Big Boy Bed

Goodbye Crib - Hello Big Boy Bed!
Stewart moved to a toddler bed last weekend and the transition was seamless.  I had been building it up over the last few weeks and he was so HAPPY to be a big kid that you could barely wipe the smile off his face.  He is quite proud of his new bed and he is so excited that he can actually get in and out of it!  So far he hasn't come out of his room - lets hope it lasts.

Zoolites and Skype with Santa

We went to Zoolites this year at the Calgary Zoo, many thanks to John, Lynn & Maggie. This was our first time and the boys definitely enjoyed it.

Visit with Santa

Paula took the boys to go see Santa and judging by the smiles on their faces I would say it was a HUGE success!  Matt had been petrified of Santa over the last few years but this year he really wanted Star Wars Lego so I think he went out of his comfort zone to ensure he gets what he wants under the tree!  Stewart on the other hand wants to talk to Santa and every opportunity!  He has also been quite obsessed with his wardrobe (a little fashionista he is) and insisted on wearing this huge shirt ... reagrdless they look adorable!

Halloween: Trick or Treat

This was Matt's 4th year going Trick or Treating with Julien.  This year Stewart and Julien's little brother Joseph got to join in on the excitement.  This was Stewart's first time Trick or Treating and he caught on quick!

Matt barely able to contain his excitement
... he gets to go trick or treating in less than an hour!!

Matt picked this "Commander Cody Storm Trooper" Costume out online.  Matt is obsessed with StarWars, he has never seen the movies but from Star Wars LEGO books and a Star Wars LEGO poster on his wall, he has ammassed a scary amount of Star Wars knowledge!  He was quite concerned about his costume getting dirty and insisted I tuck it into his boots!

Since Stewart likes to copy Matt ... he was "Commander Cody Giraffe"
If you ask him - that is what he'll tell you!

Ready to go!

Joesph (who does not look impressed), Matt, Julien and Stewart

Stewart was pumped - Let's GO!

Charming the ladies

Happy Halloweeners
more candy then they will ever eat!

Halloween Pumpkins

This year we did a couple of pumpkins and Matt even drew out his face and directed me in the cutting,  See below for the drawing and pumpkin comparison - I thought he did an amazing job!

Matt's drawing on the right and the finished product on the left.  Hopefully you can see the mouth, nose with nostrils, the left eye had to be bigger, have a flat bottom and a floating pupil, and the crazy eyebrows.  The black stuff all over is "goo" and Matt insisted on drawing the "goo" all over the pumpkin as well.

Troll Falls

We ventured out on a second hike - to Troll Falls right by Nakiska (we were planting the skiing seeds).  The boys were more excited and Matt simply requested that ther not be as much "UP" ... well who could blame him?

 our hikers

Stewart gets pretty easily distracted ....

he likes to go and break new trail...

and sit on EVERY rock

or sit randomly in the middle of the trail

and play hide and seek in the woods
and draw on trees
ever herd a cat?

but we did eventually make it to the falls

there were multiple trails in the area so...
we opted for the meadow walk by the river for the walk home

 just strolling along

we went down to the creek to throw some more rocks

and if you get tired ... you can just sit down and throw rocks

or you can do some wading in the creek

which quickly escalated to skinny dipping

Stewart really wanted to get in there and join the nudity

I literally had to give matt the shirt off my back so he could dry off!

Just so it didn't take 3 hours to get back to the van (which I assure you is not an exaggeration, any doubt please refer to photos at the top of this post), I threw Stewart into the Ergo for the final trek home

Black Prince Cirque

So back when it was actually summer.... we managed to get the boys out for a couple of hikes.  The first of which was Black Prince Cirque.  Overall the boys did pretty well, Stewart walked most of the trail on the way in and most of the way back.  Matt walked all the way in and rode in the Ergo carrier on my back the whole way back (little bugger).  But I am not complaining - we got out to the mountains and I couldn't have been happier!
our little hikers, complete with hiking poles

Matt wanted to wear his new school backpack
so he could carry his art supplies...

there was one hill that took some time to get up

rest stop at the top

lots to see along the way ...
we tried counting mushrooms to keep it interesting

Matt needed some time to "do his art" so
we had a snack break in the shade

we're here!

Rock throwing was a HUGE hit

Family Pic

Trip back involved Stew on Dad's shoulders

and Matt on my back!
