In a recent thread on Ask MetaFilter, the asker requested suggestions for "the most terrible scientific presentation I can possibly muster. Tell me how to make it awesomely bad." Although some of the suggestions are specifically science-related, a lot of them are more general and relate to PowerPoint and overall presentation skills.

A couple of the responses made me laugh out loud.

So I'm opening our department's mail this morning and come across a $9,000+ invoice from a service provider (who shall remain nameless) whose paperwork bills them as "A PROFFESIONAL COORPORATION".

...uh, yeah.

Has anyone here gotten certification in Quickbooks? I understand you can buy the Quickbooks program and they offer certification through their program and website? I haven't used it before, and would like to learn how as I really hate to limit myself in a job. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone recommend an awesome wireless headset that is easy to set up and can answer a multi line phone? My boss is in dire need of one.... here is the best I could find with the limited time i have:

The credit card we use at work gave us notice that they're jacking our interest APR (so noted here). I called yesterday to inquire what in our payment history merited this kind of increase and got a sycophantic apologist telling me that we had an excellent payment history, and they were so sorry, but this increase went to all their customers, they were so very, very sorry. This morning the cover of the Wall Street Journal reported the same company is seeking approval to pay out bonuses [article].

I guess that was inevitable-- our APR on the one credit card we use and pay off each month, every month, and have for nine years, is going up to 29.99%. Heaven help us if we ever need credit.

Ugh. This is admin hell if I ever heard it.

My boss's boss just came in here to say hi to the department (dept consists of 3 people including me). He greeted T and K by name and then walked out without even looking at me. This man HATES me. He has picked on me for stupid stuff that even makes my boss roll her eyes because she doesn't understand what his deal is.

Last time I posted it was because I filed a claim w/ the eeoc against my employer for refusing to provide reasonable accomodations for my disabilities except to not punish me for missing work for reasons related to my disabilities (unpaid time of course)....and they are punishing me/threatening termination me for missing work including taking privledges away from me that are given to other employees. No update on that situation yet. The EEOC hasn't gotten back to me.

I feel like my employer doesn't want me here, and doesn't want to deal with my health issues. Does wrongful termination only apply in cases where they actually fire me? What is it called when the situation is so uncomfortable that I feel forced to quit? :\ Both of my disabilities are greatly exacerbated by stress, and the constant pressure from my employer to just "get better" makes it worse.

How do you deal when you get that creeping "OMIGAWD I DON'T THINK I CAN WORK WITH THESE JERKISH MORONS ANYMORE" feeling? (pertaining to coworkers) It's getting to the point where I don't even want to talk to them and just looking at them pisses me off and I don't want to be that way.
