Politics of North and South Carolina

Here's the breakdown: Bev Perdue, the Democratic candidate for NC Governor, is receiving a ton of money from unions and other special interest groups.  Surprise, surprise, right?  Everyone wonders how it is that NC keeps electing Democratic governors, and this is why.  What WE need to do is show that the PEOPLE of North Carolina are the ones who are really in control here -- not the special interest groups with the deepest pockets.  Any amount that you can give will be beneficial.  Let's show the Democrats that we're not going to put up with their socialist-leaning policies anymore.

Republican Pat McCrory is boldly attempting to oust Perdue and the rest of Governor Mike "Tax-Hike" Easley's cronies.  But he can't do it alone.  He needs help from those of us that realize the Democrats are offering a false promise of "hope" in these trying times.  Sure, Perdue's promises of "free" healthcare and college education sound great, but we all know that none of that is free.  The taxpayers will continue to see more and more of their hard-earned dollars disappear from their paychecks, and we'll being having less and less say in who we choose to provide our medical care and where we go to college.  You know that I speak the truth, because this has already happened in the lower levels of education.

Start with 2 parts ex-Autocade rhythm section, well-seasoned and slightly aged. Add singer/songwriter extraordinaire. Mix in a lead guitarist from Chicago. Flanked by one wife, a girlfriend or two, two dawgs, three cats, a crappy 4-track cassette machine, a cramped practice room, Durham Bulls baseball games and Wednesday pint nights at Tyler's Tap Room. The result: a collective entity that met over the wonderous internet to play rock music and have a lot of fun doing it. The only regret: not getting this thing together sooner.

Is anyone in or around Columbia interested in getting together to have an informal social meeting with dinner and political chat? It'd be a chance to meet other progressives in the area in a friendly manner, and just get to know them and hang out in a no-stress environment, especially for those of us who aren't active in formal political organizations.

...if he can get elected.

This guy's name is Emile DeFelice, and he's running for Commissioner of Agriculture with the motto "Put the State on your Plate". He could very well be the man to safeguard food resources and save agriculture for SC.

Some of his platform ideas are:

1. Increasing local food production
2. Reducing reliance on outsourced food that is dependent on oil for production and transportation
3. Support sustainable, organic farming that provides state and local needs
4. Reviving local economies with specialty products like heirloom meats and produce
5. Reducing SC's energy dependence and consumption to increase the state's ability to weather shortages and disruption
6. Improve school nutrition with schoolyard initiatives partnering with local farmers

South Carolinians, get the word out! This is where change can be made, at the state and local level and with posts like Commissioner of Agriculture. People don't always pay as much attention to those campaigns, and as a result, grassroots efforts can pay off.
