Are you allowed to start high school all over again if you graduated, but were a D/C student? [08 Aug 2007|11:15pm]

heart_over_head
I honestly would love to. I just graduated (barely) this year, but I keep thinking how I could have done better if only I had yearned for knowledge as much during freshman, sophmore, and junior year as I did during senior year (I totally turned around senior year and WANTED to learn). I just wish that I was in high school for learning instead of being there just to pass it. I feel like I missed out on being enlightened and how I could be a better writer or be more knowledgable today about social studies if only I had listened in class.

There's a high school closer to my house that's known for being really good, but my district assigned me to my old high school. Do you think they would let me enroll there and start all over and redo all 4 years? I know that I will get really good grades (because of intrinsic motivation rather than for grades) and it'll be worth it because that would set a better foundation for college later on. Either that or I'm going to a community college and transfer. I really do want to go back to high school to gain more knowledge...basic knowledge I should know. Btw, I'm 18. Could you help me by giving me advice on how to pursue this?

Sorry about the grammatical errors...I should have listened in English class.

(Please let me know if this post isn't appropriate and if you want me to delete it.)

I've been wondering, what are the regulations for P.E. classes and attendance in your schools?
In my high school we take P.E every year and 3 marking periods are of gym, and one is a health class, or Drivers Ed (if you're a sophmore). If you don't get dressed 4 times, you fail the marking period. And if you fail gym twice you have to take it again. As for attendance, you are only allowed to have 14 unexcused days, afterwards you have to take credit completion in the summer. But that only goes up to 24. If you have more then 24 days absent, you fail the year. I'm currently at 45. :/

well hello there!

are High Schoolers able to join this group? I just joined Live Journal, and am really digging it. how many other people are from NH here?

as for drama, hmmm... well, I turned in a paper yesterday, and when I got it back, I got a D. When I looked for what I missed, guess what? I FORGOT SPELL CHECK. the D is a bit much, as it' not gonna look good on my transcript but at least now I won't turn it in without using spell check ever again.

Hello, I am a graduate student who is preparing to become a high school teacher. I hated high school with an intense passion and thought that I could make it better for others. I now see that the entire system is flawed. I have decided to write a book about why students hate school so much, and about how it is those who fail or simply do not comply, who are actually the most talented, the most spirited.

Excuse me for abusing your forum, but I would like any help I can get from students. Please reply or email me chewthisuniverse@hotmail.com and tell me your gender/age or grade and why you hate school, possibly offer suggestions maybe.

If not, thank you for your time. I hope to give teens with understandable angst a forum.

Hi everyone. :) I'm Paola and I'm 17 from the Philippines. I just joined this community so...I'm looking forward to meeting new friends. :)

Anyway.

Senior year is being a drag, even more so than usual. Two more months and I'm graduating. I have sent all my college application forms, took 7 exams and am now waiting for results. I have just been denied at the De La Salle University, which is rather a big blow for me since I expected to pass. But, hey, one has to accept things at some point, right? I just need to focus on the premed track.

Anyone else on the same bandwagon?

Hope you all are okay. :) Ciao.

I haven't posted anything for a long time, not even on my journal.
But I've been so overwhelmed lately.. and I figured, what better place to come than here? Things have been so intense lately. I transfered out of public school and into an online school, it's easier in some aspects, but it requires so much more self-discipline (something I often lack.) I've been obsessively worrying about the future, college applications, with a million and one questions, and a thousand side-worries. I don't know where to begin or where to end. I am so scared that I'm not going to succeed at whatever I do, I don't want to mess anything up.. I really don't. I'm scared that I'll put things off for too long and then I'll wake up one morning and find that I've completely screwed up in some universally huge way. For the last couple of weeks I've actually worried myself into doing absolutely nothing. I paint, I collage, I draw, write, read, anything to avoid thinking about the future.. but somehow, it's become the only thing I can think of. And it's really beginning to scare me.

Question for all hs drivers... [01 Oct 2005|11:14pm]
_shrug
I have heard that insurance goes up crazy high for teenage drivers - however, I have also heard that that does not take place until you get your license, not when you get your permit.
So do you not have to be put under your family's insurance when you get your permit?
Or does it depend on the state/insurance?

Please help; I'm really confused.

p.s. If it helps, I live in NY.

Yeah so my junior year has been anything but relaxed. I have a lot more work to do than I did in previous years, but that doesn't really bother me. I am in four clubs and a DJ at the school radio station, but that doesn't really bother me. I have a boyfriend who has indulged in some gay habits, and that bothers me a little.

