Is now up in a draft format and covers zines that feature both Ray Vecchio and Benton Fraser. Please stop by and let us know if we've missed any zines. We are short on gen zine recs, so look through your piles of zines and drop us a note. Feel free to link or forward to any list or web page that is appropiate for both gen and slash listings.

11:05 am - Hey guys
|

viedma
|
I'm going to be taking a wee bit of a break from fannish type stuff for a while. It's not a total break or anything, just that i need to spend a lot less time on mailing lists and do different things and keep a lower profile. Vali's going to be checking up on the list, but really, at this point it runs itself and everyone's having a good time, which makes us happy.
I'm still going to be a LJ whore though-- i'm not going to be drastic about this! :D

6:54 pm - in regards to The Meeting, #1
|

simplelyric
|
This is my long-awaited reply to Giu's report on our first meeting. I've trimmed it down as much as I feel is possible since some of this doesn't matter anymore and I'm sure only a few people care -- which is also why it's going in the Bindle LJ. Those few are almost all LJ users, I'd bet.
Giuliana wrote: Now that's outta my system...I met Kim! As in *my* Kim! On Tuesday night! Woohoo!
Let me say this similarly to what "Sam"/Kevin Bacon said to "Nick"/Jay Mohr regarding "Kate"/Jennifer Aniston in Picture Perfect: -So, I'm Kim. I'm her Kim. She's my Giu. Heh, heh.- But, really. It was great. I'm so thrilled to have met her in person at all, let alone twice now. We clicked in the way that all friends should when meeting after only having talked on the Net before. ;-)
We met in Santa Cruz -- at a *Denny's* for Pete's sake [g] -- around 6:45pm. We talked there for about two hours about work, school, her meeting with Paul, her not-so-chance encounter with the waiter from "Victoria's Secret," converting slashers, and various other things, including the *weather.*
Giu has this obsession with the fact that we Bindlers seem to always devote some amount of time in the weekly chats to talking about the weather. [shrug] My dear freak.
Then around 8:30, we moved the conversation up to her hotel room...hey, get your heads out of the gutter (if that's at all possible with this group).
Actually, I would really like to see some of you jump into the gutter on this one. Pretty please? Somebody write a slash fic (I know, it's in addition to the very sweet poem Laura did) about Giu & I meeting, or about our second [ahem] encounter? Both of us would like to see it, I promise.
She was sharing a room with her *parents,* you know.
But, my mom fell asleep very shortly after we go to the room, and my dad was in the restroom for quite some time, if that helps. Besides, we did spend nearly 2 hours at Denny's, with my parents some distance away. You never know about the fun footsie games we might have played, or what could have happened in the Denny's bathroom ...
Anyway, there we talked and talked and talked some more. [-snip-] We kept on talking until a little after 1am when her father said that we would have to call it a night 'cause Kim was doing some of the driving the next day.
Which was *ridiculous*. Not only did I barely drive on the trip home -- this isn't a bad thing in and of itself since we drove a lot at night and I suck at driving at night -- but we didn't start that drive until around 5 p.m. the next day, after having spent the whole morning and afternoon in Santa Cruz, a single hour from Giuliana [who was even free that day, too]. My dad even said that Giuliana could have spent that time with us, too. I wanted to strangle him for not allowing for that possibility sooner. }=(
We parted unwillingly with a tight hug.
That's pretty much how it happened both times.
I really wanted to kidnap her, you know.
Awwwwww.
Some other highlights: Kim's reaction to hearing that 3 different people would like to see the "Cold" universe continue. Priceless. [g]
And with Vali making at least number four now! [g] Jeez, guys - I mean, I'm glad you appreciate how *faboo* a story Giuliana created, but you have no idea how long it took! The multiple drafts! The Fraser characterization questions! The 2-person self-help group! Aiee.
The fact that according to Kim the Headstones got into a tan *mini-van* after a gig.
True. From Tam's Sarnia-Headstones report, it seems that's what they use all the time for budget reasons. I still think it's surprising and funny.
You know, when it comes to finding out if semi-recent DS stories are any good, one should not ask Kim. She's reading even less than I am.
I think this is actually no longer the case, since Giuliana's reading nothing of dS and I'm reading a tiny bit.
My inability to pronounce most of our fellow slashers' names unless they were really easy.
Ah, but we both had this problem. Part of the time we just couldn't figure out what was supposed to be the right way to say someone's name, so we both just said it however it came out of our mouths.
Her dad also took pictures of us together, so one of us will scan and upload them when they are developed.
Did we ever do that, the scanning? I don't think we did. Nope, because I haven't seen either set of pics yet, neither when I was out there with Giuliana over spring break nor when I've met up with my parents. Hmm, maybe there's something in those pictures I'm not supposed to see ... That aside, though, I'll have to see if I can figure out where those awful last-minute pictures are from spring break.

