We promote transnational solidarity efforts that connect upstate communities to grassroots social justice movements in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Our Work
CUSLAR promotes a political analysis that links U.S.-based struggles against poverty, racism, environmental degradation, border enforcement, and threats to democracy — to the liberatory efforts of people in Latin America and the Caribbean. Since 1974, we have disseminated a seasonal newsletter showcasing our analysis.
We provide robust educational programming on Latin America and Caribbean issues, including film screenings, lectures, panels, and long-term study groups. We prioritize the perspectives of social justice leaders directly involved in local struggles, with an emphasis on understanding how those struggles connect to our local, U.S.-based realities.
We participate in human rights campaigns and social justice coalitions that seek to improve peoples’ material conditions and promote our collective wellbeing. Areas of focus have included anti-poverty, global health, and migrant rights campaigns.
CUSLAR helps student members connect their academic learning to social justice action. Students hone a transnational political analysis and leadership skills — many go on to find meaningful, social justice oriented careers in policy, law, journalism, academia, and beyond.
