Trip to Flagstaff

I took a trip to Flagstaff this weekend to go to a craft fair and visit some family. The first picture is a quilt I started in High School. I finished in college and last month my aunt Brenda had it quilted for me. It is quilted with large and small stars. It is beautiful. I is sideways in teh picture. I didn't really want it so I am letting her sell it. Most people would probably think I am crazy but I am not that sentimental, I would rather have someone else enjoy it.
The second picture is my cousin Sheryl. She lived with us for 3 years while I was in High School. She goes to school at a boarding school in Flagstaff and is a cheerleader. She seems to be doing really good. Sorry I look dumb in the picture my mom doesn't know how to count to 3 and take a picture.

Coupling Weekend

Martin and I are too cheap to pay for cable and basic comes with our house. We do have our computer hooked up to our TV, which is a bonus for us. We use the computer to watch movies and shows off of NetFix instant watch. This past weekend we didn't feel like doing anything so we stayed at home and watched all 4 seasons of Couplings. It was so much fun and it is such a great show. It is a slightly more scandalous version of Friends. If you get a chance you should check it out but don't watch the American version the British version is much better.

Desert Botanical Gardens

Here are some pictures I took at the Desert Botanical Garden. They have new glass sculptures scattered throughout, I would definitely recommend a trip. The sculptures are amazing.

Charlotte's Room

Here is a picture of Charlotte's room at the new house. On the opposite wall there is a dresser, changing table and shelf. I am thinking of hanging one of her round lights above the rocking chair, I am not digging the circles on the wall but they will do for now. She may be getting a new rocking chair that will match her crib much better.

Zee in New House

The cats love the new house. It has so many built in ledges for them to play on. Zee's favorite spot is half way up the stairs. Also today Zee got locked outside. They never go outside because they are scared-ee-cats. It was funny because I was yelling at her to stop scratching the door and then I looked and she was outside.

Change is on its way!

Winning by 202 electoral votes is quite a blow out! I am so excited to have a young motivated energetic president. I am also hopeful for our future. He is paving the way for a woman to one day lead our country (hopefully a qualified one, not Palin). This election has reminded me that votes do count (not mine, I live in AZ lol) and that our country is not so bad after all.

For those of you that fear the future of our country remember:
"The key to change....is to let go of fear."

I am most excited for the new puppy in the white house!!! I wonder what breed it will be or if it will be a rescue pup!

I wanted to add this I thought it was interesting!

I heart my G1

So I have wanted an iPhone forever. I am totally a mac girl. I have a 27" iMac and love every inch of it. But I never wanted to spend the money and didn't know if I could stand a touch screen and no keyboard. My nerdy husband pre-ordered a G1. I didn't believe him that a phone could be so awesome. It is similar to an iPhone but has a full keyboard. After playing around with it I decided I needed one. I am absolutely in love with it! If you are in the market for a new phone you need one!

Thank you baby Martin!

Wedding in New Mexico

Tyson & Emma

My Dad and Charlotte

Charlotte and I Dancing

Ginger and I

Martin, Charlotte and I

This weekend my step bother Tyson got married to Emma. The wedding was at a Bed and Breakfast on the out skirts of Albuquerque. We had a blast. Somehow my brother in law talked Martin into going to law school over the weekend. Crazy boys never listen to there wives. I have been telling Martin he would make a great lawyer ever since I met him.

Here are some pictures from the wedding. I took like 250 total pictures. It was so frustrating because I only brought a 50 mm lens with me and somehow I got nominated to be the photographer, because they didn't hire one. I tried my best but there is only so much you can do with one lens and no tripod.

Baby Advice to My Future Self

1. Buy newborn clothes. Charlotte only had like 3 newborn outfits and her first month she was not a stylish baby.

2. Use NB Pampers the other brands have issues. Once she is out of the NB diapers use Kirkland brand they are a good deal and will last until she 15 lbs.

3. Pampers Sensitive wipes are the softest.

4. Breastfeeding is a pain! Use cream, storage bags, jell packs and breast pads.

5. Wide neck bottle work best!

6. Mam pacifiers seem to do the trick. Try to buy the 0-2 month ones they are smaller.

7. Get a detachable car seat!

8. Play yards are the best ever!

9. Keep extra pacifiers in the car, for emergencies.

10. Don't leave the house with out extra clothes.

11. Keep extra everything in the car!

If you want to add to the list just comment and I will add it.