2:16 pm - Help?
|

simplelyric
|
There's this absurd little hand motion that [Miss] Fraser and Ray do in "Some Like It Red." I can't figure out what the hell they're doing. It's when they're going into the antique store: Ray holds the door open for Fraser, then he puts his hand out like he's going to pat Fraser's stomach -- sort of like when people feel a pregnant woman's belly for kicks -- and Fraser's hand goes up and makes a motion similar to what people do when declining an hors d'oeuvre. Whoever has a tape and is willing to watch that episode again, or at least that part of it, could you do so and tell me what on earth is going on there? I've watched the movement a dozen times, at regular speed and in slow motion, and I just haven't the foggiest. It's been driving me nuts.

No? No-one said anything?
Oh, all right.
*sigh*
I decided to succumb to the trend and put up a recs page. It's not quite complete, but it's another way of foisting off my opinion on folks who probably don't really want it. ;)

I changed the colours. The Pepto-scheme was starting to make me feel fluish every time I logged in.
Anyone still having trouble posting, email me at colleen@MailOps.com (this means you, dine)
My fic rec of the week: LaT's Supple. She describes it as Fraser, Kowalski, and very pretty piece of leather. I call it kinky, hot and totally believable, which is saying something, because most kink stories I have a hard time buying. This one had me handing over the credit card yelling "SOLD!!" Check it out.

By overwhelming vote, I'm keeping BJ. I didn't WANT to delete it, sibs, I just didn't know if YOU wanted it. But you do.
SO. Since cerise asked, here are the posting instructions again.
Login to YOUR journal. When you click on update, make sure you click on the ... next to it, so you'll get the full update screen.
Down below the entry box and the update button but above the mood & music, will be a little pull-down that says "journal to post in". It defaults, of course, to your journal. Select BJ sometime before you click on update.
And remember to sign your posts, since your idpic and things don't show up in the shared journal.
I'm going to be out of town for a few days, I might be able to get online, I might not, but if there are any questions/comments/concerns, post em or e me, and I'll get to you asap.
THANKS!!! everyone who voted

Okay, I've been busy and things, and I'm sure everyone else has been busy and things, and it's not like we don't get our kicks on YahooGroups, so the question is:
Do you want me to delete this thing? Is it completely redundant, just like some folks said it was when I created it??
I'm not going to flog a dead horse just to hear the sound of the whip cracking.
Send yes or no votes with any ancillary commentary to me at colleen@MailOps.com OR post em here, and I promise to read them.

Wow, it sure is pink in here. I'm getting Nature of the Beast flashbacks.... (Okay, you had to be there. Lance Henriksen, Eric Roberts, and the pinkest motel room on the earth.)
Anyway, I'm just popping in to say hi and that I'm finally figuring this LiveJournal stuff out. I would have been in Bindlechat last night if I hadn't crashed....

