inert

Inert substance

Inerte Substanz

Chemically inert substances are substances which, under the given conditions, do not react or react only to a negligible extent with potential reaction partners. The term is often not used in the chemical literature. In the context of the reaction kinetics, inert is inversely inversely used, as in chemical thermodynamics is often distinguished between stable and unstable. The International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry, on the other hand, defines the term as stable and unreactive under given conditions. In a simplified example: If you cook vegetables in a pot, it is inert because it does not dissolve despite the cooking processes in the vegetable. The boiling water, ie, the reaction medium of the reaction, is also quasi-inert because it does not change by boiling. In the vegetable, however, changes occur during cooking, it is not inert under cooking conditions.
