Mustache
it started out around halloween when scott realized, the day of, that he should have dressed up as commissioner gordon to go with sawyer's batman costume. it was too late for him to grow a mustache, but the thought never left his mind. well, one day last month he decided to go for it. he shaved off his goatee and started the process of growing a mustache. well, by the middle of december he realized that he hated the way that it felt on his lips and it hadn't grown in a full as he wanted it to . . . so he shaved it off . . . but not before we got some cheesy pictures. . .enjoy!
Preggo Pictures
so we have made it to december and we realized that we hadn't taken a single picture of my big belly. when my friend amanda came over to make cookies we took the opportunity to snap a few. the baby was riding really high.
only a little longer until we have our baby girl. we are getting excited to see what she looks like. my non-stress tests and the many ultrasounds that i have already shown us that she is going to be a hand full. she moves a ton, i have to warn the nurses who are trying to monitor her heartbeat that she will move a lot and she never disappoints. only about a week and a half to go!
November
we have been really blessed so far with a child that is well behaved (most of the time). most parents have to worry when their child is quiet for too long, but we have never had that worry. when sawyer is quiet for too long, we usually find him playing in his room. that is. . .until now. one relaxing day in november sawyer went into the bathroom to wash his hands. well, he did wash his hands, but he also found his hair wax and decided to do his hair. when scott found him, he was so excited to show us his hair. he was so proud of what he had done, that we couldn't discipline him. he did a great job, right?

on thanksgiving morning we made cinnamon rolls. sawyer has been wanting to help with everything, so he was proud to show off his roll arranging skills.

i then attempted to make a small thanksgiving dinner for our family and scott's mom. out of all the things that i made, i had only previously made the rolls. this was my first attempt at a turkey, i think it turned out well. everything was delicious, if i say so myself.

Halloween
halloween is definitely sawyer's favorite holiday. he is still talking about it! we carved pumpkins. (i got the good one...scott's pumpkin guts were gross and slimy.) sawyer helped design and attempted to help carve. he was more interested in trying on his costume and running around the house, posing as batman. you should see him in action. he's got the moves down.
here are our finished pumpkins.
on halloween sawyer went to preschool and had a parade around a few of the high school classrooms. then they partied! i had the usual parade and party at school also. i decided to not dress up this year. i didn't want to make or buy a pregnant costume. right after school we went to amanda's house for trick-or-treating. it is becoming a tradition. we had two batmans! these are koren's little ones. (sawyer is second from the left.)

not bad for a put together costume, huh?

he wore his costume every day after school for about two weeks and still puts on the cape and mask several times a week. he loves dressing up and running around like a super hero. we feel very protected from any super villains that may come our way.

It's a GIRL!
Here are the pics. See her cute face!
The baby was moving a lot. At one point she was waving her arm and we told Sawyer that is what she was doing and he said, "She's saying Hi to me!" The tech giggled and then wrote on the picture of her arm, "Hi Sawyer." It's hard to see, but it's on there.
We are very excited and are already starting to plan our strategy of NOT spending too much money on girly things. It will be hard. My plan is to go through Sawyer's old things and pull out all of the things that we can put on a girl, if we include a bow. I go back in 4 weeks so we will, hopefully, have more pics to show.

Our little bean started going to daycare/preschool last month. It is his first time away from home for such an extended period of time. We made this decision for several reasons. . .Scott really needed to be able to take day classes, he also needed the study time, and Sawyer needed more social interaction with his peers. (He is such a people person!) He loves going to "playschool" (he gets the title from his favorite TV show Caillou.) We pack him a lunch everyday, since he is such a picky eater he doesn't always eat what is provided. Scott misses his buddy, but it has been a good decision and the new baby will be able to go to the same daycare come mid March, so they will be together.
The playschool had it's first field trip to the State Fair last week. Scott and I were very leery of letting him go to such a huge venue, so far away (northern Salt Lake), without either of us, so I took the day off and we went together. It was interesting......the daycare is located as pat of the local high school and it is a lab for those students looking at going into the childcare field. There were several high school students that went along, one for each child and all of the adult teachers were there. All went well, except for the two teenagers who took off (I felt justified in my worries when that happened.) He is on the far right in this picture.
One of my favorite parts was a section called Little Hands on the Farm. It was a chance for the little ones to be "farmers." The following pictures are of that part of the Fair.
Here he is all ready to be a farmer. He has his apron and basket.
He fed and "milked" a cow.

He picked an "apple" from the orchard.

He planted a "seed" and harvested his crop. (He planted an "onion", but harvested a "carrot".)
He brushed a "sheep", gathered it's wool, and then went into the chicken coop. I love this picture of him looking at the "chickens."

After he had done all of this, he went into a building where he had to sort all of the things in his basket. He put them into the correct bins and then got a "dollar" for his hard work. We then walked into the Country Store where he was able to buy a snack with his hard earned money. He chose a cereal sample of Fruit Loops. It was so fun!
After the farm, we went to look at the livestock. We saw a lot of varieties of sheep, goats (Sawyer is petting one in the pic), cows, horses, rabbits, pigeons, chickens, and an emu. He tried to touch as many as he could. He loves seeing the different animals.
We also went into the produce building and looked at all of the fruit and vegetables. A favorite of the children was the GINORMOUS pumpkin. It was funny because they all had to lean on it. Sawyer kept wanting to go back to it.

After lunch, we were walking back towards the exit to get on the bus, when we saw a man walking his geese along the path. The kids all giggled to see the geese dressed up in their finest.
Overall, it was a fun day. Most of the little ones, and some of the teenagers, fell asleep on the bus ride back to the school. Then Sawyer and I went to get some frozen yogurt before we had to go and pick up Scott from the bus stop.
P.S. All of the dates on the pictures are wrong.

