Kylie's 1st birthday
Kylie's 1st birthday & birthday party was on Sunday March 1st. It was so hard to believe a whole year had gone by. So much happened in her first year & we were so thankful her Daddy was still with us. She had a great day - she was her typical happy self. She had lots of help opening her birthday gifts by the other kids at the party. She didn't mind though because she was fixated on the tissue paper & bows more than the actual gifts. Her first bites of birthday cake were hilarious. She is such a dainty little girl that when we set her personal cake in front of her she just looked at it. I helped her touch it hoping she'd taste the frosting on her finger but she was just dumbfounded at what we wanted her to do. So Daddy got a spoon so I could feed her a bite. She took the bite & then proceeded to gag (several times). She was still getting used to new foods at that time & anytime she would get something new (a new taste, new texture, etc) she would gag the first few times until she got used to it. So that's what happened with her first taste of birthday cake. I couldn't get her to take anymore after that though. That's OK with us - plenty of time to develop a sweet tooth. The sweetest tastes she had before this was her fruits & flavored cereal puffs so of course straight sugar would be very different for her. I want to figure out how to edit our videos so I can do a short snippet of the gagging episode & then I will post that as well. All in all, it was a wonderful celebration with many family & friends. We are truly blessed!!!
Starting off the party on Dad's lap
"Look at me - I can do funny things with my tongue"
Kylie w/ her Grandma Matchette
Birthday cake time
"I'm not sure what to do Mommy"
Here she is with a little birthday cake on her face -
I was thinking she'd make a mess so I stripped her down to her diaper
... turns out a bib would have been more than sufficient
"Oooohhh"
"Well, maybe not so bad"
(Note the cheerios on the tray - thought a familiar food might get her to try some more - Nope!)
"All done"
The cake for the rest of us to eat
Opening gifts with a little help from her friends
Kylie & her cousin Nathan playing the xylophone
"I like the bows best"
Climbing on one gift to play with another
At the end of the day
(she's not really pouting, just making a funny face)
Happy & tired at the end of the day
