Aren't you fed-up with garbage, full-of-shit sites where nobody actually communicates, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter? Do you wish your old friends who've migrated to those sites would return to LiveJournal? The the_lj_revival community has been set up with that aim in mind, and you are invited to join it. If you are already on LiveJournal and still have a Facebook profile, and would like to see more people returning to LJ or setting up accounts here, we invite you to post a link to this community on your Facebook Timeline. If you would like to find out who is still using LiveJournal and make contact with those who are already here, you are invited to copy and paste the 'about me' questions on the profile page and post them with your answers to the community.

I think, that on I can say on behalf of everyone else involved, A Very Big But Simple Thank You!! I had an number of the performers and other organisers came up to me and say thank you (to me), but I think that that really should go to all of you.

Without each and everyone of you, we couldn't have done have put on last night show. Reading the todays newspaper, last night crowds were the largest yet and we had as far as I am aware no real problems..

Fantastic!!

Again Thank you...

We will (in the near future) be holding a post-event celebration, but we will let you know when plans have been firmed up a little more and hope that you will be able to join us.

I also hope that those of you that can will join us next (modern calendar) year for Beltane (The 21st!!)!!

About this Entry

EDITED: TIMES AMENDED!!

Hi All,

If you HAVEN'T had clothes fire proofed yet and you still need to do it, then I will be doing Emergency Fire Proofing today from 4PM TO 8.30PM and tomorrow afternoon 4PM TO 6PM (no later since I am meeting a firend later on).

The fire proofing will be (depending on the weather) be in the stairwell of my block, or out the rear of the flat in the garden (access is through the main door and then down off the small stairs through the back).

My address is: 70 Strathearn Road, Marchmont.

Postcode is EH 9 2AF.

MOBILE 0777 272 6030

Link to website:

BUSES:

To get there by BUS, either get the Number 41 or No. 5 bus. The 41 you can pick up from Princes street and goes up the mound. Get off  when you come to the top of Marchmont Road and the cross road junction with the traffic lights. Once off cross the road to opposing side by the TOAST Cafe, and walk up the road that is to the left of it. Thats Strathearn Road.

The 5 goes up south bridge, clerk, south clerk and turns off right, then goes along grange road and then on to Strathearn Road. Get off just after the Tyre and exhaust place, that is on the left just after the traffic lights. Once off, continue to walk up the road, away from the traffic lights, crossing over. You are on Strathearn Road

The Blue door will be open, so you can come straight through - however if the door is shut for whatever reason, then you can press the buzzer marked 'Campbell', or I can be contacted on my mobile 0777 272 6030 and I will open it.

Can you all please do try to make sure that you do come along to get fire proofed if you are either processional steward or if you know any torchbearers that haven't, please pass on this to them ASAP. If you aren't fire proofed, sorry but you won't be allowed to be in the procession.

Thank you.

I recently took some time to trawl through YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo! Video and blip.tv for Beltane clips, and have collated the links on the NightWatch wiki here. One thought I've had is that it might be an idea for BFS to solicit the general public to send in clips shot on mobile phones, etc., preferably under some form of Creative Commons license, so that they can be made available for viewing by others and/or the best can be used to create a video montage. That, I think, would be nifty.

I lost my drumsticks at studio 24 at the club and I'd reeeeeally like to get them back. They're bass beaters made of hammer handles and stuff sentimental value etc etc.

Does anyone know if the lost stuff from the club went anywhere in particular? I've tried swinging past the club, but it was shut. Any idea would be most useful.

Please see the Gallery at www.beltane.org for piccies of Beltane this year.

We are still in the process of uploading (tiredness, and day-jobs has delayed some of us) but so far myself (Processional), Tom (Processional), and Adam (Earth) have uploaded the best of their piccies.

Still to come are Joe (Red Men), Nedine (Water), JR (Air), Graham (Fire / Stage), Ramsay (Fire / Stage), Ove (Super-tele), William (Tele / Acropolis), and Stuart (No Point).

That was a magical night, and it is with great pleasure that we may bring some of that magic to others who were not so able to see everything that happened.

Forwarded from Adam, the Front of House Manager for Beltane...

Hi all,

For this year's big event we need a number of people to help with stewarding and working in the ticket booth on Waterloo Place. There are a number of PAID POSITIONS available to individuals with relevant experience.

We are also looking for volunteers to compliment the team in both areas.

Many Thanks,

Adam Tomkins
FOH manager.

Please reply to this post if you are interested, and I will forward your interest on to Adam.

two_truths:
Some Information about Samhuinn:

  • Samhuinn will be on the night of Tuesday, October 31st.

  • It is the tenth Samhuinn celebrated by the Beltane Fire Society.

  • The procession will start at 9pm, at the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, at the top of the Royal Mile.

  • The procession will reach the Mound by around 9:40pm.

  • There will be a stage and four podiums (plus possibly also a side stage for a band), set up to the side of the Royal Academy building, facing towards Waverley Station.

  • The stage performance will conclude by 11pm.

  • There will be an afterparty at the Bongo Club, from 11:30pm 'til 3am, non-performers £8 entry (£6 concs).
This note is in advance of the flier-type information that will probably be distributed somewhat more thoroughly nearer to the night.

Hula Solstice Party, Bongo Club, Thursday 22nd June
"The Hula Solstice Party (a fundraiser for Lunasadh) will be happening a week on Thursday (22nd) at the Bongo Club! Waheee it looks like its going to be a wicked night- a wild mix of LIVE music and djs playing music from around the world to get us all boogying and bouncing :) There will be a wild mix of tropical decor, a troup of noisy drumming badgers and REAL LIVE DANCING HULA GIRLS!!

We haven't printed the flyers yet because the line-up is not yet completely finalised, so seeing as its getting close, it would be great if you could all tell your friends, your enemies and your grannies that its happening to make sure that we get a big crowd to a) make this party one to remember and b) make enough money to fund the BFS Lunasadh event on the beach in August."

Please will you spread the word that this community exists, and also feel free to post whatever information you have about Beltane etc. I will update with whatever comes onto the public distribution e-mail lists.

Basic ettiquette applies in this community: keep things cut after one paragraph and/or one picture, do not troll (i.e. post hatred posts etc), keep it on-topic (anything to do with Beltane and/or BFS and/or celtic or Pagan or alternative celebrations occuring in Edinburgh).

Moderation will be light-hearted; trolls will be deleted, BFS-only posts will be deleted, otherwise I will comment and ask for corrections to be made rather than deleting anything. I would welcome another moderator who held some status within Beltane Fire Society itself...?
