Kingdom of AEthelmearc

From Kingdom 12th Night,2010 to Fall Coronation, 2012 the Kingdom of Æthelmearc has given out over 600 scrolls. We have taken great pride in the fact that each scroll is a unique work of art and as such wish to make sure that these scrolls are taken care of. During same amount of time, we have tried to make sure that each scrollis also given a scroll case to keep it safe. While some cases have been returned for reuse, most have not.

The office of the Sylvan Signet, with the full support of Khan Khalek and Khatun Branwyn, therefore issues a challenge to all of Æthelmearc. Can the good people of this Sylvan Kingdom create two piles of scroll cases as tall as Their Majesties? His Majesty stands at 6 feet and Her Majesty is 5 feet, 1 inch. So we are looking for a total of 11 feet 1 inch. I believe that we can meet, if not exceed this goal. I challenge you to create as many cases as you can between now and the Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon, to be held in March 2013 in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Bring or send the cases to the event and see if we can reach the goal. I would like to see this be a group effort. Get a team of 3-5 people together to make as many cases as you can. The team with the most turned in will receive a prize.

I have directions for both sewn and no-sew versions. There will also be a class on how to make scroll cases at Æthelmearc Æcademy on November 10th in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael

Unless you have been living under a rock, you are aware that today is the day that Æthelmearc makes the change from light to heavy rapier default. If you still have only a light authorization, you have six months from this day to acquire your heavy auth. If you want to authorize in rapier from now on you must first get your heavy single authorization.

Light rapier is not gone, and those with light rapier authorizations still hold them. New light rapier authorizations may be gotten any time after your first. After that, any form you are authorized in heavy rapier, will be able to fight in light.

It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that Baron Tomas has passed away today. He was in Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland being treated for kidney cancer. Baroness Rowan is doing as well as can be expected and will be back here in West Virginia later this week. Final arrangements are pending. Further announcements will be posted here as soon as I know more.

This Kingdom shall mourn his passing even as we remember with fondness his life and the joy which he brought to the Society and everyone in it. I salute this man, with whom it was my honor to work, and whom it was my privilege to know and call "friend." He shall be sorely missed, and our Kingdom is poorer for his absence.

Currently the Saturday forecast from NOAA.gov for Pittsburgh calls for a chance of rain and a high in the mid 50s. Please prepare accordingly with warm and rain-appropriate clothing. There will be covered space outside for the populace, as well as plenty of space indoors to stay warm and dry if that is what you prefer.
The tournament will move indoors if staying outside would cause risk to the combatants and consorts, but I do not see that being a problem.

It will be a night of laughter and tears, song and silliness as we celebrate a man whose life was filled with all four--often with a sword in hand.
