{ what works for me }

I started a new approach to working my program just to see what would happen. As you know I've been having the up and down progress that is so frustrating in life. I decided to end my eating time at 7pm each night, drinking only water from then to bedtime.

The first days are SOOOO hard as you experience that little nagging feeling that you need just a small bowl of cereal before bed. It's a hard habit to break after pregnancy where you HAVE to eat often.

The results were instant on the scale and continued to be pleasantly surprising as the days went by. I ate to the plan, using my points and enjoying my favorites. Then at 7pm, the kitchen was closed. When I felt hungry I would drink a huge glass of icy water.

The weigh in was beautiful! 3.4 down! Woohoo!

This week I ended up eating late several nights. I lost .4 this week despite those late nights. The very best part was losing something two weeks in a row, something I haven't enjoyed for months.

Little things make a big difference. What works for you?

{ take THAT!! }

It worked! 2.5 pounds down after a focused week!

Things that helped:

- Writing down everything I ate.

- Breaking out the baby carrots or bell pepper strips when I'm feeling snacky.

- Planning my meals for the week and posting it on the fridge.

Things that did not help:

- Long workdays from the hubs leaving no time for me away from the kids.

- WW snacks and ice creams costing SO much! I just can't spend $5 on a box of fudge bars! Boo!

Nevertheless I was successful! Now to keep myself from resting too easy and backsliding. Thanks for the cheers!

{ she shoots, she...totally biffs it... }

Good news! If you're struggling to lose weight, my sorry month will make you feel better about yourself.
Now for the bad news. That pound I lost last week? I found it again. Ugh! Unfortunately many of you know just how that feels. For me it was a wakeup call. Like: Hello! How long ya gonna pay to lose and gain the same two pounds? I mean really.
Usually the despair of gaining makes for less than positive choices the remainder of the day. This week I was kind of done with the game, so I just buckled down. This week I am planning out my food day ahead of schedule, I've loaded my fridge with fresh fruit and veggies and I am writing EVERYTHING down.
Planning on a good week. We'll see how it goes.

{ start now }

Each week seems to have it's unique ebb and flow. Some are frenetic, others easy going; but I can guarantee there are few "perfect" weeks for losing weight. We have to be ready for whatever life throws us and it sure has a good arm!

This week was a good one despite numerous stumbling blocks. What made the difference: starting in the moment. Let me explain:

We've all been in that place, teeth encrusted with oreo goo, drips of Frosty on our favorite T-shirt, another piece of Grandma's best Apple pie on our plate fork poised to dive in. We've officially taken a nose dive off the wagon. Many times our indulgences come after a relatively good day or even week. Then the mental chatter begins. "Just have another and start again tomorrow." Ahh, sweet tomorrow. Much better than next week, but still so far away and so much damage to be done between now and then. Oh, and just remember we never know what tomorrow will bring, especially as Superparents with little ones to keep things interesting.

This week I had such an afternoon. I'd grabbed a handful of this and some of that. I started to feel like I'd wasted an entire day of good eating and the mantra, "Well, just start again tomorrow because today is a loss..." started going.

It was then, as I reached for another handful of potato chips that the inspiration came: Forget about the last fifteen minutes, what you did yesterday or last week. START NOW!

It's when we toss the baggage of old defeats and focus on what we can do RIGHT NOW that we can find true success. That light bulb moment helped me switch a negative into a positive in two seconds. It affected the remainder of my week and led me to success.

So give it a try. START NOW!!

{ been busy }

I've had the distinct pleasure of being Super busy these last 12 weeks. I'm in the most wonderful kind of heaven as the mother of four little Super kiddos. I am loving my sweet little baby boy. Nothing really prepares you for the overflow of love you feel for each new member of your family. I ADORE him!

I am NOT loving the leftovers of pregnancy...including more than a few errant pounds that forgot they were supposed to melt away when the baby was born. Ha ha! My body has some trouble with the subtle hints. :)

Of course, I know this about myself. Instead of sitting on my couch munching Teddy Grahams for the first six months, I started right to work. I signed back up with Weight Watchers...promptly lost two pounds and managed to gain 'em right back. But I am learning how to work the program in a way that works for me, especially while I am nursing. I'll be keeping you posted on my increasing inner wisdom (ha ha!) and look forward to hearing from YOU too! Hope you're all rockin' it like a Supergirl.

{ Walking Again }

It's been a while since my initial announcement post. Despite my best intentions, nausea made for very poor eating habits. I don't know what it is about feeling miserable that makes you turn to foods of any kind that will comfort you. Maybe old habits. I kept running, though shorter distances, for about the first 6 weeks. But exercise combined with the initial exhaustion of baby growing made it difficult to keep it up. It's only now, after the overabundance of the holidays, that I feel that familiar itch to get outside and get moving. I have no complaints. Every pregnancy is different and in my opinion, you have to go with what works for you.

For the last three days I have been working in a morning walk each day. I only walk about a mile. For some reason, my lower belly starts having sharp pains when I walk. I don't know if it stems from the surgery I had earlier last year or just the general loosening of ligaments and stuff that comes with pregnancy. But I have noticed, with regular exercise, even in just three days, I have less pain each time, and I can go faster. It feels so good to get out into the cool winter air and move my body. I have REALLY missed running and being able to move like I did before. AND putting on the initial weight of having a baby has been a little discouraging. Mentally, I know it's part of the process, but after being so focused on losing for so long, it was hard to make the switch.

I've decided to begin posting again as I work to exercise through the remainder of my pregnancy. I won't be focusing on weight at all, but on being healthy and happy. Any ideas, recipes or thoughts from you, pregnant or not, will be most appreciated. I hope the new year is finding you full of energy to make positive changes.

{ Super Baby! }

I know you've been wondering...anxious...concerned that I've not only fallen off the wagon, but perhaps escaped with some fancy chocolatier to France to live the life of a cocoa bean addict. Well put you're sweet little hearts at ease. While the last few weeks have not been easy, they have involved very little chocolate.
The good news is, my sweetie and I are expecting a darling little Super Baby early next year. This didn't come as a surprise. In fact, I knew it was on the agenda, though I tried as hard as I could to eek out every last pound before falling from the face of the dieting planet. Gone are the fun five miles runs and counting points. I am lucky to get my tuckus out of bed and scarf down some kind of nourishment before the nausea hits. Well, at least I was in the beginning. Things have mellowed out quite a bit, thank goodness. It was only in those moments of extreme discomfort that I wished for super powers to pummel whoever devised the term "morning" sickness. Is there anyone on the planet who only experiences it in the morning? I'm sure there are, and I don't hate you. I even feel a blush of shame complaining when I think of friends who truly have the worst of it, from IVs to daily meds that barely keep them from walking around with the light tinge of green to their skin. Bless you sisters!
Now that I am feeling better for the most part, I can actually think about what I am eating, schedule in some walks and begin planning for a new little person in our family. I'm super excited.
So...the bad news is that this blog may be less than motivating in regards to losing weight for a little while since I've definitely left that in the past for the time being. But the good news is that it doesn't last forever, and I'll be right back on track. I promise to post now and then, especially if I can get back to working out at all and give you some motivational pregnancy tips. Until then, thanks for the support, my friends. Keep working hard and pushing yourself to new heights. You've all been, well, SUPER. Lots of love!
