A year for the record books . . .

Yes, I do realize that it is nearly through January into 2013 and I'm a little slow in doing a year-in-review post, but I'm going to do it anyway. 2012 was a big year for me.  It was full of lots of changes.  It started out with a bang in January when I went on the Epic Caribbean Vacation of Awesomeness with my family.  Nearly one year ago to the day, I was jetting off to Miami.  Given the recent inversions and all around rotten weather, I'm wishing I could be heading back.  A nice vacation is definitely on the docket for 2013 at some point!  I had felt for a long time that my birthday in April was going to be a turning point for me to start looking into new jobs.  The time was right because the stars aligned and I began my new job in June.  I recovered from a wrist fracture in July.  Things calmed down until the next exciting thing happened to round out the year.  I became an aunt at the beginning of December.  My nephew is the most perfect, most adorable baby in the whole world.  I know I'm biased, but he's fantastic. I am so looking forward to watching him grow up and spoiling him.  It's been so wonderful to see my brother and sister-in-law as parents.  They are fantastic.

I said goodbye to 2012 in big city girl fashion.  Hannah and I rode the train to Salt Lake City where we attended Eve.  We had a great time and enjoyed comedy shows, live music, fireworks, and freezing temperatures.

So long 2012!  You were good to me.  I think 2013 will be a good one too.  I've been thinking about the new year and bucket lists.  There's nothing quite like working with cancer patients every day.  There is something about seeing people come to terms with their mortality.  One patient recently told me that he and his wife came to terms with the fact that his cancer will be fatal.  They have accepted that fact and made very conscious and careful decisions about what they are doing with these last months/years together.  I made one New Year's Resolution in 2012 and it's one I actually kept.  It was very simple.  Two words in fact:  Live intentionally.  So many of us let our lives just happen to us rather than making conscious decisions.  I'm grateful to have learned this lesson without having to go through cancer and come face to face with my own mortality, even though you never know what can happen.  So back to my bucket list.  I feel pretty good about the things I have written down on there and look forward to achieving them.  I was able to actually check one off this year and see Wicked with my sister.  It was amazing and definitely worth a spot on the bucket list.  Welcome to my world, 2013.  Let's rock this.
