Chloe Dichter — Nosh!

Nosh!

In an effort to find ancestral kinship and cultural belonging, I began printing archived family photographs onto foods of my childhood. Planted firmly within Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine, I also had a taste for stereotypical American delicacies like Kraft cheese singles. These disparate foods are a portrait of my upbringing. Printing on these foods renders them inedible but they are not useless, rather they give me the opportunity to examine the body, remembrance, and familial connections. Both the physical object and the memories captured in these photos are ephemeral and have a life span. Resurrecting my ancestors onto a piece of meat, just to watch them deteriorate, forces me to negotiate with my place in this archive and in the world.
