Christmas Day!

Ahh, Christmas Morning. It just doesn't get better than this! As I mentioned in the previous post, these crazy kids had a pretty wild night on Christmas Eve, but everyone woke up happy and excited to see that their presents were all still there, despite many threats uttered during the night. Lol. Grandma and Grandpa Johnson came over to join us as usual, which we love.
Of course the kids all knew that Santa had brought them each a Huggables animal for their stockings. They told us all about them in the wee hours of the night.
I love this pic of the typical Christmas chaos. Oh, and want to play a fun game? See how many pictures Dasher's butt is in. I swear he's in almost all of them...
Harry was perfectly content with the chocolate he discovered in his stocking.
He was also pretty pleased with the Jeep that Santa brought for him and Graham!
The kids all draw names to buy each other gifts. It's so fun to see what they pick for each other and to see their excitement when they give their gifts.
Sometimes the givers are far more excited than the receivers! Haha!
Santa brought Penelope a darling new dollhouse.
Wyatt and Lucy both got these cool RC dinosaurs from the Big Man.
Of course Dasher wasn't forgotten about.
Graham got more Legos! This kid LOVES to play Legos and will keep himself happy for hours. HOURS. I get an excellent return on my investment with these suckers!
Waiting patiently for her turn to open a present.
More waiting.
I love the faces on this one! Penelope was so excited for this one. I can't even remember what it was called...oh, a Pomsie. Yes. She loved this one.
She played with it for a couple of days at least. ;)
Wyatt got a sweet new electronic chess game. We may or may not have had some fights over who's turn it was to play...
And Lucy's big gift from her parents was a locking cabinet FULL of everything needed to make just about any kind of slime. Ugh. This was a hard one for me to swallow, but every time I asked her what she wanted she'd tell me three things: a puppy, a phone, or a slime kit. I figured I could make one of those dreams come true. The locking cabinet was the ONLY way I could concede on this one. She was ecstatic.
Sweet little Harry didn't really care much for anything other than his treats. We had to force him to open presents and by the end the kids just did it for him. Haha.
Another great gift...train tracks. Graham got some pretty cool new pieces.
Wyatt got tickets to go see The Wizard of Oz with mom and dad.
And the girls got tickets to go see Wicked with all the aunties and girl cousins.
The boys got a cute tool set that lasted less than a week, but was really cute while it lasted!
See the leaf blower in mid-fall? This would be why it didn't last very long!
Spencer's brother Alex just adores Harry and bought him several little gifts, including a baby boom speaker for him to carry around and listen to his music. Hahaha! He absolutely loves music and this little speaker is just perfect! It has a little carabiner so we can hook it right up to him. He loves it probably more than any other gift. Possibly even more than his treats. :)
Not sure what Graham was upset about here, but he quickly perked up once we got out on the road.
It was so darn funny to watch Harry get whiplashed every time Graham hit the gas! Aren't they the cutest in their little hand knit hats from our sweet neighbor??
We had a wonderful Christmas day. We spent lots of time playing games and checking out all the fun new toys. We spent the evening at Grandma and Grandpa Johnson's again and then let the kiddos sleep under the Christmas tree that night, as per tradition.

Christmas Eve

We love our traditions on Christmas Eve.  We always go to breakfast at Jim's Family Restaurant--the kids look forward to it all year. This year after breakfast we decided to go bowling and had tons of fun doing that, although if we do that again I want to get everyone cute socks to open. Another family did that and I thought it was such a cute idea! Even though I forgot to take pics, we all had a great time. Then it was back home for some last minute preparations before the annual Christmas Eve festivities at Grandma and Grandpa Johnson's. We never vary the routine much and love it that way. The kids are always filled with anticipation and it is just so fun to be all together. It was especially sweet this year knowing that Grandma and Grandpa Johnson will be on their mission next Christmas! We soaked it all in.
After the Nativity we played a couple games and then took advantage of the kids' willingness to go home early so Santa could come. :) They hustled into their jammies, we read our Night Before Christmas book, said prayers, set out cookies for Santa, put candles by beds, and tucked everyone in. Everyone but Harry thought it would be a swell idea to sleep down in the toyroom together, and we decided to let them. DUHHHHH. They went to sleep quickly (long enough for Santa to come and go without getting caught!), but they were up somewhere around 2am ready to go! They snuck upstairs and took a good peek at everything and when Spencer went out to investigate found out that they had been playing the Wii!! Lol. And not just for minutes either...we're talking hours! We hauled them all up to our bedroom and forced them to get a couple more hours of sleep. Stinkers.

The Sunday Before Christmas

My kids complain bitterly, but someday they will be grateful that I forced them to take so many darling pictures. Amiright? The Sunday before Christmas is always one of my favorites. The choir usually sings some beautiful numbers and the spirit is so strong as we focus on the real reason for Christmas. I love it. Plus look how adorable.
We can't wait for Christmas!

The Weekend Before Christmas

Uncle Alex's company rented a theater for the premiere of Mary Poppins Returns and he got tickets for all the Haymond families to join him. It was so fun! We took up a couple of reeeeally long rows of seats and the show was super cute.
On Friday morning, we spent a couple hours at Smith's in Draper ringing the Salvation Army bell. We've done this for several years now and are getting better and better. It takes some doing to keep the kids interested in ringing the bell for two whole hours, but it's so good for them and we love doing it.
On Saturday we had tickets with many of the Haymonds to go to the Utah Symphony Here Comes Santa Claus concert. It's short and sweet and I love exposing the littlest of kids to the symphony.

Temple Square

We did Temple Square right this year except for one thing...I forgot my good camera!!! Duh! It actually turned out to be quite nice, haha. Spencer's fancy phone camera takes pretty good pics, so we were still able to document our night. We headed downtown early on Tuesday the 18th. I think we left right after kids came home from school. We wanted to have plenty of time to visit the Giving Machine. We gave two chickens, a couple jump ropes, and some baby hats I think. It was pretty cool.
Grandma and Grandpa met up with us and we headed outside just before 5. We were on the east end of Temple Square when we saw a security guy whip out his phone promptly at 5:00 and switch the lights on! We thought it was amazing. Haha.
It was so great to be there early. The lighting was great for pictures (too bad I didn't have my big camera!) and the place was nearly empty. I gotta remember to do it this way every year.
It would also be nice if everyone were happy every year, but the stars can't always align for us.
We managed to get a cute pic of each kid smiling and appearing to be having a good time.
We even made Grandma and Grandpa pose for a couple pics. Now I know where my kids get their aversion to the camera. It's 100% from my mother.
We ate dinner at the Nauvoo Cafe, then saw the candy windows at Macy's on our way to the van. We were home and in bed by 8.
A pretty perfect night!
