Viola da gamba

Viola da gamba

Viola da gamba is a collective name for a family of historical stringed instruments. It was created at the same time as the violin family. The term da gamba is derived from the game. In contrast to the viole da braccio, that is, "arm violins", the instruments of all vocal folds - treble, treble / tenor and bassgambe or violone - are held between the legs or the smaller types with the corpus are placed on the lap , With the neck protruding upwards. The gamba was probably made in the 15th century in Spain. They have five to six, later also seven strings in quarto-third tuning and a fret fretboard. The bow holds the player under attack. Until the 18th century, the gamba played their part in the music of numerous European countries, mainly in Italy and France, England and Germany, each with their own manifestations of scale and construction, as well as with various functions in solo, ensemble and general bass playing. Jahrhundert in Spanien.
