana's school".
Well, the long awaited day finally came! He had a wonderful first day and I know that this is going to be a wonderful year! He's going to start preschool and he's one of the oldest, so he's the leader of the pack!

4th Birthday

Gage has turned the big 4!! He was so excited for this birthday and asked every day for a month when he got to have his Batman cupcakes! This was the first year that he really understood what birthdays were and that you celebrated them with cakes--he had many of these at school; including his own!!
He got to have his birthday at Cabela's this year in which the kids got to feed the fish so much food, the fish didn't eat it all! They got tokens for the shooting gallery and really enjoyed that. They had a great time running around the store looking for all kinds of animals. He got time with great friends, received wonderful gifts, and had a happy and wonderful birthday!!!
Oh, the last four years with this boy have been the best and every day, year gets better! I love you, Gage!!

Dinos at the Zoo

We took a trip to the zoo and for a short time, they have dinosaurs on display that are very life like! There were some that spit water even! They all move and make sounds, which scared Gage a bit, but they were very fun to see! It was like being in Jurassic Park.

Quite a thinker!!

As I've stated in previous posts, Gage's mind is always turning. He will look at something and will think about it for a while, than make a very intelligent comment on it; or if he were to ask something and you tell him no or give him an answer he's not fond of, he'll think and come up with a good argument to change your mind.

Well, here are some stories...
We were going to the mall where there is a train ride that Gage loves to go on, on our way in, we went and talked to a police officer that was outside the doors. He handed Gage a sticker badge, which made him so happy, and talked to him a bit. When we went in, we did some shopping, he looked downstairs to find the train and was happy to see it. While we were in a store, he asked if he could ride the train, and I said I didn't have any money and asked if he did. He said no, but daddy does. So he went and asked daddy, in which daddy said he didn't have any money. So Gage proceeds to ask me again and I said I didn't have any money, and then asked if he did. He said he did in his pockets, then says that he doesn't have any pockets after he looked at his pants. Then said we need to get some money or find some money. I said we wouldn't be able to find any right now, so he said that we need to go back out and ask that car policeman for money!

We were driving in the car to go shopping and Gage said that he wanted to go sledding. I said that there was no snow to go sledding on, and he said, "Yea there is, up in the mountains. Right there, see?!" And I said that it would be too hard to get up to that snow way up in the mountains and we would have to walk and climb a long way and that wouldn't be fun. He thinks for a minute or two and states that, "We can make it, I just need to get my fishing rod and pull myself up to the snow!"

Every morning is quite a chore to get up and get ready for school. I go to wake Gage up and pull his covers up to tell him that he needs to get to get dressed. He says, "No, I'm still 'leepin, I need to 'leep just a little bit."

He comes home singing all kinds of songs that sound so fun!! It makes me feel so happy to know he loves school so much!!

Disney on Ice

We were so excited to be able to see Disney on Ice...it was a holiday celebration with so many of our favorite Disney characters--Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Daisy, Pluto, Buzz, Woody, Snow White, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Mulan, and many more.
Gage was so happy when Mickey came on, he has loved Mickey since he was a baby! It's wonderful to have him enjoy such a wonderful character. He was really in awe the entire night seeing all these characters--even the army guy from Toy Story--what a wonderful night.

Sorry the pictures aren't the best, they were taken on an old fashioned camera that came with the tickets!!

Be careful what you say...

I've learned that what I say is really be taken to heart with Gage...

"Mom, I told you yesterday not to do that! Were you not listening to me?"

"Mom, you didn't throw the ball my way, you need to say sorry to me!"

"Mom, the candy is down. Those stupid kids ate it all!"

Thankfully, he doesn't repeat everything I say! But he keeps me laughing all the time...

The Thoughts of a 3 Year Old

"Mom, I don't want to go to Walmart. We went there last week, we don't need to go again!"

"Ring around the rosies, pocket pull of posies. Astes, astes, we all fall down."

"Not one minute, twelve minutes!" "Not five, twelve!"

"Mom, you are making me so mad!!" "Mom, you are making me so sad!"

"Mom, you need to get me a treat/drink, right now!!" "I said YES"

"Mom, I not want to eat dinner, I'm not hungry...Mom, I need a treat!"

"I not want to take a bath, I'm too tired!"

Oh, this kid always keeps me laughing!!

Just Like Me...

Gage is at the stage of development where he is comparing all the things in the world to his small world.
When we read our sight words, he'll read 'school'..."Just like my school!"
'church'...just like my church
'Mickey Mouse' or any of the characters..."just like on my tv and the big tv"
'dad'...just like my daddy...'mom'...just like you!
When we were listening to a talk in church, the speaker spoke about his family reading the scriptures and Gage said, "Scriptures? Just like our home when we read scriptures on my bed."

