I think that if they had negotiated the peace with the Allies they couldń´t have kept f.e. France. But what about other countries they occupied and were still ruling in 1944? What about Czechoslovakia, Austria, Poland? What about the Sowiet Union? Under what conditions would the Sowiet Union have made peace with Germany?
would the Stauffenberg group have prohibited NSDAP? Would Germany have stayed united ?
Would the German have been more willing to punish war criminals if the "revolution" had been of German origin and not dictated by the Allies?
Would the Stauffenberg group really have closed the concentration camps at once?

This is one of the causes of the American Revolution that is almost never broached in what passes for “American history” classes in high school. Even in this article, the hysterical anti-Catholic prejudices of the “Patriots” of New England are barely touched upon:

The new chairman of the House intelligence committee cannot tell the difference between Sunni and Shi’ite, and his predecessor was not much better. And I’d wager that no one in the US Congress was forced in school, as I sadly was, to study Europe’s thirty years’ war. But they’d better start, because it may be already upon them. Not in Europe this time, but in the Middle East.
Andrew Sullivan’s analogy between what’s transpiring now in the Middle East and the Thirty Years War in 17th century Europe may be brilliant, but he doesn’t go far ENOUGH in his analysis.

July 1553 & the death of 16-year-old Edward VI. The Duke of Northumberland conspired to seize power by having Edward name his cousin Lady Jane Grey, daughter of Henry Grey, Earl of Suffolk, as successor to the throne, then marrying his son Guildford to Jane. As we all know, Jane only reigned for 9 days, the Protestant forces collapsed under the Catholic resurgence, & Mary Tudor returned the nation to the Papist fold for the next five years, including a marriage to Philip V of Spain.
Had the Catholic forces not successfully regrouped, had Mary not taken the throne & Jane stayed as queen, how would that have affected English policy for the remaining half of the 16th century? Would the Spanish Armada have come sooner, or come at all? What about England's high-seas marauding against Spain & their new world interests?

Would the U.S. be significantly different today if it hadn't been for prohibition in the 1920s? Probably the biggest (but not necessarily only) question to ask: can such a large portion of the crime that took place in those days be solely attributed to prohibition, and if so, did it affect future generations of organized crime?

What if Darah Shukoh, rather than Arungzebh, had succeeded Shah Jahan as padshah of Mughal India? Would the Sufi ideas of this mystic religious syncretist have contributed to alleviating sectarian strife in India? Would Islam as a world religion have been changed by an experiment in Sufi governance of a major Muslim empire? Would Darah Shukoh have had the tenacity and political acumen to hold his throne?

What if the catholic church had never adopted the car-crash like image of Christ in agony nailed up on his cross, and instead had focused on the image of the loving Mother and Child from the get-go? After all, it wasnt till long after the rise of the church that the hierarchy reluctantly placed any emphasis whatsoever on the inclusion of the Mother, which they only did to satisfy the demands of the newly "christianized" europeans.

How about:
What if Guttenberg's movable printing press hadn't been invented? I know it's a giant question, but regarding even one aspect of the modern world, what if people had remained lost from the written word?
(Ex. for starters there wouldn't be a livejournal.)