I feel really bad for my boyfriend because everyone thinks he is gay. He is a ballerina and I have always thought he was at least bi. That isn't what bothers me. During the second week of school one of our friends started flirting with my boyfriend and I thought it was cute. This was until they kissed at a party that we were at. I didn't find out about the kiss from them, though. My best girl friend told me a couple of days later. I wouldn't have been bothered if my boyfriend had told me. After that there were rumors going around that my boyfriend was going to come out and start dating our friend. Mind that all of this took place from the second week of school to about a week ago. I love this boy and it sucks. I am pretty sure that he is gay or something so I am trying not to fall too hard but that just isn't possible. If only y'all knew him, you would know how everyone falls in love with him. I've never been one to be involved with drama. I shy away from it. This boyfriend of mine comes with it and I doubt I will ever get a peaceful week with him. But it is totally worth it.

Sorry to bore y'all with relationship stuff, I just don't feel comfortable talking about it with my friends. I hope that y'all are doing well!

Love,
Margaret Rose

Adm. Essay for GMU. PLEASE CRITICIZE HARSHLY. [21 Sep 2005|05:43pm]

Most high school students don't even want to think on spring break, my friends included. So, when I announced that I planned on spending the last night of spring break of junior year at a public lecture on "The Arrogance of Power," they were less than thrilled at the prospect of going with me. I eventually convinced one of my friends to go with me, by arguing that if I was this enthused about hearing this lecture, it couldn't be all that bad, and either way, she might be able to get some extra credit out of it for history class. So we went to a public lecture on "Being an American in the Aftermath of 9/11" given at the newly christened University of Mary Washington. The lecture was open to the public, but I think that everyone in attendance except my mother, my friend, and myself were University students. It seems that the general public of rural Virginia isn't too interested in hearing what Ralph Nader has to say.
I idolize Ralph Nader. He's almost single-handedly responsible for auto saftey regulations, he founded one of the nation's leading civic groups (PIRG), and he's the only nationally-recognized political figure who is "Not for sale." Corporate interest controlling the government is a major problem in this country, and Ralph Nader is one of the few who realizes or cares about the extent of the problem. As soon as I realized that such an influential American citizen, my idol, was coming to Fredericksburg, Virginia, I knew I had to go. I listened to his lecture and took pages and pages of notes. After he was finished speaking, I got in the amazingly long line to meet him. I waited for what seemed like eons, even though I was close to the front. When my turn to talk to him finally came, I was shaking with excitement and awed at being in his prescence. I looked at him. And then, very calmly, I said, "Mr. Nader, would you please sign my books, as I idolize you?"
He obliged. I now have two books inside of which is written "To Monica, For Justice, Ralph Nader." I was giddy all the way home, and again once school started, because every high school teacher, no matter what their subject is, inevitably asks the same question: "Who did something interesting over spring break?" Seven times, once in each class, my hand shot into the air. When my teachers saw that I was about to explode with desire to share my spring break activities, they acknowledged me and allowed me to anwer the question. I had an excellent story to tell.

I just joined the community, and it doesn't look too active...but it seems like a cool place, and latley, I've found my thinking about high school, in general, alot. So here I am, ready to vent. :)

I'm a senior at a new high school. I left my old school because there was an incredible amount of drama, and I was really tired of it. So I'm at this new high school, about 20 minutes away. There first three weeks were awesome; the library is great (I'm a reading fiend) and I actually met a really nice guy. Well, as it turned out, this guy had a serious girlfriend, and she was extremely mad that her boyfriend and I were friends. Anyways, to make a really long story short, I ended up having to quit my job (where she worked) and a bunch of people (whom I don't even know) want to beat me up.

That's high school for ya. Drama everywhere. I can't wait till I graduate. People say the high school years are the best of your life...it makes me wonder about life AFTER high school.

Hello!
I'm a junior and I'm doing whatever it takes to graduate this year. The problem is, I really fucked up my freshman year, so I am a bit behind. I've been asking around and in order to catch up and maybe get ahead, they put me in a program called "Odyssey". Which brings me to my question...

Are any of you taking this program? If so, what do you think of it?

GPA help. [16 Aug 2005|03:53pm]

Hey.

I'm a senior in high school this year and my gpa is a 2.1. Is there any sort of hope to achieve a 2.5, or even a 3.0? If I cannot achieve that within this year, is there some other way to boost it once I graduate?

I want to go to AIPX, which requires a 2.5. If that's unattainable, I'll probably be relocating to AZ anyway (I'm in WI) and go to some community college out there.

I don't know what to do. My life is in complete shambles at this point. Heh.

Hello everyone. I'm a n00b here. I'm in high school and my senior year starts on August 8th. I hate school but I still take AP classes, am in a bunch of clubs, etc. But all I can say is that I'm counting down the days until it ends and I can move on with my life.
