Meaning of "Anastigmat" in the German dictionary

Anastigmat is an optical lens system which compensates for a previously notorious imaging error, the astigmatism. The correction of the astigmatism is achieved primarily by bringing the sagittal and the meridional screens together. This is not physically achievable with single cells. However, in order for an anastigmatic lens to be referred to as anastigmat, the image field curvature must also be eliminated. The first anastigmatic lens was the four-lens protar developed by Paul Rudolph in 1890 for Zeiss. The simplest Anastigmat is the Cooke triplet, which was developed a little later, from a convex, a concave and a further convex lens. On the Cooke Triplet, other important lenses, such as the four-lens Tessar type, are being built. Here, the rear lens has been replaced by a cemented lens combination. Objective lenses in the manner of a Gaussian double lens are also usually anastigmates. Originally it was strictly symmetrical, later also more complex, non-symmetrical designs. Die Korrektur des Astigmatismus wird in erster Linie dadurch erreicht, dass die sagittale und die meridionale Bildschale zur Deckung gebracht werden. Dies ist mit Einzellinsen physikalisch nicht erreichbar. Allerdings muss, damit ein anastigmatisches Objektiv auch als Anastigmat bezeichnet werden darf, auch die Bildfeldkrümmung eliminiert sein. Das erste anastigmatische Objektiv war das von Paul Rudolph 1890 für Zeiss entwickelte, vierlinsige Protar. Der einfachste Anastigmat ist das wenig später entwickelte Cooke-Triplet aus einer konvexen, einer konkaven und einer weiteren konvexen Linse. Auf dem Cooke-Triplet bauen weitere wichtige Objektive auf, beispielsweise vom vierlinsigen Tessar-Typ. Hier ist die Hinterlinse durch eine verkittete Linsenkombination ersetzt worden. Objektive nach Art eines Gaußschen Doppelobjektivs sind ebenfalls in der Regel Anastigmaten. Ursprünglich handelte es sich dabei um streng symmetrische, später auch um komplexere, nicht-symmetrische Designs.