Two posts in one day? What is this world coming to?? I wanted to talk about this next thing in a separate post so that Sawyer would not have his birthday post overshadowed by our other news...I got my birthday present about 2 months early this year. After years of trying, we are going to have another baby!! I'm 15 weeks along and due January 28th. It feels both very close and very far away at the same time. Once school starts in a few weeks I know the time is just gonna fly. I cannot begin to tell you the mix of emotions that we are having right now. We are scared, excited, nervous, overwhelmed, surprised, happy, blessed, and generally in disbelief over the prospect of another little one. I guess we've done something right with Sawyer, so Heavenly Father decided to let us have another one of his special spirits. So far, this pregnancy has been totally different, but not as bad as others that I know, so I can't complain too much. Plus, when we have tried for so long to get pregnant, it doesn't feel like I have the right to complain. I just try to remember what my mom says, "As long as your still feeling sick, that means that you are still pregnant. Just be grateful."
This ultrasound is from our 10 week appointment. We won't find out if it's a boy or girl until Sept. 20th.
I think the neatest thing about this baby is what Sawyer told us before we even found out that we were pregnant. The story goes like this...Scott and I were reading this article about celebrity baby names. We were laughing and joking when Sawyer, who was sitting on the floor playing, chimed in, "We're gonna have a baby. It's a girl. Her name is Aalynn." (Not sure how we would spell it if we use it.) We had never even heard that name before, so we looked it up, and sure enough, it is a real name. It still took us a couple of weeks to build up the nerve to take a pregnancy test. When you have taken so many, it is no longer fun. When we got the +, it was unbelievable...no really...I went back into the bathroom an hour later and took another test. We are still a little in shock, it has been a long wait.
Everyone in the family thinks it is a girl (probably because of Sawyer's prediction)...I will update as soon as we know.

He's 3! He is smart, funny, polite, and very tall for his age (he is in the 98th percentile for his height.) It still amazes me that I am allowed to be a mama to this special person.
For his birthday we had cupcakes a couple of times. The first time was a few days before his birthday at a house that Scott's Aunt Kathy was house-sitting. We had gold doubloon cupcakes and other pirate treasures. He had a hard time blowing out the candles, he blows through his teeth, it was cute to watch though. Plus, I accidentally got magic candles, so they would relight when he would finally get them blown out. Now before you say, "Yeah, right, you 'accidentally' got magic candles, sure Rachel..." it really was an accident. Let me explain... We went to the party store to get the plates and decorations and I let Sawyer pick out which candles he wanted. The first package he handed to me had "MAGIC Candles" written really big across the top. I told him that we should pick another package because those ones were "tricky candles." He put them back and we looked a few rows down and found another package that had similar candle colors and decided to get those. It wasn't until the candles started relighting that I realized they were ALSO "tricky candles." I was so mad! When we got home, I looked at the package and sure enough, up in the top corner, in small lettering, were the words "magic candles." It didn't even dawn on me to look closely since the other package had the word MAGIC written in large lettering across the top of the package, where the package that we ended up buying had CANDLES written in the same place. OK...OK...I'm done venting...calming down now...breathe... Needless to say that next time I will be looking VERY carefully at the entire package. Here are some pics of the fun...

The next time was on his actual birthday and Grananna brought him a cupcake. We decided to do the candle thing again. He still had a hard time, if you watch the candles somehow relight (I promise, they weren't "tricky candles" this time,) but he eventually got them out. I was relieved because I thought he was going to hyperventilate!
Then he got to dig in.
He said to us today, "I'm tired of being little, I want to be big." It was so cute, but also made me a little sad. I want him to be able to be a kid for as long as he can. I want for him to enjoy every minute, because it goes by way too fast, for all of us. He is amazing and I'm so grateful to have him in my life and to be able to call him mine. We love our Soybean and can't wait to see him grow and learn this next year.

When I finally sat down to update, I realized that we have been horrible about taking pictures with our regular camera. We have taken lots on our phones, but can't find the connector to upload them onto the computer. So here are a few things that we actually have photos of...
Sawyer sleeping in his big-boy bed.
Scott's dad came to visit so we documented the event. It had been too long since we had seen him and had fun catching up. This is Dustin, Sofia, Reed, Sawyer, and Scott.
We went to Michigan for Christmas. It was a fun two weeks of catching up, being lazy, and visiting friends. This is a picture of my brother's cat Calista sleeping on one of the quilts that I made my parents.

Just before Star Wars went on vacation from our house, we got Sawyer and Scott reenacting a scene. Sawyer puts his own twist on the ending though.
Sawyer loves taking pictures of everything. We have tons of pictures of various blankets, feet, walls, and carpet. This is one that we took together.

Sawyer was a lot of fun on Easter Morning. He is probably one of the worst 'lookers' though. Plus, all he wanted to do was open the eggs to see what was inside. He is a candyholic just like his father!
I couldn't resist putting this next conversation on the blog. It's funny to see his little mind working.
My parents drove out in June for a visit. Sawyer was in prime 'show-off' mode for the first few days. Here he is 'rocking out' on his guitar.
He then took a picture of Pop-pop taking a turn.
Pop-pop and Sawyer were so fun to watch. They played cars, read books, 'tinged' swords, and lots of other stuff. They even took a few naps together.
Overall, it has been a fun few months. Now that I'm on a break from school, I get to spend a lot of time with the boys. There are a lot of changes coming soon, so we are trying to enjoy this summer as much as we can. I will try to be better about taking pictures and updating in the next few weeks. When we find the connector, I will update again!