Catalina Island

On the boat

Right off the boat

This past weekend we went to Catalina Island for my Sister Ginger's Birthday. It was a ton of fun. It was chilly near the coast but more inland it was beautiful weather. Charlotte did great. She is the best baby ever.

New Home!

Yay! We signed the final paper work and get the keys tomorrow. We are so excited. Our new house on Power and Pecos in Power Ranch. It is super cool inside. All the door ways are arches, it has two tone paint, the kitchen has granite counter tops, and stainless steal appliances. The best thing about it is in the end we only paid $350 to start living in it, so now we can use some of our saved money on furniture and upgrades. We got a 30 yr FHA at 6%...not bad! I will post some more pictures once we get settled. So probably not for like month. LOL.

Etsy Store

Many of you already know that I sew. I have had an Etsy store for a while now but didn't want to post about it until I had more inventory. So far I don't have much but it will continue to grow. I am also participating in a craft show on November 8 called The Tattered Trunk Boutique. So if you like homemade stuff go check it out. Below is a link to the store and I also have a link on right side of my blog.

Finally Found Me!

My husband is a nerd of the nerdiest variety. One day I was going through boxes and found his Magic the Gathering card collection. Fortunately he no longer collects the cards. But he still keeps up with the latest MTG internets. So I always ask him if I was a character which one would I be. Finally after 2 years he has found me.

I breastfeed Charlotte so Martin has decided that this is Charlotte's character.

OBAMA

I am not a democrat or republican. I am not into politics at all. This video has turned me into an Obama supporter! I feel like our country needs change. I don't feel like McCain is going to bring the change our country needs right now.

Misquitos Suck!

I have 31 mosquito bites that I know of. I am going insane. I have anti-itch cream but it isn't helping. I don't want to get scars all over from scratching. UGH

Computer!

Me and Charlotte spend many hours in the computer chair updating blogs for my sister Ginger. As you can see my hair isn't as cute as the hair dresser styled it. I can't get it to look sheek like she did. I guess I just need to learn to use a round brush. I just don't think I can do it!

Daiper Cake for Katie

I made this cute diaper cake out of Charlotte's left over NB diapers. It was funny because I had all the materials lying around...I have too much craft stuff! Charlotte took it over to Katie's to welcome her home from the hospital. Our good friends Travis and Melissa had a new baby, Katie.

Night Out

Sunday night we went out for the first time since October of last year. Martin's friend Willy was in town from Cali so we met him at the Big Bang. It was nice to get away, especially after this crazy week. Grandma and Grandpa watched Charlotte. Charlotte slept the entire time we were out. She is such a good baby! I got a new hair cut...it will never look this cute again. I am horrible at styling my hair.

Horrible Week!

So this week started off ok. Martin working, Charlotte eating-pooping-sleeping, and me kinda not feeling so good. Monday after work Martin got home and was super tired so he took a nap. He woke up around 6 p.m. and told me he had a stomach ache. I tried to give him Tums, Pepto Bismol and Tylenol but he didn't want anything. I had kinda been achy so I headed for bed around 11 p.m. Martin came to bed a little bit later. About 1 a.m. Martin wakes me up and says his stomach hurt worse and proceeded to lie in the fetal position on the bedroom floor. We both decided we needed to go get things checked out. I was nervous about taking Charlotte to the emergency room but Martin's pain was slowly getting worse and worse. We decided to go to the ER. Luckily we live right across the street from a hospital.

We arrived at the hospital, they admitted him, and started treating him. The doctor ordered a cat scan and started him on pain killers. He suspected kidney stones or appendicitis. The cat scan came back clear of kidney stones and no signs of an infected appendix. But since Martin's pain had moved from the left to the right side of the stomach and it had slowly increase with intensity, he was pretty sure it was his appendix. Now we were waiting for the surgeon. In the meantime I felt achy, exhausted and only have a horrible chair sit in while holding Charlotte.

