Christmas!

We were out late at the Selby's the night before, so Christmas morning we all slept in and were awaken by the doorbell. Grammy, Grandpa and Uncle Dan were at the door! I had told them to come over at 8am since the kids usually wake up around 6:30 or 7. It never crossed my mind they would sleep in so late, especially Isaiah! It worked out perfect, though, because they got to to be a part of the whole Christmas morning tradition. Brian made the best cinnamon rolls yet, they turned out amazing! We stayed in our pajamas playing with all our new toys until dinner over at Grammy and Grandpa's. Ashley gave a special surprise. She stood on her chair at dinner and read her bible verse for us before prayers. Aunt Bonnie, Uncle Al, Adam and Lucas were over there too and we had a wonderful Christmas evening together.
Reading Santa's letter he left for them.  The reindeer left a big mess in the font yard this year.  They must have been in a hurry to get to the next house.

Ashley got a keyboard this year.  I think Santa heard how well she learned "Happy Birthday" on the Saliba's keyboard and thought she might like one.  Now she's added "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"

Papa and Isaiah made this manger while he was off work for the week.  Ashley got to decorate the bedding and couldn't wait to put baby Jesus in it Christmas morning.

Christmas Eve

I had to work Christmas Eve, but got off early to go to Grammy and Grandpa's church for the children's mass. The kids favorite part was when they turned out the lights and we sang "Silent Night," which Ashley had learned in school and sang along to. After church we went to the Selby's for their traditional Bouillabaisse. It was great to see friends we hadn't seen in a while. I was really proud of the kids. They sat through 2 hours of church and were tired, but very polite and well behaved at dinner that night. Bouillabaisse is a seafood soup that stains, so the kids needed to be on their best behavior at the dinner table and they did great!

Christmas Lights

Night Hawk alarm company near Damascus puts on this light display and adds a new display every year. I had read up on it and we decided to check it out. We were impressed! There were light displays covering every inch of the building and grounds, snow falling from the roof, a light display on the ground and a life size Santa dancing and singing Christmas carols. Plus they give out candy canes!

Saliba's visit

It was a special treat to have the Saliba's visit on their way to see Danielle's Mom for Christmas. The kids had a ton of fun playing, D and I had a great time catching up and the boys had fun cooking in the kitchen including a traditional "Beef Wellington"one night!
Sawyer sat so still ( playing his guitar of course) while Isaiah pretended to cut his hair.

Kindergarten Sing a Long

Ashley's class did a Christmas sing a long where the families were invited to listen to the kids sing Christmas carols and have hot chocolate and cookies. The kids worked so hard for two weeks learning the songs and did a great job. They even did motions to the words and all. At the end they recited their memory verse they've been practicing too, it was really cute to watch!

Puppet Show with Grammy

Grammy took the kids to a puppet show "the Shoemaker and the Elves". They got to make puppets before the show and had a great time. I love this picture of them!

Limo ride

We booked a limo ride for Grammy's 60th birthday and drove around town to look at Christmas lights. We went through Portland International raceway and I guess since we were in a limo we got VIP and bypassed the huge line... score! Then we drove around downtown drinking hot chocolate and got our Christmas picture by the tree in Pioneer Square. I grabbed my purse in case the kids wanted their gloves and set it down to take the picture. Unfortunately I didn't realize I forgot it until we got onto I-84 on our way home. The driver was awesome and got on the phone to Starbuck's right next to Pioneer Square and someone very nice person had turned it in! I felt so fortunate that no one had taken it. Christmas came a little early for me this year.

Home Depot Workshop

We finally got to check out the Home Depot workshop that we've seen advertized. It was a great family event and the kids had a ton of fun. They made tic tac toe boards, which they got to hammer together from a kit and then paint. I didn't realize, but you get a pin to put on your Home Depot apron for every project you make. Some of these kids had 20+ pins.

Going to see Santa

Isaiah and I picked up Ashley from school on Friday and headed to the mall to see Santa. He had seen Santa earlier in the week and got to tell him what he wanted for Christmas, but a few days after that he remember that he forgot to ask for socks! Boy was he excited that he was going to be able to see Santa again and ask for them. I thought this was so cute because when we went to Fred Meyer for their black Friday sale to get socks, we weren't able to find any his size that would have worked. He figured it out on his own that if we weren't going to get his socks, then what better guy to ask them for than Santa!

Thanksgiving

Brian was on call for Thanksgiving, so everyone contributed in making a successful holiday dinner and it was delicious! We went around the table to tell what we were thankful for. The theme seemed to be family this year and how blessed we are to be able to come together and celebrate. Friday Steph, the kids and I took on the Fred Meyer black Friday sale for the first time. Our family was in need of socks and it sounded like a fun activity while Brian was at work and the Grandpa's were golfing. Whew, it was crowded and I could probably find the same deals somewhere else, but it was kind of a fun way to get in the mood for Christmas. You definitely have to prepare yourself for it, though. Friday night we headed over to Grammy and Grandpa's for another turkey dinner with Bonnie and Al, then Saturday and Sunday we pulled out the Christmas decorations and got the house looking all festive. We were kind of on a time crunch since we were hosting my holiday party the next weekend, so it was great to get it all done but also to enjoy it longer! We also found a little time to build our gingerbread houses. The kids were a huge help this year adding beautiful trees to the yard and lots of candy and ideas to the house.