6:06 pm - Best RayK ep?
|

minette
|
Hmm, personally, I liked 'Ladies Man' and thought it was one of the best RayK episodes done. I liked the episode because Ray starts off believing Beth is guilty, then gradually, he realizes that his rookie mistake may cost someone her life. So, he goes off with Fraser, does his investigating, finds out who the culprits are, and then puts them in jail. In the midst of all of this duty-honor-courage, etc., he takes the time to visit Beth in her prison cell and, just by looking in her eyes, determines that she's not guilty; a little instinct to counter the overwhelming logic.
You get to see Ray being vulnerable when he cries at the end, but you also see why he's considered a good cop. Once he finds out he might have put the wrong person in jail, he goes out of his way to find the truth, and he does it despite everyone else's belief that Beth is guilty. He's also not afraid to get in anyone's face; witness his slamming Dewey into the desk when he started making comments about Beth. He's a tenacious bulldog on this case, and once he does find his proof, he's not ashamed to own up to his role in Beth's incarceration.
Plus, I really liked the way they wrote Beth, tough enough to survive eight years in prison, loyal enough to take the blame for her husband, and gracious enough to forgive Ray for his mistake.

Well, for my part, Lorraine, I went ahead and created this thing, and then work got muy hectic almost immediately. It's as though the Great Transcendental Overdude doesn't want me having any fun, the bastard.
What Mary said about BJ not having anything especially unique (aside, of course, from the frabjous Pepto Bismol colour scheme) is quite true. I'm not sure what we can do to make it so, but I'll think on it.
Perhaps topics? Here's one to start:

8:50 pm - RE: what's slash?
|

colleenkane
|
Well, Kim, come sit on my knee and I'll tell ya a story.
I think by the simplest definition, slash is just putting two people together with a / between their names.
Okay, okay, sorry. Slash is putting two people together, in fiction, in a sexual relationship of some definition (doesn't have to be flowers and romance and happily every after, it could be a one night zipless fuck) who otherwise wouldn't or couldn't get together themselves. A'course, saying that sort of implies autonomy on the part of the characters, which is strictly speaking, not possible...
Anyway, an ActorFriend of mine, who plays a Frequently Slashed Character On A Popular Show (henceforth known as he or him), wondered a while back, "Why do you people want this guy to be gay? He's NOT gay. What's the point?"
My response was, since it's fiction, it's not necessarily that we want him to be gay, it's that we want him to do new and different things in new and different ways. It's reinterpretation, it's experimentation. And that, I think, is as much a part of the definition of slash as the sexual part. I've written several G rated slash stories; oftentimes, I prefer to mess with the characters and relationships and skip the headboard rattling.
If this answers your question at all, I'll be surprised. *g* Just a ramble on a Tuesday evening...

5:59 pm - What's slash?
|

simplelyric
|
No, I didn't suddenly go amnesiac or something. I still understand the concept of slash. I've just been wondering about what really constitutes slash for some people in certain cases, and when Colleen mentioned something along those lines in her journal recently I decided to just ask. So, really, this is just kind of a "Whaddya think?" sorta thing. Anyway ... If one character is canonically gay, and another is canonically supposed to be straight (this is not in the QAF world, I've never seen any versions of that and am just speaking in terms of, well, anything), then does pairing those two people count as slash in your mind? And what about two gay characters who are just not canonically linked at all in a romantic way?

Already posted this in my own journal, but I had to post it here, because it's cool news, and nobody else has mentioned it yet. And it's reasonably relevant, because Bindle talks about this movie quite a lot.
It looks like Hard Core Logo will be out on DVD in June. Unless there's another movie with the same title.
Yay. :)

I really have no idea what to post in this journal. I know I should think of something profound, witty, or just plain interesting, but I'm blanking.
Although I now suddenly have this urge to re-watch all my Blackadder tapes. This has got to be my most favorite exchange in all the Blackadder series. It's from Sense and Senility, where Prince George and Baldrick mistake two actors rehearsing a scene for assassins. Blackadder, of course, steps in and takes complete advantage of the situation, sending the two snobby puffs to jail for snubbing him from before.
Mossop But, your Highness, there's been a terrible mistake.
Blackadder That's what they were bound to say, sir.
Kenrick It was a play. A play! Look sire, all the words you heard written down on paper.
Blackadder Text book stuff again. The criminals' vanity always make them make one tiny but fatal mistake. Theirs was to have their entire conspiracy printed and published in play manuscript form. Take them away.
Like I said, pointless. But it's fun.