That morning Martin headed back to surgery for an appendectomy. He was only in surgery about an hour. Everything went well and he slept for a while after the surgery. One of the nurses could see how exhausted I was so she wheeled a bed into the room for me to get some rest. I was so thankful for the bed. Martin's dad stopped by to bring me diapers, food and relieve me from holding Charlotte for a bit. My dad stopped by to feed me and hold Charlotte. That night Martin's mom flew in from Indiana to help me out and be with Martin. Martin seemed to be doing great that evening. He was walking around and eating.

That night I went home to sleep and then came back around 2 am. Martin was suppose to come home the next morning. Martin woke up said he had a head ache and was really sensitive to light. He felt much worse than he did the night before. For some reason we were talking about Martin being allergic to penicillin and his mom mentioned that he was also allergic to another antibiotic. She thought it started with an L. I was curious so I went to ask the nurses what antibiotic he was receiving. It was Levaquin. We immediately freaked out. Martin's mom called his doctor to confirm Levaquin was the antibiotic and I called the pharmacy. Yup it was Levaquin. It turns out he isn't allergic he just experiences some severe side effects from the antibiotic.

That afternoon the doctor came in. Martin told him about his symptoms he was experiencing and the doctor took him of the Levaquin and gave him some fluids to flush the antibiotic out of his system. Martin decided to stay another night to make sure the antibiotic was out of him. That evening he was doing a lot better. Me on the other hand had taken a turn for the worst. Martin got up to go to the bathroom and walk and I felt like calapsing. I just laid on the bed while he was out walking. That is when I decided to go home. My dad and step mom were visiting so they came home with Charlotte and me. I decided to take my temperature when I got home, it was 102 degrees. I was also achy and had the chills. I was miserable. My dad and step mom stayed long enough to put Charlotte to sleep and then headed home. Martin's mom was at the hospital with him so I wasn't worried about him.

In the morning I was able to get a doctors appointment. I have Mastitis, a breast infection. I can't believe a breast infection can make you feel so horrible. Soon after I got home from the doctor Martin got released from the hospital and was home too.

Now that we are home and feeling better it is such a relief. It is crazy how everything seems to happen at once. I am just thankful Charlotte was so good this week and for all the help from our parents.

MIGA

Miga is my sister's Chihuahua. Miga's mom was my Chihuahua Estrella. Miga's dad was a stud. Miga has similar markings to her dad. Sometimes I miss my Chihuahuas Estrella and Lakai, I will never know what happen to them. Below are some pictures of her wearing the outfits I gave her.

Tucson Memories

This past weekend I took a day trip to Tucson to visit my granny. I wanted to post some childhood memories.

Sunshine Bugs

When we were small we use to play with these bugs all the time. I think my cousin Sunshine started playing with them when she was small so they got nicknamed "Sunshine Bugs." We use to try to collect as many as we could.

The Wash

This wash is right behind my granny's house. Beyond the wash there used to be miles of desert. During the monsoon season the wash would fill up with water and junk would float down it. I remember looking over her wall and watching a couch floating down. My granny throws bird seed out everyday. She used to have Javalinas that she would feed. The best part of the wash and dessert was the walks we use to take. Every afternoon! You can still walk down the wash but the desert is full of homes now :-(

Charlotte's Labor & Delivery

Caution: This post is going to be a long detailed account of my labor and delivery. I wanted to write everything before I forgot some of the details. Don't read if you are easily grossed out!

Pre-Labor
At 37 weeks gestation my cervix I was 3 cm dialted. The doctor told me that I could go into labor anytime but some people stay dilated for weeks at a time. I had been having contraction in the late evenings and early morning but nothing that intense. They mostly just felt like the baby stretching in all direction. At 38 weeks I was now 4 cm dialated. Martin and I kinda got our hopes up that I would go into labor that week, but it didn't happen. At week 39 I was still 4 cm dilated. The doctor decided that I was a good candidate to be induced and scheduled my induction for July 25. I was relieved that I was definitely going to have a baby at the end of week 39. I was done being pregnant! The doctor also predicted that Charlotte would weigh around 7 lbs and be long and thin.