So thankful for the love and support of these guys.  We are blessed with an amazing family.

Reese!

Baby Reese was born Oct 27th. It was a long wait, but we got up to Seattle to meet her in the middle of November. She is such a sweet baby and the Saliba's are doing amazing with the transition. It was great to be up there just to relax and enjoy good company. We all got our cuddles in, but wish we had more. They're going to stay with us before Christmas and we already can't wait! Sawyer is growing up so much too. We only saw them a few months ago, but he's talking a ton and in French! For such a little guy, he has a huge personality. Hani speaks fluently to him and he's really catching on. Kind of hard to picture a 2 year old speaking French, but it's absolutely adorable! The Powell's came over on Saturday and the kids had fun playing and making turkey hats that Danielle had all set up for them to put together. They're kids are also getting so big!

6!

It always takes me so long to write these yearly posts because I want to document everything about you at this age, it goes by way too fast. Of course that's impossible, but here's my best attempt :) As you get older, I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I do. We just love you to pieces, Ashley, you bring such joy to our lives and we appreciate the positive influence you have on your brother and everyone who meets you. You're respectful, curious, kind, thoughtful, and so sweet. Isaiah looks up to you so much and wants to do the all the things you're doing. Your patience and eagerness to teach him is much appreciated. You look forward to going to Kindergarten every day and come home excited to share what you've learned. You enjoy sitting down at the counter to do your homework while we cook dinner. While it takes some kids the whole week to complete, you're done in one sitting and Isaiah is right by your side curious as to what you're learning. He has his crayons and "homework" to do too. If given free time at school or home your choice is to draw or color, you also love puzzles. I often wonder if you'll be an artist some day, I always wanted to be one. You're learning to read very well this year and have a lot of patience with it. When you come across a word you don't know you use the pictures to help you guess, but when that doesn't work you sound it out and don't get frustrated. I think this personality trait is a huge advantage for you. We started your first chapter book (one of the American girl books) and when we ask you what the story is about you impress me with your memory and the amount of detail you recall. You've learned to jump rope in school and love to run. I have a feeling you'll get into track when you're older. You tried a soccer class at the community center, but it wasn't really your thing, especially when we told you it's normally an outdoor sport and most likely will have to play in the rain. So, we're going back to dance and you'll start a tap class in January and maybe start ballet again. Your good friends from school are Olivia, Makenna, Abby, and Elizabeth. You still have a very unique sense of style and love to plan your outfit every day. You're ideal outfit is something cozy, pink or purple, sparkly, layered, and two or more pairs of socks. You have narrow feet just like GG, so I think the extra layer helps fill in the gaps. You still love to pack things in bags. I often have to go through them to find something that's been missing for a while. I can't blame you, though, I did that when I was younger too. In fact, I still do and it kind of makes me smile that I can see a little of me in you! This year you re-joined the TEDDY study. We left the decision to you and you did it on your own time. You wanted to help diabetes research, but needed time to be more brave. You weren't up for the blood draw yet, but you did ok with the finger prick test after many weeks of talking and explaining how it was all going to work. The promise of gifts in the mail helped a little. You were also compensated a small amount for participating, so with that and your birthday money you opened up your own checking account with Papa. You haven't lost any teeth, but kids at school have, so there has been a lot of talk about the "Tooth Fairy". We took you to the orthodontist a few months ago to see how best to correct your underbite. Preparing for the worst, we talked to you a lot about braces and how cool they were because you get to pick your own color rubber bands. When they told you all you might need is a retainer in a few years, you were a little disappointed. With the pain you've been having waiting for your 6 year molars to come in, I'm not sure you were ready to handle braces anyways. Pain is one thing you don't do very well with. I'm sure you'll remember how often we tell you to be tough so when the time comes when you're really hurt, we won't just brush it off. You're growing up so much, I'm hesitant and excited to see what the next year brings. If it were up to me, I would keep you little forever!

Ashley's birthday

I had so much fun planning Ashley's party this year, Pinterest was a huge help! We decided to do a jewelry party where each of her friends could make a bracelet to take home. To start off the party we had "bling" pages to color while we waited for everyone to arrive, this is one of Ashley's favorite things to do so she got on it right away. Then we split them up into 3 groups where my Mom, Steph, Becki and I helped them make their bracelets. It was a riot to see the concentration and the room was so quiet... with 11, 6 year olds, that was impressive! Her friends are all so sweet and polite, though, I shouldn't have been too surprised. After the bracelet making, they got to make an ice cream sundae and frost a cookie. There was major sugar overload, but that's supposed to happen at a birthday party, right!? After dessert Ashley opened her gifts and the girls got to play and show off their bracelets while we waited for their parents to arrive. Ashley was giddy and smiley all day, just the way it should be for the birthday girl! After her friend party we had the family over for dinner and opened more gifts. She was very gracious and made sure everyone got a hug and "thank you" after each gift :) Tuesday was her actual birthday and guess where she decided to go.... Red Robbin! The kids love that place.

I hung her balloons from the party in her door so when she woke up on her birthday, she would have to cross through them.  She ducked!