Whenever we pass a church, he'll comment that it's a church and they have a class just like his class.
We will pass the Temples in South Jordan and he loves to yell out, "I see the Temple!" and even knows the Statue of Moroni is on top when he sees pictures of it in books--just standing alone. When we pass the Jordan River Temple, we'll tell him it's my favorite Temple and he will say, "Mom, that's your favorite! You go there with daddy and you go there with me!"
When he sees a picture of Jesus, he'll says "It's Jesus Christ, Amen."

It's so much fun to see how he perceives the world and is really paying attention to every little detail of every situation.
It's also amazing and wonderful to see how he perceives the church and is taking everything in that he learns at church. He knows the songs and loves to sing them.

You just wait until you have kids of your own!

Everybody's parents always used the threat/promise that you would feel the wrath of you when you had kids of your own. I was a very moody child and even moodier teenager--this should be no surprise since I'm still quite moody! I only ate from a very limited menu--mostly cereal. I loved animals and they controlled my life; I wouldn't do anything willingly if my dog couldn't go, too. I was and still am very stubborn! I wouldn't change or learn something new until I was good and ready, planned it all out in my head, and felt comfortable with it before I really had to do it.

Well, Gage is exactly like me!! He is very moody and you have to leave him alone until he has cried/screamed it out and is ready to talk to you and give you a hug. I know this because I am the same way. Leave us alone, just walk away and we will come talk to you when we are good and ready. If you come to us before this, you will regret it and hear us scream and yell things at you!!

He only eats from a limited menu--peanut butter/jelly, mac n cheese, toast, poptarts, fruit bars, grilled cheese, and pizza. If he could just live off poptarts and pb and j's, he would be quite content. He will just drink something or snack on goldfish or candy if he doesn't get served what he really wants. I lived off of cereal for most of my life. The occasional pb and j, grilled cheese, and pizza snuck through, but I would not budge from my menu. I would rather starve myself than eat something I did not want to eat--my mom knew this and let me eat cereal.

Gage loves animals and wants to pet all cats and dogs he comes across. He loves his "white kitty" and they are so cute together. He loves playing with his dogs--they are like his siblings--he even tattles on them quite often. He loves to go to the zoo, aquarium, pet store, and any where else he can see any type of animal.

Gage loves to learn and read as much as I do!! He is loving going to school and can't wait to learn more! However, he likes to learn when he is good and ready. He has to have it all planned out in his head and feel confident that he will get it perfect when he does it in front of people...or he likes to goof off and make you laugh. But he's so smart!!

Gage is incredible and I am thankful for him every second of every day!! It's incredible to watch him grow into his own little personality and being. When he has a tantrum, I just sit back and smile because it is truly like watching a little version of me! This makes me so happy because I never though I would be able to have a child, but I did get blessed with one and he's amazing and wonderful in every way possible!!
So blessed to be able to watch him continue to grow and learn.

HELLO EVERYBODY!!

Gage loves movies...and his new favorite movie is Despicable Me! He has seen it many, many times, has it memorized and goes around everywhere saying lines from the movie. Our church Primary had a "Meet your Teacher" and dress up like your favorite Super Hero. Gage isn't too into Super Heros like Batman, Spiderman, etc. He knows who they are and plays with them when they are his Happy Meal toys, but his SuperHero is Mickey Mouse and Disney movie characters--funny one more than serious. He loves the seven dwarfs and Lightening McQueen. Which I'm very thankful for, he's a very well-rounded boy with a great personality that is all him, not how Batman or Superman superhero personality acts.

More funny things from the mouth of a 3 year old

Well, Gage is always thinking of new ways to solve problems and make me laugh!

He looked up at the sliver of the moon tonight and said that the moon is falling apart!

He loves playing with his flashlight and making the light go all over the place. He wanted to go out tonight and play in the snow, but it was dark outside. So I told him that he had to wait until tomorrow because it was too dark to see and he would step in the dog poop. Well, Gage thought a second and said he would just take his flashlight out and shine it on the poop and step over the poop!!
Then I said that it was too cold. He then told me that his coat was nice and warm...
Well, he got to go outside with Abbie and had his flashlight with him. Oh how happy he was....how could I say no after such good persuasiveness?!

Play time fun

It's always such a fun thing to watch and play through the eyes of a three-year old. I can tell he's really enjoying school because he comes home with new ways to play--cooking dinner with great detail, things destroying other things with great sound effects, and the little converstations: "Oh, are you ok?" "yea, I'm ok." "Mommy will take care of it, it's ok." Here's a short video that shows Gage at play...

Planetarium visit

We took a quick trip one day down to the Gateway Mall, mainly so Gage could drive on the Trax train--always an adventure! While we were down there, we stopped in the Planetarium so Gage could see the space.
