Academia: Support for Professional Academics

This community is for faculty, staff, researchers, administrators and graduate students in higher education to discuss issues related to life in academia. While diversity of opinion will be respected, ad hominem attacks will not be tolerated. There are other LJ communities where you may unleash your inner snark and harass other LJ users. Do not do so here. This community is a professional resource. Please respect the posting rules of this community:

1. If your post is exceptionally long, please use an LJ-cut.

2. We recommend that you make most of your posts Friends-Only. This will prevent people from outside the community from viewing your posts.

3. This community will tolerate almost any question that is related to life in higher education. Off-topic posts will not be welcome, however, and may be deleted.

4. Ad-hominem attacks, gratuitously nasty comments and other forms of unprofessional or inappropriate expression will not be tolerated. These posts may be deleted and/or the offending poster may be suspended or banned.

5. Anyone who re-publishes friends-only posts in other venues will be banned. The moderators will follow up with a complaint to the LiveJournal gods. While it is true that the leaders of LJ are not interested in getting involved in community disputes, they will react if private posts are published elsewhere.
