Dress Day

I wouldn't let Shelby wear a dress Sunday afternoon so she could play out in the backyard later. (IMO, it's easier to run around in shorts.) After lunch we let her spend some time on the computer while her sister took a nap. She was having a great time with Playhouse Disney PreSchool Time while I did some scrapbooking and her dad watched TV. About 30 minutes into nap time it started raining and her comment to her daddy was - "I knew it was going to be a good dress day!" I think next time I'll check with her instead of the local weather forcaster.

To make it up to her, we went to the dollar store after nap time (to get out of the house.) She had 3 dollars saved up from Grandpa and was really excited to be able to buy something with her own money. I was looking for some more double sided tape while she went with her father to pick out her item. She wanted a soft baby doll and came to show it to me. However, as soon as Sydney saw it she started yelling out "I want baby!" for the entire store to hear. Shelby went back to look at something else and when she came back she wanted to know if it would be ok if she bought Sydney a baby doll too. (Isn't she the sweetest thing!) I said it would be fine, so Shelby picked out a doll just like hers for Sydney and then paid for both of them with her own money. I couldn't have a nicer little girl!

Happy Ca-Cake Day!

Today was Syd's birthday. I filled balloons with helium and put them up around the living room and kitchen before I got her out of bed. (Gotta love disposable helium tanks!) She knew that today was a special day, but didn't really understand why. Her favorite thing was knowing that we were having cupcakes with dinner. (What she calls ca-cakes.) After the traditional birthday pizza dinner, we brought out the cupcakes. She got two mini cupcakes with a candle in each of them and had big round eyes while we sang Happy Birthday to her. Everyone helped her blow out the candles, to make sure she didn't try to touch them. As we all sat down to eat our cupcake she started singing Happy Ca-Cake to me! Happy Ca-Cake to me! Happy Ca-Cake Sydney - Happy Ca-Cake to me!
Nothing is cuter than a two year old that realizes it's her special day. I just hope she's still into it on Saturday when she has her family party.

Sugar Cookies

OK - I have to admit that I'm willing to make a mess to let my kids have fun. However, yesterday afternoon I let them decorate sugar cookies to kill time between nap and dinner. I've done this before with one child, so how hard can it be with two? Difficult was not the problem, the mess was! Shelby knocked over two different bowls of sprinkles and Sydney was trying to help by throwing sprinkles at her sister's cookies. We had colored sprinkles all over the place! Then Sydney decided that the icing on the cookies was really good (I made royal icing) and started licking the cookies before she decorated them. She had sprinkles all over her hands and face. Everyone had way too much sugar, but they had fun and the cookies didn't look half bad.
