First of all, I'm really enjoying BTVS, Season 8, which, if you don't know, is a series of comic books overseen (and some written) by Joss. It basically tells us what happens after Season 7, and there are story arcs and one-shots, just like the series. I'm liking the art in the first arc (the first four parts), and you can get "special effects" you never could in the series (as a letter writer in one of the issues pointed out). And it's not much of a spoiler (b/c we find out very early on) that Dawn's a giant.

You can get it at your local comic book store or order it online. I get it from Things From Another World (TFAW), and I'm sorry I'm too tired to get the URL. You won't have any trouble finding it. Oh, I have a wish list there if anyone's feeling wealthy. :-)

OK, I have some spoilerific things wrt the first arc (the first four issues) to discuss w/ anyone who's reading it too, so I'll make my other rec in another post.

I wish I had remembered this quote when I was writing about Angel in my book, b/c what BTVS and ATS do so well is manage to be extremely Romantic and make fun of themselves at the same time. And as I've always said wrt Byron, the best way to be a Romantic is to be able to have a sense of humor about it; otherwise you just get self-pitying mush.

This is Giles talking to Angel in BTVS, "Out of Mind, Out of Sight":

Giles: "A vampire in love with a Slayer! It's rather poetic! In a maudlin sort of way."

I love how he brings up how "poetic" the impossible-lover thing is and then undercuts it w/ the "maudlin" comment immediately. Perfect.
