Top 10 Ouch Moments

This broken rib is driving me nuts! I can't do the things I used to do. Even the easiest things. It's crazy how you don't know you use certain parts of your body until they are broken. I've come up with a "Top 10" list of the most painful, simple, things that happen on an everyday basis.
  1. Driving
  2. Sneezing/Coughing/Laughing/Hiccups
  3. Laundry
  4. Loading/Unloading the Dishwasher
  5. Laying on my Right Side to sleep
  6. Getting up from the laying position
  7. Picking up Hoss for Hugs & Kisses
  8. Washing my hair
  9. Bending Over
  10. Sitting for an extended period of time
  11. Putting wood in the Fire
  12. Changing my clothes
  13. Putting on Socks/Shoes

Ok - so maybe there's more than just 10! What's funny about this list is that I was told by the Doctor NOT to do over half of them. But I'm the Mom! How am I NOT suppose to bend over and look Hoss in the eye or clean his clothes and dishes? I'm a bookkeeper, so how am I NOT suppose to sit at my desk and do my job, or drive my car to get there?

I do suppose that I CAN allow Brandon to stoak the fire and if he isn't home to do it, turn on the Furnace. And I guess I CAN lay on my back to sleep even though I have slept on my right side since I was a child. And I guess I CAN try and roll out of bed instead of trying to sit up first. And I SUPPOSE that I could allow Lilli to load/unload the dishwasher even though it drives me NUTS when she does.

I do have 1 week down on my 6-8 weeks of recovery, but boy, is it going SLOW.

3...2...1

3 - Days in McCall

2 - Foot Jump on an inner tube

1 - Broken Rib

No fun, it HURTS, bad. Yes, I'm the one that broke a rib. The fun thing about it? You can't do ANYTHING to fix it. I got a wrap that I have to wear for the next 6-8 weeks and a bottle of Vicotin.

November Flashback

I got so busy with the 25 Days of Christmas that I totally spaced some of the other family activities we had been up to. Flashback to November....

Elk Hunting Season.. Brandon was nice enough to let us go with him for a couple nights Elk Hunting. I had never been before since the rule is "No Girls Allowed". We headed up with the Schulthies Family on a Friday to set up camp. This was the first year they pulled tags for Castle Rock. I was so excited to see this as the road to our destination. I LOVE the outdoors and camping, and was thrilled to be heading down this road - far away from everyone and everything! The camp they decided upon welcomed us with this....bear poop.
The kids got busy making their own camp... Complete with deer legs....
After a while, I decided to take the kids on a walk. We found some deer tracks, so decided to test out our own hunting skills by following the tracks.
They led us to a drinking site. Full of moss.
Saturday, we went on a ride to find firewood. We found what looks like a grave site. Not sure if it's a real grave of if someone just piled up a bunch of rocks to look like one.
Then I saw this.............SOOOOOOOOO beautiful. I have always wanted the driveway to my house to look like this. With the tree tops grown together with just an arch tall enough to let the cars drive through. Someday, I keep telling myself.....someday.

We made it to the tip top of the mountain and the view was gorgeous! Finally, we found some firewood to chop down.

This is how Weston hauled the wood up to the road.

And this is how Brandon beat him.

The girls (and Hoss) ended up heading back to camp while the men (and Tessa) finished cutting the wood. Hoss fell asleep on the 4-Wheeler ride back and so I tucked him in for a nap. He is such a peaceful sleeper.

However, he woke up full of energy and packed all the wood to our tent.

A few things I learned while being allowed to see the world of Elk Hunting....

  1. My husband is SERIOUSLY picky about his camping style.
  2. If I ever end up homeless, I will be in the best hands possible.
  3. I could live in our Elk Tent and be 100% happy.....and WARM!
  4. However, I may starve because my husband has never shot anything while hunting!
