Stake Relief Society Meeting
Dear Sisters,
The Stake Women's Conference was a wonderful meeting. We want to thank all of you who attended and hope you had an enjoyable time. To those of you who were unable to attend, we missed you!
The evening started out with a dinner. Our amazing food chairman Charli Svedin and her amazing food committee put together a delicious taco salad and a shortcake with mixed berries and whip cream for dessert. Our high councilmen worked very hard serving and cleaning up so that we could all enjoy the conference.
The theme of the conference was "Our Sphere of Influence." Here is just a small review of what was shared.
Sister Charlotte Dille shared a story of a young missionary who was able to stand up to a man who delighted in belittling the missionaries. Because of the influence of the spirit in this missionary's life, that man and his family were able to join the church. She also shared a quote from Sheri Dew that said. "The advesary delights in separating the sisters of this church from the spirit because he knows how vital our influence is."
Sister Ann Collins said, "Ours is the choice to follow our Savior each and every day. We can accept the Savior's invitation to come unto Him, and we will be blessed because of our righteous influence as we do so. When we feel unequal to the things before us, we can kneel in prayer and ask for His help. What is in our hearts is in our homes."
President Cindy Luna told a story of being in the temple and seeing the chandeliers gently swaying. She later learned that there had been an earthquake several hundred miles away on that same day. She said, "Our influence for good can be felt in much the same way." She shared a chart that she made that showed the influence that her brother had on her family after he joined the church. Many lives were blessed and changed because of one person.
Bro. Brian Whitlock, Idaho Area Director for Public Affairs, said, "His calling is to maintain positive relationships with key opinion leaders and assist the priesthood in moving the cause of the church forward. Elder L. Tom Perry is part of the Priesthood Committee for Public Affairs for the church, and they know what is happening all over the world and what is affecting the church." Quoting Elder Perry, he said, "We need more people of faith. Christianity is failing and we need to involve our members out in the community and we need to lift others. We may be the only organization who can do that." Bro. Whitlock also told us of a movie being put out by the church called "Meet the Mormons". It will be out in the fall before General Conference. We hope each of you will have a chance to see it. If you want to know more about the public affairs of the church, you can go to mormonnewsroom.org.
Our concluding speaker was President Sean Smith. He spoke about a lighthouse and the many ships that passed by safely because the lighthouse keeper was doing his job. He said, "We need to be making sure that there is nothing obstructing the view of others seeing our light." He changed the words of the scripture, Matthew 5:14 saying, "A sister on a hill cannot be hid. Even in the darkest of rooms a tiny light can be seen. We need an increase of faith and the spirit will do the rest. We need to allow ourselves to be illuminated and we need to pray for more courage and faith." He also told us that we need to be refueling so that we can help others to refuel.
We had a beautiful musical number by the 24th Ward Women's Chorus, who sang "Charity Never Faileth".
We sincerely hope that this conference was the fuel that you needed and that you were uplifted, inspired, and taught by the spirit of the Lord. If you were, and you know of someone who was unable to attend, please share your experience with them.
May each of us know that we are doing a great work and that our sphere of influence can be far reaching as we become that sister on the hill that cannot be hid.
Love,
The Stake Relief Society Presidency
