[ i'm afraid that if you take some of my icons, there's a set of rules you'll have to follow. They're the same rules that most icon-makers use, but if you need them once more, here they are:
x commenting is very good. Most icon makers absolutely love it when you comment on their work. They most likely put a lot of time and effor into their creations and want to hear what other people think of them. So, if you take an icon, comment and tell me which one. If you like them, comment and tell me! If you don't like them, you can comment and tell me that too but do it in a respectful manner, please. I'm always open to constructive crit. so don't be afraid to give it. I know I'm not perfect and I'm always looking to get better. Commenting is not mandatory, but it's very much appreciated.
x crediting is mandatory. There are no exceptions to this rule. Crediting someone for an icon, banner, layout, etc. lets other people know that you did not make it. Someone put a lot of time and effort itno what you're using and it's polite to let others know that they made it. If you do now know how to credit, there are plenty of lovely tutorials out there so you may learn. I suggest finding one before you take any of my graphics. If you use an icon, credit either
__phantasmic or silent_storm_ in the keywords or comment. If you use a banner or other graphic, credit in your userinfo.x i love it when people share. If someone asks you where you got your icon, tell them! I'm always up for extra pimping. Just DON'T PASS THE ICON/BANNER OFF AS YOUR OWN. IT'S RUDE.
x the hotlinking issue: if you don't know what hotlinking is, go find out before you take my icons. I believe
teh_indy has a tutorial on what hotlinking is and how NOT to do it. I've had a hotlinking problem before and I had to re-upload all of my icons and it took for-freaking-ever. Don't make me have to do it again, don't hotlink. Anything. ]
[ usually I'm up for requests, although I really don't like doing the personal stuff. I'm sorry, but I really could care less about you and your boyfriend and you want an icon made of you two together. If you want some Johnny Depp icons, comment somewhere and tell me and I'll usually do it. If you want a certain picture with certain words or something but it could be of use to the livejournal community, go ahead and ask. But I really don't like doing customized personal crap. I think it's annoying. ]