Labor Begins
I started having contraction Thursday July 24 around 6 a.m. At fist I thought it was just a bad stomach ache but couldn't get back to sleep. Finally around 9 a.m. I woke up Martin and asked him to start timing the contractions. The contractions were about 1.5 minutes long and 5 minutes apart. These initial contractions weren't too intense but did hurt to walk and move around. We dcided to head for the hospital around 10:30 a.m. We arrived at to Triage around 11 a.m and I was hooked up to the monitors. The nurse determined that I was having contractions but wanted to see if my cervix would dilate more than 4 cm so she sent us on a walk. I was 90% effaced at this point. We walked around the hospital for about 45 minutes. At the end of the walk I was stopping every 20 feet because the contractions had become more painful. The nurse checked me agian and determined that I hadn't made any progress and she sent us home. I felt hopeless. The contractions were painful and they weren't doing anything....I was doomed. We went home and I tried to sleep. I had no luck sleeping, the labor pains were too uncomfortable. We decided to go back to the hospital at 6 p.m. when the nurses switched shifts.

Labor Continues
We arrive back at the hospital around 6 p.m. All the Triage rooms are full so we have to wait in the lounge for a room. I was really uncomfortable. Finally we get a room and the nurse checks me again. My cervix still wasn't dilated past 4 cm. by this time my contractions were so intense I was squeezing Martin's hands and a lemon Martin found in my purse. The nurse sent us on another walk. I couldn't even walk 10 feet before I was grabbing the railing and leaning over it. We decided to just sit in the lounge. The nurse checked me again and I was still just at 4 cm and 90% effaced. I started crying. The pain was intense and it wasn't doing anything. The nurse decided to call my doctor and see if she could send me home with pain killers. It just happened that my doctor was in the hospital. She told the nurse that she wanted me to stay and that she would break my water. Martin and I were so happy! I was so relived, there was an end in sight.

Labor>>>>Delivery
So with this news we just had to wait for a room to open up. The contraction were still pretty intense, I was squeezing my lemon and in the fetal position. We were transfered to the delivery room at 9:16 p.m. The nurse said we were lucky because we got the princess suite. The room was huge! The doctor came in and broke my water at 9:30 p.m. It didn't hurt at all and felt like warm pee. The doctor also said that my membrane was abnormally thick. After my water was broke the doctor ordered my epidural and the nurse hooked me up to an IV. You have to have 1 liter of fluid before you can get an epidural. Then the doctor and nurse both left. My contraction monitor wasn't working so the doctor kept messing with it but I don't think it ever worked right. My dad called and said he wanted to come say hello. While my dad was in the room my contractions started to become more and more intense and closer together. I was grabbing the bed and and pulling the rails. My dad left at about 9:45 p.m. Right after he left I rolled over to my side and had the fist contraction that felt like I needed to push. It was so painful! I told Martin to call the nurse. he thought I was crazy but he did. The nurse came in and checked me. This what she said, "I can't feel your cervix, I think you are at 8 cm. I am going to get your epidural right now." My doctor rushes in and I tell her it feels like I need to push. She checks me and says, "If it feels like you need to push then push." The pain is so horrible that everything is a little fuzzy from then on. I remember all of a sudden 2 nurses are in the room, one with a cart for the epidural and one with some other cart. During contractions the doctor tells me to push. The anesthesiologists appears from somewhere and the doctor tells him, "She is in active labor there is no time for the epidural is there anything local you can give her?" The anesthesiologist replies, "I could do a saddle blocker" The doctor turned asked me if I wanted it. I asked her how long the pain was gonna last. She replied, "It depends on you not me." I really didn't want to move or sit up because it hurt so bad that I tuned the saddle blocker down. After I turned it down I realized that my worst nightmare had come true....labor with no pain medication. My contraction monitor wasn't working so I had to tell the doctor and the nurse when I was having a contraction. In between the contraction the doctors and nurses were crazy organized. They broke apart the bed, suited up, and got carts of medical supplies ready. All I really remember is everyone telling me to push through my bottom and breath. I was having a really hard time breathing and kept throwing up and then having to swallow it. It was disgusting. They gave me a thing to spit in but I couldn't' push, breath and spit puke out. My only thought was "make this pain go away" I was willing to do whatever it took to stop the pain. Then I remember Martin saying, "She has black hair.....I can see her ears." Then I felt like I was gonna pass out so the doctor decided that she needed to cut me, I couldn't even feel the cut. The push right after the cut Charlotte came out! I looked at her and she was beautiful. The doctor put Charlotte on my chest. She wasn't even all goopy like I thought she would be. I looked down and Martin was cutting the umbilical cord. She arrived July 24 at 10:16 p.m. I was so relieved the pain was over I kinda forgot about why I was going through it all. I was also worried about the pain when the placenta came out but luckily my doctor just pulled it out. So now I had a baby a crying baby on my chest. Martin said I looked flabbergasted. Meanwhile the doctor was stitching me up and stuff was gooping out of me. Yuck! I couldn't believe I did it!

Aftermath
I was so shaky. I couldn't stop. They put like 4 heated blankets on top of me and kept bringing me juice. I just laid there and stared at Charlotte and shook. About 10 minutes after she was born they had me nurse her for the first time and surprisingly she knew exactly what to do.

Perfect 10
Right when Charlotte came out I remember the nurses and doctor commenting on how pink she was. I didn't know if that was good or bad. It is good. Charlotte ended up getting a 10 on her APGAR (Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, Response), the first 10 our nurse had ever given. She was so adorable, I remember he laying in the heater stretched out with her legs crossed and her arms over her head.

After carefully evaluated the negatives and positives of pregnancy and childbirth, I have decided it is well worth the pain and suffering. It is truly a life changing experience. I would do it all again in a heartbeat!

Passing Time

Charlotte is taking her time. I am so tired of waiting around for her to decide she wants to make an appearance. So in the mean time I have been trying to stay busy. I clean and sew. that is about it! I can't wait for this belly to be gone!

I made this cute giraffe dress inspired by an outfit Ginger gave to Charlotte. Charlotte has so many clothes I think I am gonna post in on my Etsy account.

This is a cute idea for a little girls room. It is a hair clip holder. You can also put knobs to hold necklaces and use the ribbons to hold earings. I got the idea from Martha Stewart. http://www.marthastewart.com/ check it out. I love to get ideas from her website and she has step by step tutorials for a lot of the projects.

Done Being Pregnant

"If pregnancy were a book, they would cut the last two chapters."

I think I am going crazy. Charlotte needs to come out now! I am so tired of being pregnant, 9 months is long enough young lady. Give me my body back!

Bratt Cats!

Notice the cats above love our bed. They have claimed it! I catch them napping right in the middle, taking up as much room as possible all the time. It is so annoying but cute!

Crib Bedding

I finally finished Charlotte's crib bedding. The hardest part was choosing fabric, luckily I had my friend Melissa there to help. The pattern has pink whales with blue and yellow flowers. I am not really into whales or anything but I liked the colors. Ginger helped me decide how to design quilt. I am pretty pleased with it came out. The bumper was a challenge and still needs some work. Since the crib doesn't have side rails it makes it impossible to secure the bumper. The bumper might get the boot. I also made a stuffed whale but forgot to take a picture.

Label

I decided to make myself a label. Pretty simple but I have been putting it on most of the items I recently made. I just printed them on our ink jet printer using special fabric paper. Super easy and fun!

Sewing Fun!

My Dad's wife Kari made this adorable doll when they stopped by for a quick visit.

Made this purse from a pattern out of a book.

Made this cute little bear and rhinestone the outfit below for my cousin's little girl.

My aunt and I made this diaper holder and changing pad.

Santa Monica

We recently visited Santa Monica for the weekend. We walked down to the pier and they had a memorial set up for soldiers who have died in Afghanistan. We made a memorial for Brandon Webb, one of Martin's friends. It will be put up every Sunday for as long as the war is still going on. In the top pictures the red crosses stand for 10 soldiers because they were running out of room and the caskets are the number of soldiers that died that week. The memorial is set up every Sunday, so if you are in the area you should stop by.

Bea!

As I promised here is the Bea gallery! I don't have as many picture of him as I do Zee. He is pretty lazy and doesn't do much of anything. He is kind of an awkward cat, he doesn't have good balance at all. When he was a kitten we thought there was something wrong with his legs. Oh yeah and we thought he was a girl! His strangest characteristic is he loves strawberry yogurt. He knows the sound of the package opening and will beg for it. We always let him lick the lid. He is not the smartest cat. He loves to play with circular toy that has a ball that goes around and around. He will sit there and keep hitting the ball around and around. Bea also has an over bite that makes him look ridiculous sometimes. Overall he is a good cat, stays out of trouble and doesn't cause any problems.
